The celebrity "comeback" thread

Glad you enjoyed that, Suze! I like the way you phrased that: "He's sexy without even trying"...very good! : It's true, kinda like "something in the way he moves" ....ever so laid back and he does this sexy half-smile that I absolutely adore. I think I fancy him like you fancy Macca! He's a bit older now tho' I wonder if I'd feel that same if I saw him now??? So yeah, Mary Hopkins was good singer, and then "poof" she was gone. Crystal Gale ... good aswell...I remember singing her tune "Don't it Make my brown eyes blue", in the group I was in. Some other faves of mine that I have gone clean out of sight than I can think of at the moment are: Boz Skaggs, really enjoyed his singing style, and how bout' Sade'...she's was a big fave of mine ...come to think of it, I think she has a new album coming out now. Here's another old fave of mine that hasn't been around for years and I thought was quite a talented fellow. TODD RUNDGRIN - Hello, It's Me

I am very late to this thread but have to agree with Dana Carvey. Definitely an under rated comedian, IMHO.

Completely agree! Also, I don't think it's ever too late to join a thread. If anything, it means less people are involved it to counter your views!

Saw Rosanne Barr and Richard Lewis in a "Snickers" commercial together, reminded me both of these cats are really funny as hell...where have they been? Nobody can kvetch and complain like Richard Lewis, he always talks like his life is a living hell and goes on and on...so funny, and Rosanne can be just hilarious

Thanks, Claudia. I couldn't get that one to come in, but saw some on the side, of Richard Lewis. Still funny. He used to wear only black all the time. He usually looks like he has a migraine headache!

All very true. One quick comment about "Snickers" commercials: before Betty White was on the super bowl 'snickers' commercials she had been pretty much forgotten. Afterwords though, she had a major comeback that involved a facebook-pushed hosting of SNL, the winning of a prime-time Emmy award, a starring role on a hit show, and a return to film. She is also scheduled to be releasing a few books any time now. She is the perfect example of someone who should have had a comeback-- and did!!! Maybe 'Snickers' has the magic touch?

Oh, and for those of you who like One-hit-wonders and 80's to early 90's hard rock-like music, a great band that ended prematurely (after only one album!) was the 4 non blondes. They started in 1989, released a hit album ("Bigger, better, faster, more!") and single ("What's up") in 1993, made about four music video's, wrote the song "Mary's house" for the hit film "Wayne's World 2", and toured the US and Europe before they broke up in 1995. Before they broke up they were making a second album but it was never released. The lead singer of the band (Linda Perry) went on to write and produce for musicians like Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Pink, Courtney Love and Kelly Osbourne. It seems that they're style is an acquired taste, but, for those interested here is a list of some of they're songs: -What's up (
) -Train ( ) -Calling All the People ( ) -Dear Mr. President ( ) -No Place Like Home ( ) And here are a couple of unreleased songs of theirs (presumably for what would have been they're 2nd album): -In My Dreams ( ) -Mighty Lady ( ) Usually I'm not interested in this kind of music but I always loved the song "What's up" and that lead to my interest in the rest of their music. The farthest I'll usually go into hard rock would be listening to whatever 'hard rock-like' songs Paul might have done with the Beatles and Wings, or, occasionally, Queen. I posted this to see if anyone was interested, remembered them, or wanted them to have a comeback. -
Yeppers I remember "4 Non-Blondes"-- not bad. They sounded different and quirky. The Come back kid: let it be James Franco, who apparently is a little bit in the dog house after his Oscars hosting stint...he's adorable... Jack White after disbanding the White Stripes (not that he needs a comeback, probably, he's so talented on his own. doubtless, too). He might be a good 'un to help produce a Macca cd. I loved his renditions of "Mother Nature's Son" and "That Would Be Something" at the White House gala for Paul

'Quirky and different'-- yes, very true!

Original !! That goes for Jack White (of the former White Stripes) songs, too. Very original. Different. Unique

Here's a small sample of Dana doing his "Paul" impression (although it's not the full performance I'm looking for)
Watched this, laughed a LOT & my little girl hopped up in her cot, shouted 'uppy' (pick me up!!), grabbed something 'invisible' & fell asleep again ... f*ck ... I'm ROARING laughing now!!!!!!!!!!!! Wonder if she saw that 'huge lizard' Dana was talking about!!! xxx

I recently saw a few updates on a couple of artists mentioned here before and thought it was a good opportunity to dust-off this old thread, bring it back from the dead, and give it a comeback of its own... Here are the updates: 1. Apparently Dana Carve is a contender for being the potential replacement of Regis Philbin (who retired last November after almost 30 years) on "LIVE!." He's already co-hosted the show a few times and seems to be popular with audiences. If he lands this job, that would be a massive comeback! He's also been making his rounds on "Conan," "David Letterman," and "the Tonight Show." Here's a link to footage of him co-hosting "LIVE!"
Here's their Australian interview from the studio: I have to say, Boy George has really let himself go since the '80s... -
Can Boy George still really sing, though, apparently he can (?) but he seems so 80's From what I've seen, that Nicki Minaji person is very over rated! Can't stand what I've heard from Kanye West. Don't like most of what I've heard from the Black Eyed Peas Eminen's voice makes me cringe Carrie Underwood's singing on some of hers reminds me of the proverbial chinese water torture or cats fighting or the chalkboard thingie, I both shudder and cringe Miranda Lambert's can get like that too.

In my opinion, he still has a very powerful and soulful singing voice (better than most contemporary musicians), but it isn't what it was 30 years ago... Then again, who's is? In the end of the day, if they released a new album, I'd buy it. I bought their 1999 reunion album (called Don't mind if I do) and I find it very underrated. Although it had a top 10 single and another top 25 single, the album itself was a flop having only made it to 64 and never being released outside of Europe and Japan. The good news is that this reunion seems more structured (they even brought back their original producer to work on the project).

Thought this thread warranted a brief return to reflect on the fact that Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Culture Club, and The Who are all releasing new material over the next few months... In most cases, it's their first fresh releases in several years. Exciting stuff!

I just heard Prince has two top albums out right now! (in different genres)

The Who has just announced a big 50th Anniversary North American tour for 2015. I'd love to see Bowie tour again!
