Who has been a Beatles fan for 50 years?
-
Third Sunday of February will mark 50 years I have been a Beatles fan. Who else has a 50 year reunion coming up?
-
*raises hand* Me!! (but I was a fan from the end of Dec. 1963 when I first heard I Want To Hold Your Hand and then saw pics of them!!!) Why did you say "third Sunday?" Weren't you a fan the 2nd Sunday in that Feb (the 9th)?
-
I was already listening to the Beatles before they appeared on Ed Sullivan. That was the night I looked in to Paul's eyes and fell in love though! I was 12 at the time and I still love him.

Yes, 50 years. I got Meet The Beatles in 1964 when I was 7. Had collections of the original U.S. albums on vinyl in the 60's, English and Japanese vinyl imports in the 70's, the original CD's in '87, the CD remasters in 2009, and vinyl remasters in 2012, and full circle to the U.S. albums on CD in 2014...Wonder what's next?

I have to quit speed reading. I thought you said I got to meet the Beatles when I was 7... anyways...yes count me in too!

Me, too! I actually watched that night determined to hate them. ( I'm one of those contrary people, I guess: if everyone is raving over something, telling me I have to like it, my inclination is to go the opposite way!) I hadn't even heard them, yet, at least not that I was aware of. Well, needless to say, they worked their magic on me: at the end of the show, I sat there and just kept saying, :"Did you see the one on the left? Did you see the one on the left?"

Approx 36 years since I first heard Paul McCartney/Wings London Town album (actually the single With A Little Luck first, with the album as a whole a few weeks later) and hence the seeds were planted to Beatle fandom:-)

I missed the first two, so maybe it was the fourth Sunday for me. I saw the first two in the reruns that summer.

I'm 52, and have been a fan since they toured here in 1964 and I was in nappies/diapers.

This is so cool hearing everyone's stories about the first time we saw The Beatles
-
Me, me, me!!!!!!!! The first time I saw them was on the news in the fall of 1963. By the time the Ed Sullivan show rolled around, my friends and I had nearly worn out Meet the Beatles. I was 17.

OMG, that's too bad! Man, I was glued to the set all 3 Sundays!! I was already in love with Paul (I was 8, nearly 9) and seeing him live, singing, playing that Hofner...well, I think I hit puberty early on Feb. 9, 1964. ops:

ME! December 1963, at age 12, I saw a picture of the Beatles in a teen magazine, immediately fell in love with Paul. Bought Meet the Beatles as soon as it came out with my babysitting money and was glued to the TV set in Feb. 1964 when they were on the Ed Sullivan show. And, as they say, the rest is history.

I was in the womb for the event, but the vibrations must have reached me somehow! It was 1975 when I first started listening to my older siblings' hand-me-down singles from the sixties, and "Hey Jude" had a big impact right from the beginning. They weren't so much into the early stuff (though "Meet The Beatles!" was in the house), so I felt like all of that was my personal discovery. By the end of '76 I was completely smitten and buying the albums for myself.
