Thanks for the link Oobu!
Have been taking it in slowly, and for me it is such a treasure! It's like getting a bunch of deluxe albums all at once, with wonderful photos, handwritten lyrics drawings and so many goodies of Paul and the family. So beautifully done. Kudos to the Archive team!!! An absolutely stellar job one and all.
I agree. He could do another 2 book set on his solo career alone!
I was thinking the same thing Oobu.
Did you get the books BJ? They are on Amazon for $60.
Thanks for the tip Oobu. I think my wife is getting it for me for Christmas. She buys from Amazon all the time.

Haven't bought the book yet...
I don't want to open up old wounds...
But does Rocky Racoon get a gig?..... any chance he put the lyrics on there?....
It would settle a couple of bets...
Even though I am now a convert...
But just to be sure...
Hee hee
Yes, Rocky Raccoon is included - page 624---"Now somewhere in the black mountain hills of Dakota..."

Is it hand-written by Paul? Looks like even though I had changed my mind to "mining" I was actually right all those years!

Well, unfortunately, only some handwritten lyrics from different parts of this song are contained in photos of the 2 pages in his notebook, and the mountain hills line is not among them, but, since the "mountain hills" is what was published on page 624, it might be fair to assume that it is the accurate line as far as Paul is concerned.

Thanks, Joyce!... Well, I too was always in the "mountain" camp... but was happy to be corrected... Who knows?... He might've sung the alternative, and very well may have, but the official line will now always be "mountain"..... in writing the book, Paul probably assumed the lyrics were written as originally published.... and didn't even think to question them.... if any one of the team were reading the debates in this forum, they may have thought to clarify it... It will probably still remain a subject of debate....

Strangely, I have a guitar book which says the opening lyrics are:
One Summer in the Black Mountain Hills....
-
I have always heard 'Now somewhere in the black mountain hills of Dakota' and that was the line published way back in 1969 in 'The Beatles Illustrated lyrics' book so I'd be very surprised if he was singing anything different.

This is also what I think. No one on the staff even thought to question it. So it keeps getting perpetuated.

If you Google it, AZ Lyrics says "mountain" and Genius Lyrics says "mining!"

Plus, the lyrics on the back of the poster that came with the album (that Paul helped to create) says "mountain."

That's right but I couldn't find my copy (its in one of my record cases) to check.

Slow it down & you can hear what he says.

You don't even have to slow it down - just put in ear buds or wear headphones when listening to it. It sounds like "mining." I doubt if anyone has ever pointed out the discrepancy to Paul.

The San Francisco Chronicle's movie critic, Mick LaSalle, published an interesting piece about Paul in the Sunday paper. It seems like McCartney's recent film/video projects got LaSalle thinking about him, but the article ends up mostly being about "The Lyrics.

Amazon is sneaky - if you pay $99.97 you can get the book before Christmas. But click on "24 new from $60" and they will get it to you Jan. 4-7 for $60! If I don't get it for Christmas, I'll order it to be delivered in January!

I got the books as a gift and I am enjoying them possible an alphabet or two letters at a time. They would be easy to read more, but I am trying read them to where they are around for another day. ( that is not easy as I want to keep going).

My daughter and son-in-law gave me Amazon gift cards, but Paul's book is temporarily out of stock and is now $65. Will keep checking back.

I got the books as a Christmas present from my wife and I just finished the first book (A-K) a few minutes ago so I figured I would login and post some thoughts. I really have enjoyed the book and the details McCartney includes on each song and the illustrations. He mentions more than the lyrics of the song and includes some musical aspects (exp. chords) of songs. He takes us back to when he was writing these songs and the people he was involved with at the time. There are some cool photos which I am sure NJR (Nancy) will enjoy. I have taken notice of the stuff he has crossed out on handwritten lyrics of some songs in the book. There are some tidbits even the biggest McCartney/Beatle fan may not have known. For example, I did not know McCartney still had his land rover named "Helen Wheels" -lol. The packaging of the books and their covers are nice. There is also a fairly long forward about the books from Paul. If I had to nitpick it would be the selection of some songs that had slight lyrics like "The End". While there is a generous amount of Beatle songs included, Wings/Solo fans will not be disappointed. Some of my favorite parts were on fairly recent songs like "I Don't Know", "Confidante" and "The Kiss Of Venus". I am really looking forward to the 2nd book and probably will start it tomorrow. BTW - I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and I want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year !!!

That Land Rover he has is a 1955 model (same year I was born!)

It was available again on Amazon for $65, so I ordered it using the gift card. Supposed to arrive Jan. 6-8.
