Got another "useless" "What's that you're doing" newsletter today with of course ZERO info about the new album. I do miss the good old days of "Beatles Magazine" !

John Mackintosh:
Going to the grocery store awhile ago, listening to you know who, and had the following idea: Put out a double album this fall, the first CD being the long awaited, much anticipated new studio recording. The second one various live tracks from Out There that he has either never done live before this tour either away from the Beatles or at all (Eight Days A Week, All Together Now, Mother Should Know, Lovely Rita) or kept on the shelf for quite some time (Another Day, Listen to What the Man Said, Hi Hi Hi). Plus toss in My Valentine and Mull of Kintyre since a live version of that has never appeared on an album before (one did come out on the All My Trials CD single in early 90s) Put in 1985 and in Ob-La De Ob- a Da as those hit the stage after the 2009 live New York album. Heck, let's add Come and Get It from those European dates a few years ago, those of us in the States missed that live. Then, there we have it, Paul In There (studio) and Out There (the road). Make that the title... IN THERE AND OUT THERE P.S...Something like this was the original idea for Red Rose Speedway, one studio LP, one live and as you all know we only got the first LP.
Great idea (and title) John!

I don't think a double album is a good idea in any shape or form, a really strong single album is what i want. Looking at Paul's track record over the years only about 12 of the songs would be of strong quality of the 50 plus songs. If Tug Of War had been a double album it would have been poor, stripped of the crappy Pipes Of Peace songs it's much stronger, so a single album is preferable.

Fifty new songs??!!! Scuttle that live album idea and bring on a double album of new material!!!!

That's what I'm saying John!!!!!!! Rumor has it that the next fireman album is also halfway finished but the two together is a far cry from 50 songs....if not a double album, how about doing like Springsteen once did...release two single, different albums on the same day!

While a bunch of us would love that, it would be commercial suicide. McCartney at this stage of his career has enough problems selling one record, can't imagine two.

Got to agree with you here. I hate to though. I wish all McCartney albums sold 2 million out of the gate in the US alone.

I'm with you. Give me a single album of the best new stuff. Preferably with a producer who's willing to be a tough editor helping select the material.

Absolutely, yes. There are ways to get other tracks out there on singles and as downloads, as long as they don't make us buy the whole album again for one bonus track! Someday, I think there will be some kind of boxed set of unreleased material; even with the current reissue series, the lid is way too tight on that stuff.

Actually, I like what Green Day did, release one a month for 3 consecutive months.

Does anyone know the details re: re-recording vocals because Paul wasn't happy with them? I wonder if this has been the reason for the long wait between new albums, or is it just that he's been busy with other stuff and felt there was no urgency to get a new album out? If he's recorded more than 50 new songs. it begs the question, Why not release an album of new material much earlier? I can't recall an album coming with so little news leaking. Hopefully that is a good thing and he'll pleasantly surprise us all!

Who knows but i'm sure that could be the main reason for this delay. it has been mentioned a few times he was unhappy with his vocals & lets face it the last few years they have been ropey.

AND it's also been mentioned that he had vocal surgery so maybe he was waiting for that.
