Why do Republicans Hate the Beatles?
-
Republicans LOVE rock music. Unfortunately for them, though, most rock artists don't like them using their songs for campaign purposes -- and there have been plenty of Cease And Desist orders to prove it.

I would definitely agree that Paul showed Obama's image in support of his politics as well as the general civil rights aspect. I'm also quite sure that Paul had to give up that Kennedy Center honor that year because of that scheduling conflict, because that is the rule. I suppose it's an open question, though, whether Paul would have canceled the family commitment if it hadn't been Bush at the time! It's pretty rare for Paul to get that explicitly political, and I would venture to say that his vocal support of Kerry probably had something to do with being married to Heather, who did spur him to be more strident in his views in general than he otherwise would. He certainly does his best not to alienate his fans, preferring to focus on particular issues instead of particular candidates for the most part. He did use the issue of civil rights as the context of showing Obama on the screen, but it was also a subtle way to support him politically, I think it's clear.
I think it's also clear that Paul has backed away from his support as Obama has become more militaristic and tended to lean toward the center in recent years. Some might say a bit disappointing.
More than a bit disappointing, but if this is going to turn into a political discussion, we should probably take it to a more appropriate board. But I don't buy the idea that Heather pushed him to announce his support for Kerry. Paul's a big boy and, by most accounts, pretty headstrong. He said it because he wanted to say it -- and the audience cheered, except for one idiot a couple rows away from me.

Okay, then maybe it's pure coincidence that the only time Paul has ever publicly advocated for a U.S. presidential candidate was when he was married to Heather. Hey, who knows?

Kerry was an actual hero -- while "Dubya" was a combat-dodger who would become responsible for the biggest military-intervention blunder in American history. Also, when Paul was honored by The White House in 2010, he said that infamous zinger against "Dubya." I think Paul felt slighted (to say the least) by the previous Presidency, especially after working so hard to organize The Concert For New York City.

I love all of your answers everyone! After careful consideration of conducting my own poll at work, I have come to the conclusion that Republicans, Democrats, Independents and unsures ALL LOVE THE BEATLES!

I can think of one famous Republican who definitely hated the Beatles, or at least John: Richard Nixon.

Yes, one Elvis Presley shared those concerns in his famous letter to the Pres. Not fans of the hippie elements or drug culture, either of them. Which put John right in the firing line of Nixon. And one hell of a witch hunt.
