Very interesting to hear Paul give his thoughts in 1968. The announcer basically insults him by saying people were expecting a "step up" from Pepper! Paul seems a bit testy/defensive when he talks about John songs . You could feel the tension starting to emerge. For those who argue what is 'Martha My Dear' about, Paul settles the debate once and for all.

Paul just should have just said...Pepper was Pepper. We did that. We don't repeat ourselves. We want to keep going, stepping in different directions. Period. Never get defensive with jerks. It just encourages them. Dismiss them out of hand.

I think he was being respectful by saying he wouldn't comment much on what John was thinking when John wrote the songs John authored. I was impressed by what he kept saying about how he wrote lots of the songs he/they wrote--that ideas just flowed into their heads and they wrote them down.

I agree. I didn't think he was testy or defensive.
