(i'll post pics after the Korea show to display if it's really a good choice or not [1 good shot makes it all worth it]) http://snapsort.com/compare ^Another very helpful site that compares a wide variety of cameras and shows each cameras pros & cons
Nice sites! Thanks a lot. I'm debating between a couple models & now I need to do more homework on them.
I've been using Sony cameras for years and love the results I get!!!
Will you & your cameras be coming to the soundcheck in Chicago? I know you are attending other shows too...but I was just wondering about Chicago.
-
I am coming to Chicago but I am still recovering from last year's 6 soundchecks so I was only able to do two...Pittsburgh was the first show to go on sale so I did that one and I planned all along to soundcheck Candlestick Park so just a gold ticket to Chciago..although once I get there I will probably be sorry that I didn't do it!!
-
Sue & I are doing Chicago & I believe she is also doing the Stick.
-
I still may upgrade to soundcheck but I won't make that decision until much closer. We'll see how much overtime I can get between here and now

Hey guys, My husband and I just purchased a new camera specifically for the show in Nashville in June. It's a Canon PowerShot SX510 HS- does anybody know if that sort of camera is allowed during the show- it doesn't have a detachable lens, but it does have quite a bit of zoom to it (around 30x I think)- it's not exactly able to fit in a pocket, but not huge either- I think it's a compact- here's the site for it: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/digital_cameras/powershot_sx510_hs I am hoping to be able to get some really good pictures of Paul and his band during the soundcheck and show (especially the soundcheck, because my friend Chris really wants to see photos of that). Anyway, just figured I would ask. Also, the folks that posted photos- WOW! I hope I can take as nice of photos as you did! Thanks, Sarah
You should be fine with that. They're really looking for professional gear. I try to get there early enough so if they do make me take it back to my car, I will have plenty of time. This time I'm just going to use my Apple iPhone 5. Good luck with your picture taking and post some up after the show!
-
I just used my Samsung Galaxy S4 at a concert where I was in the 2nd row and got much better photos than my Canon Powershot ELPH 520HS. Wasn't allowed to use flash for either, but still got some great shots. I'll try both at Paul's Atlanta show June 21 from the 3rd row.

I picked up a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V this weekend. It seems to be an updated version of the Sony Cyber-shot recommended in the article. My other camera is a Canon S95. It was a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. It did everything I wanted but the zoom was only 3.5. The Sony has a 30x soom!

The Sony also has a 50X zoom that is the same size as the 30X zoom. I bring that one in for soundchecks because you are further back. My small pocket Sony has 30X zoom and you'll never have a problem that into any venue

The 50x zoom I saw is larger than the 30x zoom. The 30x zoom can fit in a pocket while the other cannot. Or am I looking at the wrong models?

No, you got it..I didn't understand you...the old version of the bigger camera was 30X and went up to 50x but the pocket 30X is the one is use up close

LOL! It doesn't help either when they call a 30x zoom the HX50v. Just like everything...they are trying to keep us all confused.

I wonder how many folks are getting new cameras specifically for Paul's concerts. I'm doing the sound check for the first time and would like to get some good pictures. But I understand that we will be ~30 rows back and I'm not sure if the lighting will be good or not.

Bob, are you coming to Atlanta? If so, and if by some miracle I get up there on stage with Paul, please take photos of us! (I am attending alone) Thanks!

I'm not getting a new camera specifically for the concert but what better excuse?
-
I leave the picture taking up to hubby because my hands shake too much, plus don't want to miss a second of staring at Paul. Our little point & shoot took fairly good pics of Paul 4 years ago, so we do the same in August. Problem is that we don't have as good of seats that we did in 2010.
-
Funny how people used to have to sneak in cameras!

Lighting at Paul's concerts is fantastic! No worries there! Just make sure you have a good zoom.

I have a pocket point & shoot with 12x zoom. I also have a larger format camera (not SLR) with 36x zoom, but I've never felt comfortable with it. Going to my first soundcheck at Candlestick. Was wondering if I should bring both, or just go with my favorite little P&S. Suggestions appreciated, thanks.

I would bring both! What row are you in? I was in the 4th row with an old Canon P&S with only 3X zoom and got some good pics. This year I have a 12X zoom and will be in the 3rd row. For soundcheck I was way too far away with that old Canon.
