B J Conlee:
Just read the reviews from the 2 big Toronto papers. Both couldn't say enough about the quality of the show and Macca's stamina ...41 songs, 3 hours. I am surprised about the lack of knowledge of the music writers covering the show particularly the Toronto Star. The writer said that McCartney delivered a few surprises: Let Me Roll It Helter Skelter 1985 and the "newer" Temporary Secretary". I guess the writer did not know that Temporary Secretary is 35 years old and that Paul has been playing Let Me Roll It and Helter Skelter forever. With knowledge like this, no wonder Macca doesn't get any criticism for his setlist.
"With knowledge like this, no wonder Macca doesn't get any criticism for his setlist." The criticism has not been harsh but there has been subtle digs in NY concert reviews that his setlist has very little after 1980.

______________________________________________________ Yankeefan, I was not surprised at all with the mistakes and lack of knowledge from the State College PA reviewer (very small market) but to see these kind of inaccuracies in a market as big as Toronto was somewhat shocking to me. Usually in the bigger markets, even if the reviewer/critic doesn't like Paul (and you can usually tell) they do know his music and his touring tendencies.

[..] Curious, what was the crowd reaction to "45sec" song? Always hear how Mr. McCartney always wants to please the crowd which is why he does not play more of his solo songs, can't imagine the crowd really knowing "45sec" song.
The crowd not being familiar with a worldwide million seller and radio A-rotation song ? 235 million streams on Spotify alone. (I know his crowd isn't the Spotify crowd, so this is simply an interesting side note: this track is 10 months old, the third fastest track to ever hit 100+ million plays, and McCartney's second most played song on Spotify is a live version of 'Live And Let Die': a mere 12 million.)
Indeed: but it can be argued the over 50's demographic, of which there are tishloads at a McCartney concert would have NFI of the song. Those of us here do, but the majority of over 50's CASUAL fans would not.

At the State College show introducing "Temporary Secretary" Paul did call it a newer song
-
Checkin' out some of the YouTube videos. Some really good uploads quality-wise. Paul does indeed sound very good for 2015...especially compared to his voice during the Summer leg of "Out There" earlier this year. Probably the best, vocally, that I've heard of "Another Girl" since he started doing it and "Got To Get You Into My Life" since it came back. Very happy to see/hear "Mull of Kintyre" after its 2-year hiatus. Good gig!

Technically it is newer than any Beatles song.

"Usually in the bigger markets, even if the reviewer/critic doesn't like Paul (and you can usually tell) they do know his music and his touring tendencies" It is typical journalism today, nobody does the research or actually fact checks. To be honest with you, I can't really ever remember reading a "bad" review of a McCartney concert. They just love seeing a Beatle, they are amazed at how long he plays (it is amazing IMO) and they eat up the stories which are pretty good unless you have heard them 5-6 times already. Once in awhile they will mention that his voice was a bit hoarse but they will follow that up with something like he sounds great for someone in his 70's. To most reviewers, if he does anything that is not a Beatle song they are happily surprised.

"Another Girl" / "Hi, Hi, Hi"

GTGYIMLYeah!!! These are both the best I've heard him do in 2015. Japan 2013's "1985" had a killer scream at the end, but this is right up there with it. The man's still got it.

Thanks fellas for the links. Appreciated.

I have to say, the U.S. Tour this summer was a bit scary- he looked tired and his voice was clearly strained. However, Paul looks re-energized and sounds very good, one of his best vocal outings of 2015 last night in Toronto. His best of 2015? Probably Budokan. Will be interesting to see how 2016 will play out.

Sorry, "Maybe I'm Amazed" is just not sung well anymore.

It was sound checked
In front of those who paid for the Hot Sound package?
Carlos, not sure. I didn't have a soundcheck package. Paul arrived late, but I could hear the band and Pipe Band rehearsing occasionally, while I waited. As a result of Paul being late the soundcheck went on later. The arena doors opened while the soundcheck was still going on, but we weren't allowed to ours seats until the sound check was done. Mainly they were working Mull of Kintyre

I honestly do not know what they put in the water tonight in Toronto. Paul and his voice and energy level was like a throwback to several years ago. Maybe the best concert I have seen him perform in the past three years. Tons of audience interaction, multiple fans brought on stage. Mull and the bagpipes also... Yeah, he stuck to the same game plan, no other surprises than MULL, but his voice was strong and the audience was hot..... Glad I was out there!
I agree he sound excellent on Saturday night. I was impressed. It was a better than usual

I haven't read the reviews, but Paul did say after Temporary Secretary that it was one of newer compositions in comparison to 8 Days and Got Get You Into My Life which were played previously . Not all the reviewers fault.

The best Paul McCartney show that I've seen. He's such a great entertainer.
-
All in all a very good show. Paul seemed to have a lot of energy and was having a good time rocking Toronto. He played a full version 45 seconds and that was good. To me, vocally, not his best song of the night, but nice to hear live. He introduced it by saying that he had collaborated on the next song with Kayne. And added very sarcastically, it seemed to me, 'that was fun.' I finally got to hear One after 909, and I've Just Seen Face live. I missed those from previous setlists. Another Girl was a nice addition. I've never liked Temporay Secretary but it was good performance. Paul starting singing in the wrong spot, but the band played on and cycled back to the start. Got To Get You Into My Life sounded excellent live, but I do miss Jet and Juniors Farm at this point in the setlist. It was nice to hear the 'New' songs live, and got a good response. Everybody Out There should be in the show As for Mull of Kintyre ... it is a better song live for me than on record. It's very impressive to hear a Pipe band and Paul live. There is no way to do this song justice without a Pipe Band. I'm shuffling off to Buffalo on Thursday for a repeat

If they opened the arena doors, then the paid soundcheckers were gone. I have never seen Mull at the two Canadian soundchecks I have attended. They always waited until after we were taken out of the arena to begin practicing it. We could hear it! but it was not done as part of the "regular" soundcheck set. Glad you had a great show in Toronto, everyone!!!
