I just read the latest on Elton receiving the award. I am very happy he is doing well as he had to have his appendix removed and I was worried about him. (since I saw him in concert last March 22nd I haven't been able to forget how great he was that night. )

I just previewed Elton's entire upcoming album and once again, I feel a classic rocker's return to the studio has been overrated. The reviews are right in that it is similar to his earliest work. It's piano heavy, it's lyrically intriguing, but the production makes it challenging to understand what he's saying and the melodies are not exciting at all. You can hear the whole thing here...I'd love to know what other fans are thinking too...http://www.amazon.com/Elton-John/e/B000APU2KS/ref=ac_dtp_sa_link I enjoyed all of the "Dream" instrumental interludes, very musical and provocative...yes, I'm using these words properly. Other than that I enjoyed... -A Town Called Jubilee -Voyeur -Home Again -The New Fever Waltz -The Diving Board (Probably my favorite)

Well I love Elton's new album, of what I have heard, immensely. But I am biased because I love everything he does. I just read that Elton and his band will be in Atlanta, Georgia on Nov. 16, 2013. I am going no matter what!

I shall be seeing Elton's Red Piano show in Vegas on October 12.

Very cool! But it's the million dollar piano now

Whatever it's called, we are going! I am wondering if he sells those concerts at the show. When I saw Elton in Des Moines a few years ago, you bought a card before the show started. After concert, I received a USB stick with some of the songs and a code to download rest of concert. Well worth money.

I've heard of him doing that but it's never happened when I've seen him...not sure if Vegas shows get that treatment or not!

I think the Diving Board is good album and it's grown on me since i bought it on Monday, but i don't think it's better than his last solo record Captain And The Kid from 2007 which i think is great. I'm hoping when i see Billy Joel in November Elton will make a surprise appearance but i wont hold my breath, i think they're still not talking to each other.

I saw the Million Dollar Piano show at the Colosseum and it was fantastic! No recordings to buy though. Caesar's Palace controls that stuff pretty well. You can take all the pictures you want though with a phone or point and shoot. Wonderful concert! I would definitely see that again if I went to Vegas.

Elton will be on tour here in the states during Billy's UK run...I'm seeing Elton on Nov. 14th...REALLY hoping Billy decides to do some dates over here in 2014 as he has been hinting at. Have you ever seen a Face2Face show? Billy stole the show at the one I saw...but Elton had a hissy fit because his piano pedal got stuck, stormed off stage, and had a terrible night as a result...not impressive. But then I saw him with Leon Russell in 2011 and he was remarkable. Looking forward to a third time with JUST him!

I did look at Elton's US tour dates and there's a small window of opportunity for him to appear with Billy in London. Elton is the one artist i've never got around to seeing despite having around 20 albums. I should try and rectify that before it's too late.

I saw Elton live in 2005 and he put on a great show. I just reviewed his new album for my blog today, and must say I think it is very strong. I like the fact that it's piano-driven and the stripped-back feel brings the lyrics to the foreground. My highlight is 'My Quicksand'.
-
It's great to read that Elton's still "got it," I've loved so many of his songs
-
I've seen two of the F2F shows, many years apart. Both were excellent and I'm glad I got to see them. I think Elton is still not happy with Billy so it's doubtful if he'd make a surprise appearance at a Billy Joel concert. Thanks for letting me know I can take pictures at Caesar's.

Oscar Wilde Gets Out is my favourite track, but the album has grown on me the more i listen to it. The one thing Paul as a musician has over Elton is that he composers songs using more than one instrument and this gives his music more variety overall.

I agree to an extent, but this album was intended to be piano driven with primarily just light bass and drum accompaniment to be reminiscent of his first few albums.

Captain And The Kid is piano driven in the main but it's more upbeat overall than The Diving Board. I think from Songs From The West Coast on Elton has tried to put the piano mainly to the fore and make less convoluted music.

I agree. I'd say "The Union" is his best work of the 21st century though. Leon just adds a special touch, and the song writing simply seems better to me!
