Paul's New Album-- "New"-- CONFIRMED

Michelley:
Love the New cover art myself. It's like an optical illusion. It looks sharp. Certainly better than a chair. Today's update on Amazon UK, Paul's album is No. 7. Yay! http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Deluxe-Paul-McCartney/dp/B00EUS9JF0/ref=zg_bs_music_7 And in the US it's No. 32. Course it's been available for pre-order longer in the US.
Yay! OK, I won't mention iTunes anymore until there's good news, which I'm sure there will be. I agree about the cover: better than a chair!

Looks similar to the font that James used on his album...

LOVE LOVE LOVE the new single-cant wait for the album!
-
I can't wait either! The downside for me, though, is that my partner will be away on business when the album comes out. We actually met because of Paul McCartney, fourteen years ago! I had just been shopping at a store where I found that rare British pressing of the "Press To Play" LP (with the different mix of "Press"), and when a mutual friend casually introduced us, we immediately starting bonding over McCartney B-sides like "Daytime Nightime Suffering" and so on. So we were more excited than most when "Run Devil Run" came out, and "What It Is" kind of became our song, and we watched that web concert and everything; and since then, each McCartney release has been a major event for us. (I'm more of a "Chaos" guy; he's more MAF.) This "New" timing is a bit of a challenge. But we'll work something out somehow!
-
I can't wait...SO MUCH SO I'm going to buy it the day it comes out and listen to it fresh ...NO LITTLE Bits of songs like the PAST...just like the days of new albums when you ONLY had a single to go by...Even taking Time off of work.. I want to listen to it ALL ALONE And just take it in
-
At present "New" is #33 on Amazon.com U.S. Meanwhile, a question (and sorry if this has been asked before): Is Paul's site going to do a pre-order OTHER than through iTunes? I'm only interested in a physical CD, not downloads. On principle I try to avoid Amazon.com. I prefer to go to the SF branch of Amoeba and buy the thing from a real record store (you've now deduced my age, I presume), but on a weekday that's something of a pain logistically. So I'd be tempted to order it from Paul's site if that's going to be an option.

199 Thumbs Down votes on YouTube. What's going on?? This is not a good development.

I can't see how that matters at all. Who cares? It's got more than 12,000 likes and more than 833,000 views. Why worry about the trolls?

Rather enigmatic non-mushy lyrics for a "love song" ("New")--"don't look at me" that phrase gets repeated several times...what does he mean by that? These lyrics seem kind of dashed off. Not worked on much. So it must boast a really outstanding melody. I can't access vids for some reason since getting my p.c. ISP account back, so I haven't been able to hear the "New" song Got to figure out how to get music vids again. I'm so bloody curious to hear this

He has described "don't look at me" in this song as sort of "I don't have an explanation for why things are working out so well right now." (Your problem with videos could have something to do with your Adobe Flash Player settings, but I'm not really knowledgeable on PC troubleshooting.)

Thanks. I suppose the "New" song lyrics can be regarded as sort of elegant and sophisticated in their rather mysterious phrasing and sparseness. Similar to "My Valentine" which struck me as too sparse and plain at first, both its lyrics and music to it and required many listenings to fully "get" it, and it sounded too sad to me for a love song. And too "bare bones." I didn't like it all that much and preferred "Two Hearts." I gather the music to the "New" song borders on the fancy embellished art rock style like "English Tea" and "Mr. Bellamy" perhaps which sound "English-y" to me, and I fancy that fancy side of his magical musical conjurings It's really nice to the ears at times

Paul doing Timberlake dance moves.....now that would be very uncomfortable to watch!!!!
Paul in his 20's doing JT dance moves would be uncomfortable to watch, let alone in his 70's!
About as uncomfortable as watching Timberlake trying to play a musical instrument "live" by himself in front of 40,000 people. Paul is a "real" musician and not a dancer. JT is the new Michael Jackson. He is a decent singer and great dancer but not in the same league as Paul as a composer and musician.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the new single-cant wait for the album!
I really like it too. I did a little experiment, however, prompted when I requested a radio station play "New," and having them tell me...maybe, but that it didn't necessarily fit in with their current playlist. It's an Adult Contemporary Music Station, so I thought, "Why not?" I know the station plays Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake, so I decided to (on my iPod) insert "New" in between "Locked Out of Heaven" by Bruno Mars and "Mirrors" by Justin Timberlake and hear for myself. Both of those songs sound great on the radio! Lots of punch and energy! Uh, "New" sounded a bit lifeless; lacked energy when played with those two songs. Needed to be punched up. It has a great melody. I have to look to the producer, Mark Ronson, for this. He is a DJ, so he knows how a song should sound when played with other songs. He needed to inject the sturdy and catchy beat of "New" with more punch; make it a bit louder. I'm not saying Paul is in direct competition with Mars and Timberlake, but if he wants airplay, he has to have a song that fits with others being played on the radio....even on Adult Contemporary stations. Based on my experiment, "New" did not have that sound. I moved it elsewhere on my iPod, where it fits better. I still love it....but.... : :

OOh, I just heard NEW for the first time and I love it!! Really catchy and Beatelesque! By George, Sir Paul has done it again!! He has a hit on his hands me thinks!

I did your experiment by playing the three songs on youtube. Yes, JT and Bruno Mars songs are more upbeat/louder but I still think "New" is catchy and would be just fine on adult contemporary radio playlist. I think you got the anwser you did from radio station is they believe McCartney is yesterday's news.

I don't think JT is even in the same league as Michael Jackson. No real style of his own, although he has catchy tunes here and there. I don't really have a desire to see JT and Paul on the same stage together; I kind of hope that doesn't happen.

Do you have iTunes on your PC? You can at least listen to a bit of the song through the iTunes store. What about on Paul's website? You can't listen to it there either?

It is a fact that AC radio -- which used to be home mainly to the likes of James Taylor, Elton John and Carole King -- has now been largely taken over by material punctuated by pulsing, staccato beats that have migrated over from dance music and hip-hop. And yeah, "New" does not sound like that stuff. But part of why the reaction to it has been so positive is its Beatles-like sound, which would have been totally ruined by remolding it to fit in with the Bruno Mars/Timberlake/Maroon 5 sound. Elton John's current single faces the same problem. It doesn't sound like most of the stuff radio in any format is playing heavily. That said, plenty of AC stations are playing "New" along with Timberlake, etc. For example, this link http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=255601 will take you to the playlist of KQXT-FM in San Antonio, which is heavily playing Bruno Mars, etc., but where "New" is the 7th most-played tune and rising as of Sept. 8. The fact that it's picking up spins on a lot of these stations suggests it's getting a positive response, so do not despair. Interestingly, there's a different but parallel situation happening on Triple A format stations. I've lately been listening a lot to my local Triple A, KFOG-FM in San Francisco, hoping to catch "New" (per the playlists posted on their website, they seem to be spinning it about once a day, and I haven't caught it yet). Most of the material on these stations lately seems to be rather dark and brooding -- lots of minor chords and angst-ridden vocals. Again, "New" just sounds totally different. But I would no more have Paul imitate Imagine Dragons than I'd have him imitate Justin Timberlake. We love Paul because he's not them.

Driving home last night from work, listening to my 22-year old daughter's favorite progressive station and boom! NEW exploded out of the speakers; it reminded me at once of the first time I heard Listen To What The Man Said. NEW sounded just great on the ole' radio and it transported me to a time when Wings dominated the 70's.
