Today's the day! I'm really wrestling with whether to spend the cash on these...I literally just got my hands on an upgraded 13CD set of all of their BBC sessions so I don't *need* these, but still, I'm a completist...decisions decisions...

Yeah, I read that they really rock hard and are one tight band. One hears Paul's bass on songs that Martin couldn't/wouldn't put on the studio versions 'cause they were afraid the needle would jump off the vinyl. One sort of possible potential downer: I read an online review of the new volume in the Philadelphia Enquirer that...praises the music...but kind of bemoans the fact that they used 32 precious minutes that could have been filled with even more music, which exists in the archives, with interviews of each Beatle; something that might be of interest for a listen or two, but then not so much. One wants that time filled with music! I would probably agree with that...even though I haven't heard the new volume.

If I told you, I'd have to kill you. In all seriousness, probably not a discussion to have in public on here... I'm still wrestling whether or not to grab these releases on the way home tonight...

Mine has been shipped from Amazon!
-
Got it today, It's pretty good---but yes, I'd rather have more songs or outtakes than interviews.
-
Mine arrived from Amazon today! Can't wait to listen to it.
-
Listened to mine now. Many moons ago as a supplement BBC radio broadcast two Bank Holiday specials al a Beatles At The BBC with more of the same outtakes from old Beatles Radio shows. The banter clips on this CD release were featured on those radio broadcasts. For example: George should change his name to Gorgeous... For me a bonus as those off-air tapes have long become unavailable to me with the demise of my last tape cassette player. Martin

Gotcha!!! I understand. Could you, perhaps, just list some songs that are on the 13 CDs you have that are of good sound quality and could have been on the official releases, but, for whatever reason, were not? :
-
I sure can, not now though (I'm at work!). I'll try to do that maybe this weekend

Quick question - and sorry if it's kinda obvious, but I've been bogged down with work...Is the version of the Live at the BBC that I bought a number of years ago the same as what is now known as 'volume 1' and would the full 4 CD set I see advertised (as one of the options I see aside from volume 1 and volume 2) just both volumes consolidated into one unit to be purchased? If so, I'll just pick up volume 2

When ordered, for example, at the same time from Amazon, they come packaged as a unit...both volumes packaged in one box case. Pretty neat, actually. Or they can be bought separately. While Volume 1 is the same one from '94, in that it contains the same songs in the same sequence, in some instances they used different....what they considered to be better....versions of the songs than the ones George Martin did in '94. They just didn't remaster his BBC tape for the new album. They listened to all the songs again on the original BBC tapes, choosing the songs, and remastered those from the original tapes, not Martin's. So, in that sense, Volume 1 isn't the same.

Love the BBC stuff - all of it However, why does volume two have lots more versions of songs already released on volume 1, when I believe there is STILL unreleased BBC stuff Added to that - "Lend me your comb " - which was on Anthology 1 , and "I'll Follow the sun" which was on the 1994 "Baby It's You" single ,hardly constitutes being "previously unreleased" AND,if as a previous post stated , the "new" volume 1 actually has different recordings in some cases to its 1994 counterpart, that surely makes it more like a sort of "volume 3" really ? Apart from two different bits of chat in the the vol 1 remaster, I hadn't read anywhwere else that the actual song recordings were different...

The BBC has once again broadcast a supplementary radio programme to coincide with this release: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b03h4226/Beatles_at_the_BBC/ Broadcast on BBC Radio 2, 10:00PM Thu, 14 Nov 2013 Available until 11:02PM Thu, 21 Nov 2013 First broadcast BBC Radio 2, 10:00PM Thu, 14 Nov 2013 This time presented by Ken Bruce - it used to be Alan Freeman. That stream should be available internationally being just radio.. An hour long - don't know if any of it is unique release. Martin

Based on what producer Howlett said...in an interview/review I read of the new albums in Beatlefan magazine...I made the comment in a previous post about different versions being on volume 1. I took another look at just what he said, and it was: "...But it's been almost 20 years since that set (Martin's) was put together and not only have we found many, many better quality versions of those songs, but the technology used to put the albums together has vastly improved. So keen listeners will notice a few more bits of dialogue here and there, and clean starts and better versions of some songs on "Volume 1" like "Things We said Today." Based on that, which doesn't provide much detail, I made the comment about different versions on Volume 1. Haven't read the liner notes in the new Volume 1 yet. I had thought more details on just how it differed from the one in 1994 would be provided, including when different versions of songs were used. Guess that isn't the case.
