Do You Have A "Go To" Beatles Album?
-
Let's say you're home alone with no distractions, just chillin'. You grab a nice beverage of your choice, put your feet up, and you are holding the remote contol to your home entertainment system (if you don't have one, just pretend you do). You have every Beatles album (English & US) at your fingertips. Which album do you put on?
-
I think it depends: If I want early Beatles, then A Hard Days Night. All Lennon & McCartney originals. If I want later Beatles, then Abbey Road. Turn up side two and go for the ride.
-
If I had to pick one it would be Revolver. (the UK version)

I'm with both of you "guys" I guess. If I wanted to hear earlier Beatles then Revolver would be my choice too although I have REALLY taken a liking to the song "What You're Doing" so I might throw on Beatles VI (yes, I know it's not a real album ) to hear that song. There are some other good songs on the album as well. God, I love the Paul/John harmonies! Later Beatles would be Abbey Road. I may even start with my favorite Beatles song that just moves me--You Never Give Me Your Money. The album side from this song on is pure magic.

Revolver is not what I'd call "earlier" Beatles. That would be anything 1963-1965. Later Beatles is 1966-1969. Beatles VI is most certainly a real album--in the U.S. that is! We never knew any different! (we were oblivious to the fact that the albums were being released differently in the U.K.) Isn't Yes It Is on Beatles VI? I love that 3 part harmony!!

For some reason I think of "earlier" Beatles as before Sgt. Pepper, but you're right in that Revolver was also a radical departure from the earlier type songs prior to it. So it occupies an interesting niche at least in my mind. I love it and it was the first real Beatles album I bought after the red & blue albums! I rember when "Got To Get You Into My Life" became a hit in the mid 70s and it sounded so fresh 10 years after it was originally released! Still sounds pretty fresh even now which is amazing!! Beatles VI has "What You're Doing", "Yes It Is", "Tell Me What You See" (another great Paul song), "Every Little Thing" and of course "Eight Days A Week". Some great stuff on this album!

I never had a "Go To" Beatles album until I came to this forum in early March and really it's only been these last few weeks that I now know that "Abbey Road" is my go-to Beatles album. I feel like I'm cheating on all of my old favorite albums from other artists though. Gordon Lightfoot, I have not forgotten you!!!!!!
-
For me it's always been Abbey Road, but in recent years I find myself going back and forth between it and several others.
-
It purely depends on my moods. Do I feel like early Beatles, mid-Beatles or late-Beatles? I guess I tend to move between Abbey Road and the White Album more often than not.
-
Yesterday and Today would be the one lately. But Tomorrow Never Knows!
-
Rubber Soul (UK version). It has has such a great variety of songs. But ask me tomorrow and I may have a different answer.
-
Tough one....I would have to give it to Abbey Road. You Never Give Me Your Money through The End never gets old.
-
Almost always the White Album (my favorite), followed closely by Rubber Soul/Revolver or Sgt. Pepper/Abbey Road (depending on my mood)
