Beatles US albums to be released in January
-
I never ordered the Mono Box in 2009 so I felt like I could justify buying this box so I could at least have the Mono versions of most every song through Revolver. (Plus, the packaging is nice. Also, when I first started buying Beatle albums as a kid, both the British and American versions were still available. I bought a number of American albums because I didn't know what I was doing. So there is SOME nostalgia for me.) I notice some differences so far, but I can't tell if that's because the songs are in Mono or if it is due to the songs being "Americanized". However, the Help soundtrack sounds very different to me. The song "Help" has the James Bond opening, and the rest of it almost sounds like a different version all together, at least in terms of the vocals. Does anyone know why this is? Is this the Mono version or the "American" mono version? Also, now that I've come this far, I now feel like I need to complete my Beatles set with the Mono Box at this point. I mean, what the hell?

Thanks for posting that link. That's great news. Hopefully, they reissue Yesterday and Today with the Butcher Cover.
That would be awesome! I'm totally getting this! As far as Beatle Lp's I own zero US versions, I've totally been a UK version snob to this point in my collecting, but this will knock out the US all in one shot! Love it. And I've always wanted that Hey Jude record.
Yesterday and Today has the "butcher cover" but when you first see it packaged it is still covered with the "steamer trunk" cover. But it isn't stuck on, it is a loose sticker and when you take it out of the cover slip, voila! Butcher cover! They are all packaged like Japanese mini-LP's too, with obi strips and nice sleeves for each CD. I only got the one so far, to pick up Y&T on release day, but it's a fair job Capitol/UMG did of this.
Is this only available in CDs or can you get it in vinyl? Cool about the sticker cover on Y&T!

Think on the Help! Soundtrack I find it interesting hearing instrumental scores from the film. Same with A Hard Day's Night I like the Instrumental verso a of songs

so from what i heard so far from the ones i got they sound correct like the us versions i should have known better (instrumental) has a longer ending in the mono version and i ill cry instead as the extra verse in mono like it should have and day tripper in stereo has the little glitch after "tried to please" like it should have vs the uk 2009 version doesnt have so i dont know but i dont know far as the other albums go though
Well, it's going to be a mixture of US and UK throughout the box, but I don't know exactly where they draw the line. I just listened to a few iTunes samples from Beatles '65 and the mono versions of "I Feel Fine" and "She's A Woman" have the echoey US mixes, but the stereo versions are clearly the "cleaner" UK mixes; however, "I'll Be Back" and "Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby" sound like the echoey US mixes all the way. The Examiner.com article did say that at times they used the US versions as a guide for edits and mixes, but re-created them using the UK masters, so it will take someone sharper than me to figure out what's real or not in all of this, since I'm not planning on getting the box.
oh wow thanx for the info on beatles 65.i was wondering when somebody was gonna post about that one its kinda sad how they did it makes the capitol years still worth while
Sorry, correction on "I'll Be Back" and "Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby": they're not the US mixes, but 2009 UK in both mono and stereo (I was trying to hear on the iPad, and had to confirm on the computer). But yes, the stereo "I Feel Fine" and "She's A Woman" have indeed used the UK mixes, while the mono use the correct US. Reading some Amazon reviews, and people mention that in some cases they actually used the 1987(!) mixes of some of the stereo tracks, particularly on most tracks from 1965. A few people mention that the three Revolver tracks on Y&T are the 2009 UK mixes, and A Hard Day's Night reportedly also uses the 2009 UK for the Beatles tracks, since United Artists used fake stereo for all the stereo tracks at the time?although this set does indeed retain the extra verse for "I'll Cry Instead" in mono. At least six tracks on Second Album use the 2009 UK stereo, and... you get the idea, I guess. For someone who wants to hear "better" versions of all the songs, using the track sequence from the U.S. albums, then I'm sure this is great, but if you've already got the 2009 stereo and mono boxes, as well as the Capitol Years boxes, there really is no need to get this, except perhaps for the packaging, a few random true US mixes, plus The Beatles' Story and the Hard Day's Night instrumentals.

Exactly!!! The only way they could have "better" versions of the songs for a "better listening experience" would have been to give everything the "Yellow Submarine Songtrack" and "LOVE" treatments. Otherwise, we already have the "better" versions of all these songs. This set, essentially, demonstrates how Capitol plundered and butchered the Beatles catalog to create as many albums as possible in the shortest period of time. (They actually named one "The Beatles Second Album"!!! Seriously??? )The little booklet included in the box set describes/explains all this rather well for those unfamiliar with how the Beatles were treated by Capitol. I think most of us on this forum already knew all that, so to do what they did with the box set was "overkill". Maybe only the booklet would have been of interest and could have served as a guide as to how to recreate the American albums with the different song sequences. (Unless one just wants the different sleeves they all came in, such as the Butcher cover.) I foolishly thought a MAJOR reason for coming up with this box set was to show HOW DIFFERENT each song sounded....in the American albums. This box set may, as you have indicated, show a few examples of that here and there, but I doubt I have the patience to go looking for them. (I wonder.....could/would Capitol come up with 'The Capitol Albums, Volume 3' to ACTUALLY INCLUDE ALL those different song mixes as it did in the first two volumes? I would be interested in that, but not in this box set. For me, it was a total waste of $$$$.) ops: :

I've only listened to Meet The Beatles so far and it sounds great. From what I've read the American mixes have been recreated for these records. It not just the 2009 remasters repackaged with US covers Nice to have an official copy of the Butcher Cover and I didn't have to sell my first born for it *

If that were only true!!! They didn't recreate the American mixes. "Meet The Beatles" may sound great, but it is NOT the American version of that album that it purports to be...sound wise. Nothing like it. It's the 2009 remasters.....

While I "understand" where you're coming from, methinks you do protest too much. You might even have to change your screen name! It is the packaging and the sequencing that matters to me. I couldn't give a flying fuck as to mono/stereo/UK/US/remaster, etc. as long as they don't suddenly start singing in Mandarin Chinese or Russian!

Uh-oh, better brace yourself for "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand"! Yes, certainly this kind of thing matters to some of us and not to others. I think we just want the info out there for those of us that DO care. For me, I won't be buying this for the same reason I didn't buy the remastered "1" and "1962-1966" and "1967-1970"?just seems unnecessary. If I happened to find this box used for $50 or something, that might be worth it for me, for the packaging, etc. I have no doubt that this box sounds great, and it may well have been Paul and Ringo (and Yoko and Olivia) who had the final decision NOT to put out "inferior" mixes that they thought would reflect poorly on the Beatles. Such is life!

i noticed on AHDN,that ill cry instead is in mono twice on there with the extended version one is where its supposed to be and the other one is where the stereo one should be is this a error or just bad planing?

I BOUGHT MY BOX SET OF THE U.S. BEATLES ALBUMS! WHO BOUGHT THEIR OWN?! WHO LOVES IT - YEAH, YEAH, YEAH?! WHO'S PLAYING THEM, LOUDLY?! WHO HAS CHANGE FOR A $20?!

I read that somewhere else too. Not sure why it happened.

Another shocking thing about this box set, none of the music publishing credits were published in the booklet, albums, iTunes file, etc.

The new box set is a total fraud!!! These are NOT the Capitol albums released in the 60s, not even close. (I have the Capitol Albums Volumes 1 & 2 CDs, which ARE the Capitol albums with the unique mixes.) The ones in the new box are essentially only the 2009 versions repackaged. I was fool enough to buy the entire new box set from Amazon....$183.00, including tax...for what amounts to new sleeves and song sequencing. What a massive fraud!!! Shame on Capitol. Shame on Apple. Shame on The Beatles.
Thank you for posting this, you just reaffirmed my decision not to purchase this. I have all the original vinyl, the Blue & Red sets, the Capitol Years, Beatles 1 and the UK albums boxed set...so I'm good.

Amazon has it for $169.98 and The Beatles Shop for $165.00. Oh, I guess your sales tax must be higher than mine, because would only be $180.18 at Amazon (and free shipping)

Apart from the 'dexterized' versions with reverb added, fake stereo constructions and what have you, there are also 'real' differences here and there. An extra verse in Run for your life, a false start in I'm looking through you, extra Lennon vocals and harmonies in The Word and perhaps others as well. Can some good soul tell us if they included those differences? The abovementioned are all on (the stereo version of) Rubber Soul, so perhaps I'll pick just that one and The Beatles Story. With the 2009 mono and stereo boxes I'm fine otherwise.
