LEAVE MY KITTEN ALONE!

You Can't Do That was considered too "dark" so was cut. I love that song though!!
There was also footage for Things We Said Today that was never used in the film. I think the original videotape release in 1982 had the montage. Don't know why it didn't make the Miramax DVD extras.

Slightly off topic but Beatles for Sale suffered slightly from a burn out which is understandable considering the year of 1964. I would have put Kitten in place of Kansas City/Hey Hey in my opinion
I like Kansas City. I once read Paul say that John taught him how to scream for that piece but he never elaborated. That got my mind working.

It is a pretty dark song. I recently keep getting it stuck in my head.

I can only imagine!

Regaqrding "Mr. Moonlight:" That song sounded like the perfect tune to be heard in a roller-skating rink.

WHAT? Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey Hey is a fantastic vocal. Why would you pull that one off the album when you could remove the lethargic Honey Don't or the equally mediocre Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby. Sorry Ringo and George, but neither one of those covers stands out in any way. Whereas Paul sings the sh-t out of Kansas City/Hey etc, and John does the same with Kitten and with Mr. Moonlight.

I agree Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey Hey is a great cover by Paul. I great vocal performance as well.

Great cover track. Wish it was on Beatles for Sale instead of Mr. Moonlight.
True, but Lennon does a great vocal on "Mr. Moonlight" and he obviously loved to sing it, so.... There would have been room for both, actually. I wish they had recorded a studio version of "Dose of Rythm and Blues." Lennon's blow-torch vocal on that one on Anthology...(or is it "Live at the BBC"?) is one I would have loved to hear on a proper album.
I agree, "A Shot of Rhythm and Blues" is so great and catchy, it should've been released on an album.
-
Don't get me wrong its a great song/combination but I've always felt it wasn't recorded correctly. I've never really liked the end product. I've always felt Paul's vocal is kind of "suppressed" or restrained in the mix.
-
Love Kansas City, not a huge fan of 'Shot of Rhythm & Blues'. Here's one I LOVE, and there's actual footage of it!! Some Other Guy. John and Paul singing lead together, but John is boosting the song vocally.
I watch that and understand what John was saying that the energy of the Beatles had been lost by the time they hit America. especially looking at John in the Some Other Guy clip.. check his look around 1:05-10.. he's like 'you damn right' whoa whoa whoa whoa. they were looking to stick it to peeps, banging out those tunes better than they'd ever been done before. such a cool clip of the early line up too. thats about a week after Ringo joined the group. John and Paul kick ass. I think I might be the first to ever make that observation enjoy the night. whoa whoa whoa whoa. -
Costello did a brilliant studio take on the song in 1986, I can't find a link to that particular rendition, all the live versions are inferior. But the studio version gives Lennon's take a run for it's money.

Would love to hear that ARC. I'm not a huge Costello fan, but he's passionate. Here's one of the live versions you mentioned
Thanks for the heads up on it my friend -
I love that clip of Some Other Guy! They were so young! Paul (sweating away as per usual!) was only 20!

Has any journalist ever asked Paul to talk about this? I mean, of course, his tendency to sweat excessively on stage. Seriously, he wins the award for Sweatiest Beatle and Sweatiest Wing. I remember seeing some video of him performing --- not sure if it was in the late 70s or early 90s -- where he is just absolutely soaked. His hair is drenched and looks like he just stepped out of the shower. What is up with that? Enquiring minds want to know.

That's probably the one question he's never been asked! Funny story--today I had a patient in the O.R. who was awake and only sedated and was given local anethesia to numb the surgical site. When we were done I thought his IV site was leaking because the padding we had used around his hand was soaked!! It was sweat!

Thats funny, good for you Nancy! I have great respect for all you in the medical profession on the other hand I never thought Paul sweated a particularly lot?.. never would have thought that. you guys/gals got any good pics of a sweaty Paul? I'd say he sweats about the normal amount. very interesting the things we notice about our heros

Thanks kapoo! Check out the Shea Stadium footage--Paul is drenched! When I saw this English Beatles tribute band (Meet the Beatles) at Abbey Road on the River, for one show they wore the Shea outfits. It was so hot (outdoor show) and afterwards I talked to them--the Paul guy showed me that he had sweated through his shirt and jacket too!

too true. probably was their main goal in writing it! (actually John was probably just trying to write in the style of someone else.. they did that a lot on the early stuff) but man the ladies loved it you're too funny Nancy.
