the Power of Krishna

Thanks for that fancy album cover! And for this topic in general. To me, a little spirituality goes a long way. I don't think I could immerse myself in it full time in an ashram again. Or maybe I could, I surprise myself sometimes. I got more out of Julia Roberts' movie "Eat Pray Love" than I expected (the book held so much more). Her time in the ashram was moving. (BTW, she's a practicing Hindu in real life, her whole family.) I fancy the name "Vishnu" for God even more than "Krishna." They each please my ears, sound exotic. But "Vishnu" is the Ultimate in the Highest Heaven Vishnu's the "real deal" ! It was charming, enchanting, to hear that in an ashram in Miami

That?s funny you mention Eat Pray Love Susy, I just saw this clip of Kevin Nealon the other day, of him on Jimmy Kimmel talking about his experience seeing that movie. Very funny bit he does about the title
Btw, if any one is looking for a copy of the the Radha Krsna Temple album I mentioned, original UK vinyl release (1971 Apple Records), this place has it. Don?t all look up this page all at once now http://www.platterpus.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=Search.Specific If you want you can do an ?advanced search? and look up ?Apple? in the ?Label? field, and see some cool records they have. Of course I just picked them over, but remaining are Radha Krsna Temple, Modern Jazz Quartet (which I plan to buy if no one where steals it now!), a Yoko record. And they always get more in. stay tuned, just a matter of time before they get another James Taylor, Badfinger, Mary Hopkin or Billy Preston LP. Hi! My names Apple Dork Although I?ve sighted a couple examples in my posts here that may have somewhat been mocking the activities of Krishna followers, I think the ethos of that religion is top shelf. What is it, Hinduism? (am I an idiot right now?) I am a bit interested in other religions, Buddhism, etc, since our own (christian) are getting boring.. not feeling connected to it. I may be with Susy, Vishnu could be the real deal -
It's a popular branch of Hinduisim, a bit "Hinduism Lite" in some respects, if I may be so bold : George could have dug a little deeper in the well. Just (halfway) kidding...how do I know the nuances and various routes of his explorations and what all he was into. Maybe the Hari Krishnas are not more of the "pop" subculture of Indian Eastern Philosophy. There's certainly something about it which keeps them riveted and totally dedicated (some naysayers would call it "brainwashed"). I used to read about Vedanta Buddhism and ways it's similar to Hinduism (or is it Vedanta Hinduism?). Vedanta is regarded as the highest of the high and the deepest.

There was a two-part series in Look Magazine in 1968 about The Beatles in India. With pics and a well-written essay. It was before any of the cynicism came out later, and they genuinely believed in the Maharishi. The first of the two issues had them on the cover too, if I recall. They are very rare and collectible now. This may have been the basis for the book Susy is talking about. There is also a book by a Krishna devotee named Joshua M. Greene who was a friend of George for many years, from the time the Krishna's were invited to Apple in 1969 until George passed away. It is called Here Comes The Sun: The Spiritual and Musical Journey of George Harrison. The whole popularity of Yoga and Meditation in Western society today can be directly attributed to The Beatles and especially to George. But it should be remembered that it was his wife Patti who first became interested in Indian Spiritualism and introduced George to it, at the same time that he discovered the Sitar and Ravi Shankar. Great stuff! (Eat Pray Love is an awesome film!)

Great info, however, Jack Kerouac and J.D. Salinger incorporated Eastern Philosophy into their works pre-Beatles and kind of spread the word, at least to literary minded persons. In the same way you wouldn't have thought anyone knew about marijauna in pre-Sixties decades, but they did. Robert Mitchum for example got busted in the1940s for smoking "the devil weed." Huge scandal, and all he'd done was toke on a few jays with a small group of Hollywood friends. He was introduced to marihoochie during his teenage hobo box car riding days during the Depression. I believe Henry Miller, in some ways the father of the Beats, wrote some rapturous rants about Buddhism here and there in his books published in the 20's and 30's decades. His preceded Kerouac's and Salinger's. And Herman Hesse with "Siddhartha" etc. about the Buddha. J.D. Salinger's fiction startles and amazes with how contemporary sounding the dialogue is. The Fabs turned countless people on to Eastern thought--they probably did more to widely popularize these forms of spirituality in the West than the authors I cited, because of the "power of music."

YOu're right,Suzy. the Beatles pointed out that when they got involved with the Majarishi, it was something that everybody was doing and that they just got caught up in it too. In my explorations of Krishna, I used to go to the Rainbow Gatherings and eat and pray with a Krishna group called City of God. Most of the Krishna's I met through George fandom gasp with wide eyes and say to me, "But they're renegades!" It must be why I liked them.

Before the Beatle's, Yogananda came to the west and founded the Self-Realization Foundation in Los Angeles. In India, there are many religions that follow Hindi, but all believe in Krishna, their yogi/Avatar who wrote the "Bhagavad Gita". Yogananda's teachings guide us to find inner light, peace and divine bliss. These are the teachings of his guru Sri Yukteswar, Krishna, both these men believed in Christ Yeshua and exist in his 33rd plane of light. The power of Krishna or dharma is divine light when meditated each moment upon our innermost heart. Divine light is created when meditated each morning and evening. It is important to be within the divine presence often before experiencing the Christ light or Christ consciousness of the Krishna meditation. Chant: OM, Krishna, OM. Peace and divine love, Sri Joni Counselor, MA Ordained Spirit-directed Healer/Sri Ronji Sri Bhagavan Yogananda "The divine presence is the only light upon our innermost heart." We have found the inner light of our highest intention when we walk with Creator near. I studied Yogananda during my ordination training with Sri Ronji--we are divinely guided to use , "Man's Eternal Quest" by Yogananda when finding meditations for others. Sri Yukteswar. 03/21/11.

Lovely and well said. Yogananda, and his guru Sri Yukteswar, and his guru Lahiri Mahasaya are the three gurus George Harrison chose to be on the cover of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Autobiography of a Yogi is one of the world's great works of literature.

What is this song Tijuana Taxe you speak of KO? Who is it by, and on what album? Something to check out you say? I?m also finding GH has 1 or 2 songs on each album that are really good Gone Troppo has some pretty cool stuff on it I think, though I?ve only heard it maybe 2-3 times. I Really Love You just caught my ear because of the crazy sounding oddball harmony line as the main melody!! I mean seriously, that?s cool sounding I?m convinced George had such a gift for like dry comedy. It shows in some of his best work I think. Really wits lyrics, and witty music.
