Was No More Lonely Nights Paul's last classic?

NMLN is typical of his 80's pap. Better than most of his 80's rubbish, but only slightly. That period from 82 through 87 was his nadir. In an attempt to move with the trends instead of setting them, he totally lost his way. Thankfully he recovered. I remember hearing Back On My Feet for the first time and thinking, the title is spot on! His first decent song in ages. ...and that was the start of hauling himself out of the mire. But make no mistake, sure he was still Paul McCartney, but during that period he was pretty much a musical lightweight.
I tend to agree. NMLN is a pretty good song compared to what he was doing in that period, but is it REALLY as good as My Brave Face or Hope Of Deliverance? I think not.

I think so!

^ In other words fans will always pick and choose different favourites - it doesn't mean one is wrong. I still say it's a total classic - in that it was a huge hit and also a great song.

Yes. I would consider it one of Paul's last classics in terms of sales and quality here in the states. I consider it one of Paul's top songs.
Are you referring to Hope Of Deliverance?
No. Referring to No More Lonely Nights. The beauty is some of us agree to disagree. I would put it as one of Paul's top songs (not meant at you Nancy R. but just my view overall).

No More Lonely Nights, Beautiful Night, and Calico Skies were the last songs that are up to par for me with anything he wrote as a Beatle (such as Yesterday, Here, There & Everywhere, I Will, etc.)
Completely agree. NMLN is my favorite solo song, along with Maybe I'm Amazed, because it does hold up to his best work. It's a shame he hasn't embraced the song in his shows. Although I was tickled to hear it in the pre-show music for the Detroit show last October.
it has very high vocal notes plus great solo by Dave Gilmour
I was also thinking that was the reason he has never performed the song live - out of his vocal range. Or, it brings up bad memories about the film!
I think the latter explains it. He almost never does material from albums that flopped, including his whole mid-80s run.

Agree entirely. Actually, I prefer the two original rockers on "Broad Street" to NMLN.

the album was No.1 , the song was No.2 in the charts! the song was not even included in the flopped film! Paul current vocal range won't help him sing those strong high notes unfortunately

No--I agree with you. I was just confused whether you were answering the OP's question or referring to HOD from the previous post.

I really liked NMLN (No More Lonely Nights)..... yeah it's very 80's, especially listening to it now (guitar especially), but sadly, I think it was the last single that non-Paul nut fans (US) have really adhered themselves to..... Paul hasn't really been able to nut out a single of that importance for the non-fans since.... even if there are better since.... is it a classic?... there are probably many songs I prefer more in that early-mid 80's period... but, no doubt, I like NMLN (permitted as an ACM once stated first-hand)..... in fact, I like it a lot....but, I also love the beefed up version of the song too.

There's just an instrumental version as he walks through the empty station at the end, then the up tempo playout version. The single version doesn't appear in the film.

Never heard of that abbreviation before and couldn't find it on Google.
