Would be nice if the DVD contained video of his '74 Tour!
Yes, it would but unfortunately it doesn't.

According to a few websites (chiefly examiner.com) Dhani has posted a photo and a cryptic comment on Instagram that suggests he has finished work on a box set of George's first seven albums on Apple. Here's a link to the examiner.com page: http://www.examiner.com/article/george-harrison-remasters-box-set-could-be-the-works A possible September 22 release date is mentioned.
I ordered mine - September 23 in the USA. 7 CDs iTunes also has it for $59 bucks. Same release date: 09/23/14.

But if you remember George's notes for the AMTP reissue, he said he was tempted to strip away all of Phil Spector's production. What are the chances of that this time?
Hopefully none. Phil's wall of sound was perfect for the songs/album. In fact, "What Is Life" may well be the best example of Phil's wall-of-sound ever...better than on any other of the songs he produced....including those with the Righteous Brothers. His multi-layered-sound production of "My Sweet Lord" b/w "Isn't It A Pity"got George off to a great start. I'm not sure I'm looking forward to "Dark Horse"....George's hoarse voice....and "Extra Texture"...just not a very good album at all....IMO. Guess I'll take a pass on all of this.

How many times do we have to Buy All Things Must Pass?? It does look cool..still would love Venus And Mars on the sameday!!
-
Each album is also available to buy separately by itself for those who don't want the whole box set of all the albums, or want to buy only certain ones. You can't get the DVD though, or the book, outside the box. Just like The Beatles box sets.
-
No video of his 1974 Tour on the DVD! Sheesh, I so wish they would release this PLUS more demos and unreleased George stuff! PLEASE!!! Still going to get this box as there are at least 4 discs I would like to get and it's not that much more to get the whole box. I really liked the Living in the Material World box from a few years ago so I really don't need an upgrade from that or All Things Must Pass but as I said, not much more for the whole set so?why not?

I agree with you. I love the box, but issuing "All Things Must Pass" again? I feel like the remastered version they released in 2000 was the definitive remaster.

"Extra Texture" was the first George album I got, so it's kind of special for me. I think it's got some lovely songs. ATMP has been remastered again, but I'm sure with the wall of sound intact. Sure would be interesting, though, like "Double Fantasy Stripped Down." I've pre-ordered the box. Disappointed about no 1974 tour footage (unless there's an Easter egg on the DVD... Do they still do those hidden things?), but it looks like a beautiful package.

Can somebody tell if the Apple Years versions of ATMP and LITMW are identical to the previous reissues? I mean identical as in: really the same.

George's 1974 Tour was disastrous on many levels. Horrible vocals throughout, poor taste & unrecognizable versions of Beatles songs including In My Life, fans booing George & George admonishing the crowd accordingly. There was a reason he never did a U.S. Tour again. I doubt his estate will ever release "full-blown" concert footage. I would probably guess that George told them not to before he passed.
-
I saw him in Atlanta in 1974 and his singing was fine that night (not hoarse) nobody booed him, even when he changed the one line in "In My Life" to "I loved God more."

I think anybody that downplays George's U.S. Tour in '74, most likely didn't attend and is going by what they read about it. I was lucky enough to attend his evening show at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, and enjoyed it thoroughly! I agree, his voice didn't sound like it did at the Bangla Desh show a few years earlier, however it did actually improve as the tour went on. As far as the songs he did, I thought it was a great mix of his Beatles, solo, and of course his "new" album. The audience that night was great! I don't recall hearing any "boooing" that evening. The reception he received when he came on stage must have reminded him of the "old days"...just 8 short years ago! I'll admit, George's only U.S. solo tour was not Wings in 1976, but it was a great show!

They have been newly remastered, so they should sound different, but I haven't checked side by side to know how different.

Things I've noticed so far in the box: My box had Electronic Sound before Wonderwall Music in the slots, so I switched them to be chronological. The notes to ES reveal that the phrase on the back cover is not CRAPPLE WITH IT, as most writers seem to think, but GRAPPLE WITH IT. On page 12 of the hardback booklet with the DVD, there's a photo of a tape box from WM that lists all of the tracks from Side 1, including one called "Drilling A Hole," while all other references to this song (in this package and all previous releases) list it as "Drilling A Home." Makes me wonder which one is the real title, since "Hole" makes more logical sense. I hadn't noticed on the last reissue of LITMW, but they've changed the spelling from "Ritchie" to "Richy" in the lyrics to the title song. Mark Lewisohn most have got a hold of them, because he's very emphatic in his "Tune In" book that the latter is the correct spelling of Ringo's other nickname. The front cover of Extra Texture is not die-cut, just has blue letters, so you can't see through to the inner sleeve. I'm kind of surprised.
