Ringo's comment on the Paul/Bono performance at Live8

Tripping:
If Ringo didn't decide to be a no show and snub Live Aid, maybe he would have been shown some respect with Live 8.
For once I actually agree with you!

He was invited back then? You mean we missed the opportunity to hear a rousing rendition of Druming Is My Madness or Wrack My Brain?? Shucks...
Geldof invited both George and Ringo to join Paul on Let it Be.

and Paul hasnt been grumpy when asked for autographs? .......
Of course, but it isn`t his usual way of reacting.

July 12, 2005 -- Beatlefan Ringo not mad at Paul In response to U.K. media stories on the Internet about Ringo Starr declaring he'd never play with Paul McCartney again and complaining that Macca did not ask him to perform with him at Live 8, Beatlefan asked Ringo's spokeswoman, Elizabeth Freund, whether these stories were accurate and reflected Ringo's thinking. Here are some excerpts from her response (to be published in full in Beatlefan): "First and foremost he is NOT fuming and had no rancor in any of his comments, only his trademark wit. He said emphatically that he and Macca would not play together, the same way he used to be emphatic about he and Paul and George not playing together . . . They may occupy shared stage but will never 'play together' in the formal way in which these questions were meant. . . . I think it is needless to say he and Paul are close the way all the Beatles were. Any rancor or resentments that the media make up is just that -- made up." As for Live 8: "He (Ringo) was always supposed to be in the U.S. doing promo during the Live 8 shows. . . When he is asked about Live 8 he says simply he was not asked to do it and then goes to applaud Bob Geldof and the wonderful thing he has done with this show and cause."
-
Bit of damage limitation, there. "Wit" indeed! Oh, my aching sides!
-
Apparently, Ringo does not think before he rock 'n' rolls.
-
Ringo should have been asked. His inclusion would have set Live 8 on fire! What a missed opportunity.

Ringo has been accesable to causes large and small through the years. He filled in for deceased Beach Boy Drummer Dennis Wilson during the Beach Boy annual concert in Washington on Independance Day July 4th, Ringo added his voice to the Sun City boycott prior to reform in S. Africa, He should be inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for being a Beatle, a positive personality, and assembling rock performers in the All-Starr show that many would else never see perform. As for the Big 8 concert gig, he was already preparing the reminder to "Choose Love". et. al. AND he really is a very funny entertainer! ZURILLION

God, I'm so glad Paul didn't dress up in a Sgt. Pepper suit. He would've looked absolutely ridiculous, and it would've tarnished the Beatles legacy that everyone wants to protect. I love Paul, but sometimes he does goofy things that make me cringe. I'm so glad that he didn't do that at Live 8, in front of the entire world. I'm surprised that Ringo would be the one to say he wanted costumes. Or that, despite his other comments that he'll never tour with Paul again, he still was a bit miffed at not playing Live 8. Unless he's kidding about all of it. I personally wouldn't mind Paul and Ringo playing together, but most of all I just want them to be friends -- too many years and too many people have passed for them to harbor any more animosity.

Starr says he wasn't invited to play drums with McCartney for his Live 8 performance, and didn't really want to discuss whether he would have liked to. "Well, it's too late now. So let's not talk about the past. I was never asked to do it. I would have only done it, if I'd dressed up in me suit," he jokes. "That would have been a big condition on my part."
My god he must to be invited
Why ??? Ringo wasn't on the bill at the first Live Aid.
neither was Rob Thomas nor Green Day
-
Nor was Ringo on the bill for the concert for Kampacea, concert for NY, concert for monserott, so why the big deal on not being on the bill for this concert?
-
Dunno. Cause Ringo didn`t make a stink about the others? He wasn`t at the Concert for Linda either.

Personally, I feel sorry for the 4 "stupid" guys in Pepper suits who did a good job. I guess Ringo never saw the comments on this board about how "foolish" Paul would have looked in a Pepper suit. Maybe Paul did. Make your mind up, Ringo - do you want to perform with Paul or not?
i think he do.......... he was jealous........
-
You know I can understand why Ringo and George chose not to play with Paul at Live Aid. It was only four years from Johns death, I don't think it would have been the right time to do that. I don't think either of them would have ment it as a snub to Paul, Bob Geldof or the Live Aid cause. 20 years on I think that Ringo should have been asked. We don't know though...maybe U2 had some say in the matter also.

details, schmeetails.... we can all hope and assume that they're the kind of friends they are, or that we hope them to be, and like we hope that we are with our friends... (remember john's comment in the 'imagine' movie... "the wounds have all healed, etc...") ANYWAY, i forget who posted it, but i think the best post here is the suggestion of HOW COOL it would have been for ringo to come out at the conclusion of peppers' "billl-eeee-sheeeers" and do "with a little help from my friends" with paul and bono and edge and larry and adam and bob geldof and sting and phil collins and uhm.... joe perri... LOL ..... i think you know what i mean... instead of the focus on the negative.... accentuate the positive.... so... what gets your vote for what have been the coolest ???? yeah, ringo coming out to do 'with a little help from my friends'.... awesome vote....
-
i can almost hear ringo saying that! haha! but i wonder why doesnt ringo play with paul? that would be AMAZING!!
-
I agree with everyone here saying we love you Ringo and would have loved you in the show just as we still do even though you weren't. However, Ringo, since you went AA and demand that on your tours all the musicians not drink any alcohol or use any drugs for the whole tour, maybe you've painted yourself into a box where a lot of musicians who still drink or smoke pot don't want to ask you to be in the show because they think you will say no anyway due to the usage of inebriants.
-
Using that logic they shouldn't have asked Paul given that he's a vegetarian.
-
I would love to see Ringo play behind Paul again!!!! No offense to the drummer Paul uses but I would rather look at Ringo. They should get together and see what they come up with, I know it wouldnt be the same without Harrison & Lennon but these guys were buds at one time and lifes so short, who cares, I say go for it!
-
The guys with the Pepper suits looked a bit stupid to be honest, but Paul would have looked awfully ridiculous with a suit!!!
