Paul McCartney’s “The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present”: A visual feast, if flawed, for Beatles fans
""The Lyrics" has its own ace in the hole. Edited by celebrated Irish poet Paul Muldoon, the anthology is a feast for the eyes. Dyed-in-the-wool Beatles fans will be bowled over by the sheer profundity of unpublished photographs, previously unseen lyrics sheets, journal entries, paintings, and the like. Indeed, "The Lyrics" easily represents the finest collection of illustrations associated with McCartney's life and work. And it's beautifully rendered, to boot. Drop-dead gorgeous as books go, "The Lyrics" rivals the finest art imprints, including the handsome limited editions from the likes of Taschen and Genesis."

Put it there, if it weighs a ton...
Those lines were all I could think of when my copy arrived from Amazon. Combined, these two books are heavy. Reading portions randomly. Excellent especially the write up on Het Majesty.

Anyone else pick up on the advanced publication copies that reported thatPaul was claiming authorship of all the lyrics of A Day in The Life. Even had quotes. These were reported in various newspapers, including The Times and The Telegraph on line. My copy has none of that. Were advanced copies corrected or were those intentionally written that way to generate publicity, interests and sales of The Lyrics?
Enjoying the book very much. After following his career all these years with albums, concerts, film, nice to see him do something totally ground-breaking and exciting. He is almost 80 and can still do something new and not talking about the 2013 album of that same name!
And now, think I hear the road calling Macca in 2022!

All I read was that Paul said he came up with "I read the news today, oh boy" not the entire song!

Nancy IMO has always appeared to be a fun lady and I guess this story confirms it. When you see brief clips of her at concerts, she always seems to be into it and singing along. I am glad he found happiness again with somebody who appears to be his soul mate.

What I saw was him staking a claim to it all but that is not the casein my copy.
As for The Lyrics, have finished the first volume, A-K,and am now into second one. For lovers of Scotland, lots of references to it as well as color photos of Kintyre. I pre-ordered back in February and definitely worth the wait.

Thanks for the link Oobu!
Have been taking it in slowly, and for me it is such a treasure! It's like getting a bunch of deluxe albums all at once, with wonderful photos, handwritten lyrics drawings and so many goodies of Paul and the family. So beautifully done. Kudos to the Archive team!!! An absolutely stellar job one and all.

Haven't bought the book yet...
I don't want to open up old wounds...
But does Rocky Racoon get a gig?..... any chance he put the lyrics on there?....
It would settle a couple of bets...
Even though I am now a convert...
But just to be sure...
