        KingMacca:

No pyro and no rising stage.

Flames at the back of the stage for Live + Let Die, so partial pyro.

Great set list. A lot of fat cut off. He should tour with this set list, strip down his staging, focus on the music, rotate songs, and charge less.

I would be thoroughly disappointed if it came to this, and he were still charging triple digits (or quadruple)! What else happened at this event that caused the set to be so short?

How long does this shortened setlist take? Did they sell soundcheck tickets?

I understand it's a benefit and all, but it is kind of illogical to say "For $300 you get 38 songs, but for $3500 you get 29 songs."

Because most of the attendees were/are wealthy people who wanted to support a charity and a new venue. Of course, there are exceptions but I bet the majority of the attendees were not hardcore fans or fans who would typically attend a McCartney concert.

No soundcheck tickets. Show was about 2 hours and 10 minutes. DJ played from 7:30 until nearly 8 pm. No video screens at the side so they just played the music that goes with the preshow movie until around 8:20 when Paul came out. There was the giant screen at the back of the stage so all of the usual graphics shown there were displayed. As soon as he finished Let Me Roll It, he went to the piano and told the Hendrix story from up there; that's when the setlist cutting first became noticeable. Live and Let Die used no flashpots at the front of the stage, just the big orange flames that go up behind Paul and the band. Still plenty of pyro for a small theatre. Correct - Something was played but not Here Today. No rising platform so Paul just performed Blackbird at his usual mic. Many people with floor seats were sitting at the beginning of the show (yes even when he walked out); some of them stood and applauded in between songs but then sat. I think Paul felt like he had to get every one of those people up and out of their seats by the end of the show, and he did succeed, he was quite pleased by the end of the concert. They were a VERY good sing-a-long audience, however. He said being in the theatre he felt like he should be reciting Shakespeare. Crowd egged him on, he said "it's tempting," and then begin to recite "oh if this too, too solid flesh should melt" and then something else which I personally could not hear due to people in the crowd yelling. No tattoos. 😉 and there were definitely a few "hard core" fans in attendance. It's a beautiful theatre and it was a wonderful show.

                          No "ZAP!"?

Glad you all enjoyed it. I'm also glad I didn't go -- not because it wasn't a great show, but the combination of a *shortened* performance and the extra expense would've left me a little bummed, particularly with New Orleans around the corner... [/url]

Well, the band had to take a bus ride from San Antonio to Lubbock overnight so perhaps truncating the setlist was in the interest of making that trip in a timely fashion? I 35 is stacked traffic from here to Waco even at night now.

He never does a full show for a benefit. That should be no surprise to anyone. The fact that he showed up and did it and raised a ton of money for the cause is enough.

I think McCartney fans may not realize quite what they are treated to. 2 hr 10 min is a full show for anyone but McCartney. In the last 5 years the only shows I have seen the headliner go longer than that is McCartney (I know Springsteen does as well, but I haven't seen him recently). This was not, nor was it ever advertised as an Out There tour date. It was not available through normal tcket buying services. it was a one off benefit concert. It actually went longer than I expected - I was guessing it would go 90 minutes. I was also pleasantly surprised to see they could use the backscreen, I expected no visuals, just the band and their amps/instruments. The higher prices that were charged are not surprising, nor out of line imo due to it being a benefit and also due to the fact you are paying more for a close seat. With only 1,700 seats, this is a very small facility compared to the 15-20K seat arenas and 40K seat stadiums. Basically everyone is getting a close seat in an acoustically superior setting. If I lived there and could afford it I would have definately bought tickets. The fact that McCartney gives the fans close to 3 hour shows is a huge gift. I haven't seen any other act recently do more than 2 hours and I Have seen multiple acts who did somewhere between 1 1/2 and 1 3/4 hours. He is performing almost a double length show compared to many acts. RamblinRed

50 music students and 60 wounded warriors and their families were donated seats . I sat behind the music students from my alma mater UTSA and they were goin nuts! I saw many of the soldiers too. The crowd was more diverse than you may think, but of course Paul has a way of democratizing things
