Camera Question

I found in the past that when I tried to take a picture with background in a blue color, it didn't turn out. My red ones look great though. Anyone else have that problem?

I have a pocket point & shoot with 12x zoom. I also have a larger format camera (not SLR) with 36x zoom, but I've never felt comfortable with it. Going to my first soundcheck at Candlestick. Was wondering if I should bring both, or just go with my favorite little P&S. Suggestions appreciated, thanks.
I would bring both! What row are you in? I was in the 4th row with an old Canon P&S with only 3X zoom and got some good pics. This year I have a 12X zoom and will be in the 3rd row. For soundcheck I was way too far away with that old Canon.
I'm in 4th row too, and I'm sure my trusty pocket 12x will be good for the main show. Just wondering if I want to take the extra weight of the 36x zoom just for soundcheck. It's a little more complicated to use as well, so I sometimes miss some of "the moment"'' messing around with it!

Here are a couple of pictures I took from the 3rd row in Seattle: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7295/9337850219_15d44e079f_b.jpg http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3704/9338110013_61f24fb9b9_b.jpg I used a Sony DSC-HX30V. Nice little point & shoot camera with a great zoom (20x optical). I'm pretty sure they now make a 50V model with a 30x zoom. Just make sure you spot meter off Paul's face to get the lighting right. Here's a link to the full set if you're interested: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjH11mNJ

Check out bigmark's pics. Great ones! Take your bigger camera with too.

OK, I guess I'll bring both! I can't believe I have to wait 3 months to see him

Just about 5 weeks for me!

So... I was at Best Buy looking at a camera & the sales people are trained to ask what you'll be using it for...so they can help. (ha! They couldn't even FIND the camera...I found it around the corner...on display). Anyway...I tell the young man that it's for work but also for taking pics at a concert. He asks who am I going to see. I tell him McCartney & he screams! He said he wants to take his dad. Amazing. Paul &/or The Beatles has an effect on everyone.

Ok, here's my problem,When i saw Paul at an outdoor stadium -Comerica - my pics were fantastic. Last year in Indy...indoor arena, most of my photos had too much white light over Paul.So what setting do I need on my little point & shoot & my Samsung phone ?

I'll be in the 3rd row - still debating whether to buy a new camera just for this concert. My little Pentax Optio is 8 years old now.

Digital cameras have come a long way in 8 years. As in a lot more pixels and features for less money. I used to have a Pentax Optio also, I think it was 5 MP. It was a pretty good camera I recall. But even cell phone cameras can outperform that now.

I picked up a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V this weekend. It seems to be an updated version of the Sony Cyber-shot recommended in the article. My other camera is a Canon S95. It was a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. It did everything I wanted but the zoom was only 3.5. The Sony has a 30x soom!
Just got mine too! Need to experiment with it a bit. Took a little video of hubby out in the shop & it looks great.

Good point. I tend to be slow at adopting new technology, but what better excuse!

I have a DSLR but even when I can get it in, if I have decent seats I often can't use it much because of fear of getting shut down because of the large zoom - I'm too busy keeping an eye on security. And my old P&S just doesn't cut it. One question on these smaller cameras that can be taking into concerts. It looks like most being discussed don't have viewfinders. Are there recommended cameras that have a viewfinder? I hate taking pictures without one, and I turn off the LCD when using any camera in a concert. I'd think it would also be annoying to the people around you to be using the LCD to frame photos? Or am I missing something?

Some of the younger people on here are probably saying "What's a viewfinder?" I didn't even know you could turn off the LCD! Nobody cares if people use it (everyone I know does)

I need to start brushing up on taking pics with my new camera. So many settings!

Just ordered the Sony DSC-HX50V today, and it will be here Saturday! I've been eyeing this thing up since Paul announced the US leg of the tour.. Had some Best Buy gift cards laying around, and only ended up paying $88 out of pocket! Can't wait to see how this thing works and take it for a test drive before the Pittsburgh show!!

I got that one too. A few of my pics are coming out blurry. Need to check into this!

Well, the delay in my show is good news for a camera purchase and I found out I am getting a raise in salary. I should be able to afford a nicer camera and get it before October. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics all of you post from the July shows with your new cameras!

I just need to fiddle with the settings more. There are many of them. I've been trying out a few different settings. I think it will do better with the sports setting. It is also great as a macro camera. And a very cool function is the panoramic shot. It takes like 5 pics as you move the camera left to right & it automatically stitches them together. Very cool.

Hopefully this camera will provide that. It is also great as a macro camera. And a very cool function is the panoramic shot. Sounds pretty nice!! Can't wait to get my hands on it and figure it out! I don't know about you, but I'm not too advanced in photography at all.. I never took the time to understand the aperture settings, etc. I just want a basic setting done for me so I won't have to waste much time fiddling with my camera at the concert!
