Boxed set of Japanese Beatles albums on CD
-
Similar to the idea of the U.S. Beatles albums boxed set earlier this year, they're doing one for Japan, with 5 CDs: "Meet The Beatles" in mono "The Beatles' Second Album" in mono "A Hard Day's Night" in stereo "Beatles no. 5" in mono "Help! in stereo" The two movie soundtracks are the same track listing as the British releases, but the others are unique to Japan. Their "Meet The Beatles" is almost like an early greatest hits! http://wogew.blogspot.com/2014/04/beatles-cd-boxed-set-for-japan.html

I can't understand why the record company released totally different versions of the albums in the UK, US, and Japan. Looks like it will be a pricey set, but interesting I guess nonetheless. Too bad they are not releasing a complete set of Japanese albums with the obi's and a nice box and booklet. I'm curious what others think.

I guess the labels in each country had different ideas about how to catch up with the Beatles' catalog when they suddenly became popular.

going to look into this later

Anyone know where this can be pre-ordered or ordered from?

I think they are all merely draining our pockets. The US Albums box is 95% UK 2009 remstered mixes, in glossy packaging. The same goes for the new endorsed Japan Box - they are going to use 2009 UK remasters again. Wait till someone hits upon thegreat idea of releasing an Aussie box, South African, Indian, and so on and so forth. All of them using the same 2009 remastered UK mixes. You only pay for new packaging. If you don't care about the shiny booklet you can easily compile any Japanese or US albums yourself at home using the 2009 UK remastered mixes. Cheers!

i saw these at a indie store the other day and they were going high as $130.00 dollars yikes almost not that bad but still yikes

That price is not very good ! I just got my pre-order from Amazon the other day and the price they charged me was $80-something ... Beautifully executed though I haven't had the time to open the box yet. Looks beautiful--better than the US sets. It's Odeon/Apple.

I just discovered this today at my local HMV store in Crawley, UK> Must say It took by surprise because I don't recall any announcement about this, and I do receive the Beatles emails that usually annouce new releases. I had a look at it and it's nice, a box set in the same vain as the Mono Masters and US albums, but much thinner. Would look good to complete the collection but probably not too essential. £85 in HMV but £65 on amazon. Hmmmm.

Yes Amazon seems to have dropped the price quite nicely--I pre-ordered the set before it was available and it was $118.98 and the shipped price was $83.29...quite a nice surprise. The $83 price is much more realistic as far as I'm concerned. The set looks quite nicely done.

For whatever reason, releases in Japan seemed to be "treated better" and sounded better; richer. I could be mistaken, but I believe I heard "I Want You (She's So Heavy), the version from Abbey Road released in Japan, and it faded out....rather than having the abrupt ending we are used to....guess that's what they thought would work better there. Or I could be wrong on this and only imagined I heard it that way once....when in Japan on business.
