Paul McCartney 2016 Rumors

Sgt._Pepper:
I'm sorry, but, Paul is "overdue for a NY area show"? NYC has had PLENTY of opportunities over the last 7 years to see him, whether it be in a stadium, an arena, intimate venues, benefits, and TV appearances. With the exception of 2014, Paul has had some sort of event happening in NYC, with the most recent being the Irving Plaza show in February 2015.
I have a hard time feeling sorry for New Yorkers. It's like Alaskans complaining that Virginia gets too much snow.

"The truth was that ticket sales had stiffed and if the shows had gone ahead McCartney would have performed to a half empty venue." If I was Macca I'd never return to Australia then. He can go anywhere else and fill large stadiums, no reason to play to half empty venues in a far, far away place.

I wonder where that went wrong, then? Since any act from venue-status to stadium-status fills the seats in Australia just fine.

Oh my bad. I meant that in 2015 he didn't post anything about Burns Night on Facebook or Twitter, but this year he has. I don't think that's a sign he's coming to Scotland...I really doubt he will for a long time.

Springsteen officially not going to Pinkpop. Guess we will just have to wait and see. The source on McCartney playing there is sketchy as hell, but it's a good educated guess.
Any new info here? http://www.telegraaf.nl/filmenuitgaan/article/25092523/mccartney-op-pinkpop

Yeah, probably. I wonder if MPL regret posting that Australia message now.

No, just that there are rumours that Macca could be playing pinkpop. The festival' s founder Mr. "pinkpop" Jan Smeets says he will not reveal anything. Rumours are getting stronger... Final pinkpop program will be revealed Feb 16 at 12:00. I think the chances are high he will play there. It's just 25 km from my house. Macca can stay at my place

True, but there are a few factors to consider: 1. He was only playing Melbourne (capital of Victoria). Two-thirds of Australia's population lives in the state capitals, and the distances between them are (mostly) measured in thousands of kilometers. Only a small percentage of the population will ever travel interstate just to see a rock show, and even less so in 2003 when air travel was more expensive. 2. He was known to have done a deal with the government of Victoria to make his appearance in Australia exclusive to Melbourne. This annoyed non-Victorians, given that it had already been ten years since he had toured, which seemed like a long time already. I was certainly annoyed...but I still bought tickets. 3. The ticket prices were regarded as extortionate by Australian standards at the time. The Rolling Stones toured around about that time (on their Forty Licks tour) and their top ticket price in the three hundreds was regarded as hefty and they were playing arenas. Paul's was in the five hundreds for stadium gigs. To put it in perspective, tickets for Paul's Japan tour that same year probably equated to around $100 for slightly smaller venues (domes rather than stadiums). I think the situation would be different now, so long as he played AT LEAST three states (he has since said that he would like to do a proper tour like in 1993 where he played five states).

There are rumors that Paul will be headlining Pinkpop Festival next spring in The Netherlands, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. Not officially confirmed yet...

Good luck! Hopefully he will confirm that festival and perhaps a European tour as well.

I though it was cancelled because of credible threats of terrorism.

The official excuse was the Bali bombings, that it would be inappropriate to perform in that aftermath -- which smelled like bulltish to anyone with the most basic critical thinking skills.

Yup. Here's the original statement: http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2002/10/27/1035683303442.html "Like many who have a deep fondness for Australia, I have been shocked and saddened by the recent terrible events in Bali. My heart goes out to all who have been affected by this tragedy. As a mark of respect to both the families who have lost loved ones and to the families of the injured, I have decided to postpone my planned concert in Melbourne as this is not the appropriate time for a rock show. In time, that show will hopefully come to be. But for now, my sympathies and those of all of us on this tour are with you all in your grief." 14 years later, 25 NYC gigs later...

After all this time I don't give a jody****. Sure, nobody was more pissed off than me back in 02...but ffs, some Aussies need to build a bridge. If there's a chance he comes back, however slim, I'm all for it. And if the comments on his facebook are are anything to go by, so do 99% of his fans.

I thought I was being obvious. Assuming that the message was not supposed to hint at an upcoming tour, then MPL clearly just created a lot of excitement, drama and (to a certain extent) hurt feelings for no reason. Not sure it was worth the negative publicity, that's all.

The simplest way he could have ended all the hoopla about 2002 was to actually make good on his statement at the time, reschedule the show and rock our socks off. More than a decade later he still hasn't. THAT $peak$ volume$.
