Sorry I hope this is wrong but on another Grammy Site it said that the Foo Fighters have swept the Rock Category Awards. Maybe the death of their drummer Taylor Hawkins was a big factor afterall. I hope this is an incorrect report but it was a headline so it appears that our guy Macca has been "shut out" once again. Foo Fighters wons all the Rock Awards including Rock Song and Rock Album. I like Dave Grohl a lot but I wished Paul would have won one of the Awards.
Show doesn't even start until 8:00
hey Oh Darling...there are a lot of Pre-Award "On-Line" Grammy things going on over the last couple of hours and that was one of the last Grammy Announcements I read. Hope I'm wrong but I don't think it is another April Fools joke. It seemed very official.
It's for the awards they don't want to televise. Can't imagine that rock album of year is among them.
Ok, I stand corrected. Apparently rock is that unpopular.

Once again, Paul does not win and I am bummed. The Foo Fighters won both awards (Best Rock Song & Best Rock Album), This was Paul's last shot at winning after all he is almost 80. It blows my mind that with all the quality albums and songs he has put out in the last 15-20 years he never wins. Oh well.

Hey Yankeefan, I'm locked into the Women's NCAA Finals right now. I wasn't thinking but I should have done a "Spoiler Alert" when I gave away that the Foo Fighters swept the Rock Category.
I haven't watched one second of the Grammys. I'm just so disgusted that Paul didn't win.

"I haven't watched one second of the Grammys. I'm just so disgusted that Paul didn't win."
I am disappointed and disgusted. Paul is never given his due and it is like the academy does not have much respect for his solo work, he is probably just "Beatle Paul". Yes, he can get some nominations but the only time he wins is if he is doing something with another famous person like Kanye/Rhianna or David Grohl. It is absurd to me that he wins with something like "Cut Me Some Slack" which is a glorified jam and he can't win for really good music from "McCartney III" or great music years ago on CHAOS. Let's face it, the win for 45 Seconds" was albout Kanye and Rhianna and Paul was along for the ride. Sometimes I wonder if Paul is partially to blame because he has been so worried about keeping the Beatle legacy that he has allowed people to overlook his solo career and the great music he has produced especially in the last 20 years. This loss is really disappointing to me because this was a solo McCartney effort and this would have put the "cherry" on top of the cake for him to end his career. See PM.

One final post on this subject. I don't think Paul even attended the ceremoney, correct me if I am wrong. That to me is odd since he was nominated twice, maybe he did know the was not going to win -lol. I get he was not asked to perform because they had lined up the Foo Fighters for the "Rock" awards, sadly they had to cancel. That being said, I don't remember Paul not attending if he was nominated.
I understand many people think the Grammys are not important because their voting over the years has been not always great. That being said, they are important in a way because they are a historical record of achievement in the musical industry. The Beatles are such a musical and cultural icons they can be overlooked and don't need awards to always be remembered as great recording and songwriting artists. IMO these awards are more important for the solo career of Paul McCartney because he is for the most part overlooked by many people for his days after the Beatles. He does not have things like massive chart success to show he was great solo artist so a few Grammy wins on his own would help his non Beatle legacy. I discount him winning awards with other artists because those songs were about other artists more than Paul especially since they are the more popular artists to the Grammy award academy.
It is funny that years ago older artists like Bob Dylan and Tom Petty won major Grammy awards and people were saying a lot of it was due to sentiment due to their age. I guess Paul never got that "sentiment" vote from the Grammy voters -lol.

Of course it's his own fault. Some Beatles fans don't know any of his solo work. If he promoted it in concerts maybe they would. Some fans at a soundcheck that I attended did not know any of the solo songs.

I have a tough time watching this and any type of award shows. In today's world, I will watch a YouTube or highlight thing that takes a few minutes. In the past I watched most for a just in case there was a surprise moment.
So I can fast forward and see 5 seconds of this year's show. -
Paul McCartney is one of the greatest songwriters/composers that ever lived. People will be listening to his music 100 years from now. Who cares about the Grammys? (though I did want him to win).
-
One day in the future when he is not here, there will be a time capsule of all his songs and achievements, they will show on the big screen at the award show or do a bunch of bad covers and someone's long winded speech as some might think, why didn't we do anything when he was here? Mostly the committee will pat themselves on the back for having all the footage of film.

Sorry, but the Grammy voters made the right choice this year. There are lots of prior years when Paul should have won, but this year was not one of them.

You know it is kind of funny that I read several news publications and they predicted the Foo Fighters would win but they said Paul should win. I really like the Foo Fighters and to be honest this was not one of my favorite albums from them. Oh well -lol.

Time capsule of his songs would probably end with BOTR and the 50 years after that album would be ignored -lol

As I said in another post, the Grammys whether we like them or not are a historical record of achievement. Paul's legacy with the Beatles obviously does not need a Grammy to help justify his greatness. The problem IMO is when it comes to his solo career there is not much to point to for future generations because with rare exception his albums/singles did not sell that well after Wings. A few Grammy wins would have at least highlighted Paul was more than just a Beatle and leader of Wings. There is no doubt in my mind that Paul's 50 years of music after Wings will be ignored and what a shame that is IMO.

I was trying to be nice but you are 100% correct IMO. Paul rarely played solo songs that were not his most current album in his shows. Incredibly, he did not sell his solo albums at the concerts. In interviews, he pounces on anything that can help him talk about the Beatles or John again and ignore his solo work. When he plays a solo song in concert, he never really gives it a proper introduction like a Beatle song. The best you may get from him is a quick comment like "this is a new song" or "this one is for the Wings fans" -lol

Just one more addition to the Chris Rock/Will Smith fight at the Oscar's last night. I give Will Smith a lot of credit. When he won an Award last night after he lost his cool with Chris Rock which happened earlier in the night, I think Will Smith deserves a lot of credit for apologizing to the Academy and to the other Oscar nominees for his outburst.
I was praying for Paul to win.
I also give Will Smith a lot of credit for his apology.
Aparently this is not the first time Chris Rock has swung a verbal punch in Will Smith's direction. It reminded me of Donald Trump and all the times he has flung nasty comments to men about their wives and then his, my wife is a "10. In my opinion, it's so tasteless and crass, especially considering that Jada has suffered from Alopecia for years which leaves bald spots on your head, as big clumps of hair can just fall out. Just a mean spirited jab at Will, using his hair compromised wife as a target. In my opinion, any comedian who has to use someone with a handicap or a woman or child to get a laugh, is really low. Will Smith on the other hand, was standing up for his wife's honor. Did you see Jada's face when Chris first said it? She was visibly startled. Sad that so many can't even understand that men should be defending their wives honor, in this instance. What happened, is Chivalry dead in this country or are women expected to get up and slap the dude who insults them themselves? -

What happened, is Chivalry dead in this country or are women expected to get up and slap the dude who insults them themselves?None of that should have happened. It was inexcusable; two men out of conrol. All of it. There is a time and place for everything. The Oscars was not that place. The reaction was excesive. Regarding Paul and the Emmys, I was hoping he would win. He deserved to win, not just because he's who he is and is getting old so his time is limited for such awards. I personally believe a great number of those who vote are not really aware of what they are voting for; they are not familiar because they haven't listened to all of the music in a category. They vote based on what and who they have come to believe are what they are supposed to do. It's sorta like, "Oh, the Foo Fighters are in this? Oh, we know they are the top rated rock band in the country, so we have to vote for them and their album and whatever song they have nominated." Just my opinion.

The man who lets his wife have sex with other men needs to defend her honor in regards to a joke - lol. I love how people assume that everyone is aware of Jada Pinkett-Smith's medical conditions, she and Will need to get over themselves. Did you notice that Will laughed at the joke ? Only when he saw her reaction did he get upset. Maybe her reaction was due to her husband laughing at the joke. Finally, you do not resort to violence over a joke no matter how tasteless. As I said before, the adult reaction would have been to maybe frown at the joke and then after the ceremony have you agent craft a statement saying you did not appreciate the joke especially due to her medical condition. BTW - the original "GI Jane" was Demi Moore who was quite an attractive woman so being compared to her is not too bad IMO -lol.

From what I've read that Will said, "the goal is not a sexual goal. It’s spiritual. We are going to love each other no matter what."
When it's at a spiritual level like that, many people are just not going to understand it.
Will to Oprah on his relationship
As far as Chris Rock and Will's issues, there has been another joke involving Jada in the past. In addition, there was a third issue with Will's first wife too. This is a pattern on Chris Rocks part. He seems to have issues with Will's wifes and their spiritual relationships with Will.
Chris has joked previously about Jada and Will’s 1st wife too

And then that terrible shouting & swearing from his seat? Where the hell did he think he was? And let's not forget he actually laughed at the joke to begin with. Not everyone is aware of Jada's alopecia. Heck, she looks like her daughter.

I can see your point but I think a bit differently. 100 years from now, people will listen to his solo work without all the baggage that he has to deal with the past 50 years. Someone will listen to Tug of War, Chaos or Electric Arguments or Egpyt Station and just say what great songs are on these albums. In the 1980s, McCartney was so uncool but today, he is more accepted. Part of that is because all the nonsense that went down after the Beatles break up and how he was painted by the music press. But young people today don't care about that. My nephews are in their 30s and they used to make fun of my love of Paul but now they are asking me about solo Paul as in different times I have sent them something from Flaming Pie or Chaos or Egypt Station. I think in 100 years, they will listen to Calico Skies (for example) and think it is as good as something on the White Album and they won't care that it was not a Beatles song. Instead, a McCartney song will be a McCartney song. I least I hope that is the case. Of course, Paul even ignores the past 42 years since Wings broke up but I think that 100 years, people will listen to the Beatles and will discover solo Paul without the baggage of being an ex-Beatle.
