Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

I apologize if there's a post on this and I just can't find it. But does anyone know what's up with Paul's role in the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie? Just curious if anyone knows what he'll be doing.

A quick google search )other search engines are available!), doesn't bring up anything much except the newspaper artivles from march 2016 with the original announcement. The listing on IMDB shows he's listed among the cast but no character name has been assigned to him (yet): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1790809/up nothing

These are some links I posted on another thread last Summer: From March 2016, about Paul's upcoming role in POTC: http://screenrant.com/pirates-caribbean-5-dead-men-cast-paul-mccartney/ "According to Deadline, and despite the project having already wrapped principle photography, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No tales has just resumed the filming in order to include new cast member Paul McCartney to be included in an all-new extra big set-piece for the new film. While little is known at the time of this writing in regards to who the former Beatle will be playing in the movie, it is known that the resumed shooting schedule will not entail a reshoot of a pre-existing scene, but an entirely original sequence - added for the inclusion of McCartney's character in the final movie, that is." And this article from April 2016 indicates the filming took place in Vancouver http://www.vancitybuzz.com/2016/04/paul-mccartney-pirates-of-the-caribbean/ "The production of this extra scene, which features McCartney, began in Vancouver on March 24 and is scheduled to continue until April 13. There have already been public sightings of both McCartney and Depp, who was seen with his wife Amber Heard dining at Tojo's Restaurant on Thursday night." IMO it looks like Paul will probably have an extended cameo role as part of a big musical number ("big set piece") in the film.

Thanks! I knew this was the place to go for answers, at least as far as is known.

Glad to help Lyonness! The film will be released in May, so over the next few months they'll probably give out more bits and pieces (and possibly a photo or two) about his role in the film. We can update this thread with any new info.

I don't think so. It will be a cameo like Keith Richard did in the last movies. This kind of roles are there to suprise the audience. They won't tell anybody before about it - let alone show a picture of him.

ok, we can all look forward to being surprised at whatever Paul is doing in the movie!

Agreed!

he's the worst actor in the history of film. i hope he isn't in it. not that i'll see it anyway but just knowing he's going to be staring into the camera, as usual, when he shouldn't is going to drive me nuts.

___________________________________________________________ A very small percentage of people have a "natural" gift for acting like Johnny Depp. The overwhelming majority of people can't "act" to save their lives. As great of a songwriter and musician as he is, Paul is just one of those many, many people who can't act. To say that he is the worst actor in the history of film is a bit of an overstatement. Because he is so famous as a musician and person, he gets into far more situations out of his comfort zone than most and his non-abilities as an actor is far more visible. I liked the Keith Richard's cameo in the previous film so I hope Paul's is close to being as good. He doesn't really have to act in a split second cameo.

Sweet Jesus! I forgot how bad Keith Richards was in that too!

I may be in the minority here, but I think Paul would be wonderful in films, I'd like to see him in other roles as well, and I enjoyed seeing him in the two movies he's done so far, Hard Day's Night, and Help, and thought he and the other Beatles did well! He was very young when he did those films, and had no previous acting experience, except for a few comedy sketches on TV with the other Beatles. I don't think he was ever in any full length plays in school or amateur theater productions before the Beatles made it big. Anyway, the roles in the films were written for him (and the other Beatles) to simply be themselves, so the acting didn't require a great actor who could show the emotional depths and acting range of an Olivier or Richard Burton or Peter O'Toole. Not having acted before, it was a new experience for him and the Beatles, but I think they pulled it off successfully. Paul has a great sense of humor and dry wit and flair for comedy when he's ad-libbing in interviews or making mashed potatoes on video, and when he's simply himself. My point is, let's not sell him short on the movie just yet... I think the movie producers wouldn't have cast him in the cameo role unless they felt positive he could add something (comically or musically) to the film.

+1 I've also never understood all the criticism Paul gets for his acting. I've always enjoyed watching him in all the movies (don't forget MMT and Broad Street!), and I think he does much better than the vast majority of non-actors would. He's very good at deadpanning, as all four of them were and are. John and Ringo were the most natural actors of the group, but Paul's performances were not far behind IMO. He even does well as Pyramus in the Midsummer Night's Dream sketch -- his facial expressions are priceless. I most love his bits on SNL, especially the Chris Farley show, which must have been very difficult to play straight, and that cut skit where he played the job-seeker. He has strong comedic timing. He's also especially skilled with voices and impressions, and I wish they would make better use of those talents on SNL. As LadyLeslie said, most of the time he plays himself in things, which I think is a shame, as he'd likely be better as a character actor. It will be interesting to see who/what he winds up playing in Pirates. I'm really looking forward!

Agreed with everything you wrote, and would never want to forget Magical Mystery Tour or Broad Street either! Always love his deadpanning too, and thought he was great on SNL. It will be interesting to see what his cameo will be in POTC, I know we're all looking forward to it. I still think there's the possibility of him doing some kind of a musical number in the film, considering it took a week or more to film his scene(s) (from what was written in news links posted above). We'll find out when we see it.

Have you ever seen any of Madonna's movies?

Paul has a great sense of humor and dry wit and flair for comedy when he's ad-libbing in interviews or making mashed potatoes on video, and when he's simply himself.
But he's not being himself. He's always hamming it up for the camera. Most of us will never see the real Paul, beyond his music. Acting is about being honest. The best actors react truthfully to a fictional situation. Paul is entirely too self-conscious on camera. That can be funny sometimes, of course, but it rarely makes for great acting.

I think he has a great sense of humor and tries to be himself always. He's a musician, he doesn't aspire to be an Olivier, or Richard Burton... he doesn't have to be. He's outstanding in the field of music and the path he's chosen in life, so he doesn't have to be anything other than himself

I dont't expect to much just to see his pretty face
