New album by Ringo, titled Postcards from Paradise
-
It's no secret that Ringo fought addiction as a way to cope with his lack of self confidence. When he lost The Beatles he freaked out and got to work with George Martin right away. Being very likable he had friends help out with the arrangements. A few years down the road he had his friends again help write songs for him. He knows that his is limited as a song writer while being a solid drummer; not flashy a la Neil Peart BUT working TO the song. I mean how many drummers went on to become very successful solo artists - aside from Phil Collins. I would kill to be in Ringo's shoes. While he isn't the most technical musicians he is one of the biggest influences in the history of music; aspiring musicians to pick up a guitar or drums. I will say he was the most successful one of the Beatles as an actor; a feat that continued well into the 70s.
-
I'll admit that. Ringo may not be as fluent and... all over the place as drummers like Gregg Bissonette, or Simon Phillips, or Phil Collins, but he's still a brilliant master. Everytime someone criticises his drumming, I'm thinking... "What?!" It just boggles my mind when they say he's the worst drummer in the world.
-
Yes, like MetalGod says, Ringo plays TO the song. I think he is underrated, and I'm glad he's being inducted into the Hall of Fame. He has a recognizable style, which you can't say about a lot of other drummers. I think everyone agreed when they first heard those two drum beats at the beginning of "Free As A Bird": that's Ringo!

By the way, Ringo will be promoting the new album next week, appearing on "Ellen" and "Conan," among other things.... http://www.examiner.com/article/beatles-news-ringo-sets-twitter-tv-appearances-fab-four-themed-hotel-for-sale

I shall be watching out for this. I got money on Ringo performing Rory and the Hurricanes and Island In The Sun with the All Starrs, maybe along with A Little Help From My Friends and a drum song like Boys

Ringo's Postcards From Paradise CD is getting some pretty decent reviews from what I've seen so far. It appears Ringo has delivered a winner!!! http://www.moderndrummer.com/site/2015/03/album-review-ringo-starr-postcards-from-paradise/#_ http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/reviews/article-3013997/At-74-Ringo-drums-winner-Star-s-latest-offering-gets-little-help-friends-ADRIAN-THRILLS-reviews-former-Beatle-s-new-album.html http://somethingelsereviews.com/2015/03/26/ringo-starr-postcards-from-paradise-review/
3 Stars and a good review in the latest Rolling Stone with him on the cover! With the new album coming out next week and the Rock Hall of Fame induction in April, this looks to be one of his biggest years ever! Good on ya, Ringo! -<- &

Soooooo, Ringo's appearing on a couple of TV shows to promote the new album next week. Anyone willing to take a guess which songs he'll perform?

Fair bet. I'm thinking he's gonna do a mixture of Boys, Rory and the Hurricanes, Island In The Sun, and A Little Help From My Friends. If he's with the All Starrs, Island In The Sun is a natural for them. And of course he'll be wanting to do a drum song and his signature centre stage song.... and I really like Rory and the Hurricanes, so I'm hoping he does that too

Can you post shows and dates? They don't seem to be on either Ringo's website or his Twitter feed. Thanks!

Never mind, found it! Though others might find the info helpful. By the way, I just listened to Bamboula and like it a lot. I like Confirmation, too.

Yeah, Bamboula's a pretty fantastic piece. I'd probably rank it 3rd best on this album, behind Rory, and Island In The Sun.

Actually, I'm suspecting Rory and the Hurricanes will be played on the drums, like Love Me Do was... so I'm gonna drop Boys, and put Photograph on the list, cause he's got the new wider release of the book coming out soon

It seems THIS may be the actual cover, but either way, I think it's unwise as an image and a title. Unless you're Jimmy Buffett or Jack Johnson, these tropical images just project a sense that you just goofed around by the beach with some friends and didn't really get down to business. This kind of image sure didn't work for Kings Of Leon or Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and I don't think it'll work for Ringo either. If he's got a killer single coming, that could overcome it, but I'm not too hopeful, I'm afraid. I will still buy it, of course!
He doesn't have a thing to prove, so it doesn't matter what the cover is. Anyway, music should be fun, not business.
True, but didn't his last album sell in four-digit numbers? I just think he would be better served by a cover that suggests some kind of excitement, like it rocks. "Ringo Rama" and "Choose Love" conveyed that pretty well, I thought. His last few covers have been terribly unimaginative, you have to admit!
The songs on the album pretty much fit the cover. It's Ringo doing his Ringo songs. It could have been recorded at any point during the last 30+ years. It's basically just the same as his previous few. There are pleasant moments and he has some great musicians assisting him, but it's Ringo being Ringo. One knows exactly what to expect and that's exactly what one gets. I will, however catch him on Ellen today....maybe he'll play some of the new stuff and get a great response....and not "With A Little Help From My Friends". If he does that old standby, the people will sing along, of course, and Ellen will probably talk about those grand days of yore and all the great memories and then he will be gone and the album will sell a couple of thousand copies and that will be that! One thing that stands out on his new album, is that unlike Paul his voice has stayed exactly the same for decades. (I mean it was never a great singing voice, but it is as strong now as then.) There's none of the hoarseness in his vocals that plagues Paul's recordings and live appearances.

Those are my three favorites as well. I think I would place Bamboula first, then Rory....for its energy and nice kickoff of the album...and then Island In The Sun.

I'm still waiting for this postcard from Amazon... I agree that Ringo's voice has stayed pretty much the same, but he may not have stretched his voice in all directions, like McCartney. There is less wear and tear. Ringo is a bit more monotonous, but easily recognizable.

True!! Did you not receive an email from Amazon inviting you to click on a link and hear the entire album while you waited for the one you purchased from them online? I did this morning....and heard all of it. You might want to check with them on the status....and ask where your free "listening copy" is.

If you have an amazon account then you should have an amazon music player. The album will be available to stream via the player and a location to download the mp3 files.
-
Not that I can remember, but I rarely pay attention to streaming and downloads, so I may have just pushed the button. I pre-ordered the album and it has delivery estimate 15 April 2015. It's quite long for a new album but it can be in the mail tomorrow anyway. Think I prefer to wait and play it on my stereo. I'm a record collector.

Well, so far, a good number of positive reviews. Let's hope this trek continues. I really do want this album to succeed where Ringo 2012 didn't.
