New album by Ringo, titled Postcards from Paradise

Don't have the link, but All Music have a review of the album and have given it a 4 (of 5) rating. Quite a positive review, so first single aside there is cause for optimism.

I don't trust that review for it didn't express how crappy the single is lol

There's a lyric video up on Facebook now so I finally listened to this "song"/ I've always been one to defend Ringo's solo efforts, but this is definitely the worst title track since I've been a fan. Liverpool 8 was nice, Y Not? was cute but strange...and then there's this. This might be the worst title track of his career actually. Only counting "Ringo originals" we've got... 1981- Stop and Smell the Roses 1998- Veritcal Man 2005- Choose Love 2008- Liverpool 8 2010- Y Not? 2015- Postcards From Paradise ...yeah, I'd put this at the bottom of the list.

Here's the review, in case you're interested: http://www.allmusic.com/album/postcards-from-paradise-mw0002824156 It says "the record veers closer to the woozy good times of Goodnight Vienna than the going-through-the-motions shrug of Y Not." The fact that Todd Rundgren is on it is definitely a good thing in my book, but the review implies that he co-wrote the title track! Not sure if that's true, but I kind of hope not. The review lists the players as: Todd Rundgren, Steve Lukather, Richard Page, Gregg Rolie, Gregg Bissonette, Warren Ham, David Stewart, Joe Walsh, Richard Marx, Van Dyke Parks, Gary Burr, Glen Ballard, and Gary Nicholson.

Interesting. The reviewer must be a huge Ringo fan. I couldnt bare listening to the title track & believe it came from a Beatle. I cant imagine what Rory & the Hurricanes lyrics will look like.

To be honest, I'm not a big "Goodnight Vienna" fan myself.

Heard the 3 songs that were posted on youtube and they all pale when compared to albums from the previous decade.

I heard "Not Looking Back" and it was a likeable song to my ears. I wouldn't mind Ringo doing something a little more experimental but he seems happy to do this kind of well structured pop and rock songs and I find it enjoyable.

It all sounds kind of blah to me so far. Not terrible, just not very interesting.

It seems THIS may be the actual cover, but either way, I think it's unwise as an image and a title. Unless you're Jimmy Buffett or Jack Johnson, these tropical images just project a sense that you just goofed around by the beach with some friends and didn't really get down to business. This kind of image sure didn't work for Kings Of Leon or Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and I don't think it'll work for Ringo either. If he's got a killer single coming, that could overcome it, but I'm not too hopeful, I'm afraid. I will still buy it, of course!
That is the cover of the new album. According to Beatlefan mag, the album is sort of typical Ringo, some nice songs, tasty guitars here and there, etc.,....but no one song catchy enough to linger in your mind or become a hit single. In other words, the album is not unlike the past several Ringo albums. Oops, in later posts, you already know all about the album. I'm not saying anything you don't already know. Never mind! ops:

If you've followed Ringo's modern albums since '92 you sorta know what you are going to get in this album. Last album was more along the lines of an EP with a couple of covers and a remake. The album is going to be a pleasant listen but it will come down to people wanting to repeat listen or not. It's another typical pages in the Ringo book.

Ringo just posted the links to Postcards From Paradise, Not Looking Back, and Right Side of The Road. My sentiments remain the same for the title track even after a second listen. Not Looking Back is a nice track...although I find it pretty ironic that he's included a song of this content on an album where the title track is built entirely off of songs that are fifty years old. Right Side of The Road is about as stupid as they come...

Just listened to the new songs posted. I am excited about this release. The laidback groove, good time feel and vibe sounds like "Goodnight Vienna meets Time Takes Time". Well done!!!
-
Actually, Time Takes Time didn't have the same chord progression on every song

Then I'll take another Jeff Lynne produced album then!! Sign me up for the 2017 record with him!

I'm getting a little bored of the Macca/Kanye saturation of 2015; aside from the Destiny LP release of Hope for the Future - Ringo's new album is probably the most exciting new album release by one of the members. It's almost refreshing, this year so far, to see a Beatle collaborate with guitar musicians. Yes - the lyrics aren't anything to ride home about but neither is the Kanye songs. I suppose my point is Ringo is a rock musician with country-ish tendencies at times ROOTED in the genre is good at. I'll be enjoying it as a lover of rock and as a musician. I think Paul is too bored with Rock; perhaps he needed another genre to re-invent himself again in the genre Ringo never wanted to side step from.
-
I assume you meant the lyrics aren't anything to write home about.

Ringo's music is enjoyable to me. I listen to interviews with him and he has a wit and an imagination, but perhaps not the songwriting talent of McCartney to make it flourish in every genre there is. I think Ringo is first and foremost a drummer, but that he has had a solo career after The Beatles says a lot about his talents. How many drummers are successful without a band? Phil Collins, Ringo...
