Beatles channel to debut on Sirius/XM

For various reasons (one of them an old car that doesn't have Sirius/XM installed :lol
, I mostly listen online. Wasn't able to do much until late last night; I heard a nice mix of Beatles songs with a Ringo song from "Rotogravure" snuck in between. Happy that they have their own channel.

A few posts back I said that I'm liking the new Beatles' channel on Sirius. Let me just adjust my opinion...I'M LOVING THIS CHANNEL. I especially like the diversity in the songs that they are playing. Not just the "hits" that let's face it have been overplayed over the years. They are playing Solo songs from all 4 Beatles, "rare" versions of even the most "known" songs and they are playing the "deep" cuts. Whoever is controlling the playlist is doing a FAB just (excuse the pun). This morning I was about to go into Walmart to get something I needed and all of a sudden I heard one of my favorite deep Beatle cuts ever. I think the song except for "Covers version" was unreleased by the Beatles until Live at the BBC. The song is "I'LL BE ON MY WAY". It was a very early Macca song (John admitted it) and it was covered by Billy J. Kramer (their b-side of Do You Want to Know a Secret, another L&M song). Later it was covered reggae style by UB40. Such a happy melody that I had to wait to hear it in full before I made my way into Walmart. I was still humming the song an hour later. That is why Paul McCartney is a genius. I know some of the lyrics are goofy but man what a melody. Just a few of the lyrics below. I dare you to read these words without breaking into song. I know I have posted this before but years ago I used to listen to a local radio station that did an acoustic hour every Sunday morning. One of the highlights was they played an acoustic version of John Lennon doing "Imagine" which was really cool.

I'm hearing alot of Ringo solo stuff. I was shocked to hear a song off Old Wave today. Im glad there are doing all the solo stuff rather than key stuff.

I was also able to tune into the station today. It does a GREAT job mixing in the hits with the rarities, as has been mentioned before. Looking forward to also hearing the "mini concerts" and other station features that had been described in the press release. A very nice, comprehensive, all-inclusive Beatles station! -Rubber Soul13

Besides the other music channels, it gives you local weather, traffic etc. No matter what side of the political spectrum you are on, they have the news and cable channels too. If you are watching one of the cable channels and you like a particular guest but have to go on an errand, you can continue to hear the channel. They also have comedians and comedy channels. One o f their big signings early on was Howard Stern. I have always had the 60's channel (channel 6) as one of my favorites. One thing I like is hearing a song I loved from a one hit wonder. Recently I heard Down on the Boondocks by Billy Joe Royal. Then you hear an established artist but a song that you totally forgot about. Recently, I remember hearing Wishing and Hoping by Dusty Springfield. It is those kind of songs that are so special about this station. Now that they have the Beatles station, it is a perfect time to join. So far it is the best Beatles channel I've heard anywhere because of the variety. To give you an idea, yesterday morningI heard "Broomstick" one of Paul's b-sides. Certainly not a great Paul song but to hear it on the radio kind of shocked me. It was done during the Flaming Pie period and Paul did it with Steve Miller.

I love Broomstick & have for a long time. Much more than a song you posted earlier...I'll Be On My Way. haha. But I'm not in the car enough w/o something to listen to, to justify paying for radio. Although I am going to get a new car soon so it will no doubt come with it. I just found out recently there is a new channel (for oldies) that goes along with ME TV. It's me tvfm 87.7. By looking this up just now...it's also on FB. And it's even on cable tv that I am already paying too much for.

Zero interest in Sirius. I have my own collection of official and boots and Sirius can't tell me anything I don't already know. So there!

Like most of us, I'm not in the car all the time so I'm only catching bits and pieces. This morning around 9:45 on the way to do an errand, I was of course listening to channel 18 on Sirius. They had Peter Asher as the special guest. For those who might not know, Peter Asher was the other half of Peter and Gordon, a fairly big pop musical duo that hit the US as part of the British Invasion in 1964. Sadly Gordon Waller passed away a few years ago. Peter was asked about his relationship with Paul McCartney and the songs that Peter and Gordon were able to secure from Paul. It was fascinating talk radio. I had heard or read about these stories before but this was from the horses mouth so to speak. They were talking about World Without Love, the 1st #1 hit in the US for Peter and Gordon written by Paul. Peter mentioned that Paul had given him a tape of the song earlier but it wasn't finished, It needed a bridge. Peter Asher no doubt had a great ear for Pop music (he later became an award winner Producer from Linda Ronstadt and James Taylor) and he saw something in the song. A few months later Peter saw Paul again and asked him about "World Without Love". Paul told him that he and John had done nothing with it. Peter told him that he (and Gordon) would love to record it but it needed a bridge. Paul then later finished the bridge and the rest is history...#1 hit for Peter and Gordon. Later Paul gave them another song "Nobody I know" which was also a hit which Sirius immediately played to finish the discussion. Just think if Peter Asher hadn't seen the song's potential it might had never been done and recorded. Just fascinating stuff on the Sirius Beatle station in my opinion.
