Beatles Tribute Bands
-
I've seen Beatlemania and 1964...maybe one more, I can't recall. I believe it was Beatlemania that I saw on a cruise ship and I thought they were great...they were my first Beatles tribute band. After seeing them perform early one evening I later went to see another show on the cruise, it might have been a comedian. I went to the theatre early to get good seats and eventually I could hear the voices of several men sitting directly behind me. They seemed to float in and out of a British accent in a very familiar way. I slowly looked around and there they were, the fake Beatles. It was still very thrilling despite the fact that they were not authentic...after all, I had within the same evening seen them perform all of the great Beatles hits in a very fine way.

ISawPaulinJuly2013:
I've seen 1964: The Tribute, another band I don't remember the name of, and RAIN Beatles Tribute twice. RAIN is the best I've seen plus the show is pretty great. Also a man who goes by the of Imagine John does a great job of John's solo years.
Tim Piper does the Imagine show. I've been on 2 cruises with him as a performer, and also the Cancun thing this past Feb. for the Beatles' 50th Anniversary. Rain is shite compared to The Fab Four! Most of the time Rain has a right-handed Paul & that's just wrong!

You will love them - they are the best! My daughter and I are going to see a Griffin, Georgia tribute band called The Return tomorrow afternoon. I've known the "George" since 1995 when he was 17! (He's the only original member - they used to be called The Roaches then)

The Cavern Club Beatles are fantastic. Getting to watch them in the club itself is really special - I'd go and see them every weekend if I could!

Wow...he really has "the look". I wonder if people notice when he walks down the street? Or maybe the pic is at just the right angle.

Just saw The Fab Four from the front row of the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. Fantastic show!

Going to see 1964: The Tribute on April 7th. Front and center, 3rd row, in Marietta, GA.

Taken by me of my mom (86 at the time on Apr. 1, 2017) with The Return. Have known the George (next to her left) and the Ringo (our far left) since 1996 when they were 19 and I was 41. They both turn 41 this year!!

Last Month (April 28, 2018) when I was visiting my Sister and Brother-in-Law in Atlantic City, we went to a Beatles' Tribute Concert at one of the Casinos...Resorts right on the Boardwalk.
While I had been to quite a few Beatles' tribute shows over the years (including Abbey Road on the River festival in Lousiville KY full of Tribute bands), this was a total surprise one at the last minute where the tickets were free from a friend of my sister's. I certainly had nothing to lose at that price.
The group was called the MAHONEY BROTHERS and their 2018 show was called "The Beatles and Beyond". As what often happens in life it was one of those "spontaneous" moments where something great happens that was totally unplanned.
What made this specific show so good was the "Brothers' setlist and their premise. They based their show on what a "reunion" Beatles' Concert circa 1978 or 1979 might have looked like. Besides doing Beatle songs from their heyday (and not always the obvious ones like Yesterday and Hey Jude) they also performed Post Beatles' songs from each member. I'm sure that the individual Beatles' would have wanted a reunion show where each one would have sung lead on a few of their solo songs. These, of course, would have been songs that they had never performed live as a group.
On top of the fact that it was a "live" performance and they were very good, I loved the fact that I heard songs that I had never heard (or rarely heard) live prior to this show. They basically did 3-4 Solo songs from each Beatle. All in all, it was a great show and one that I would strongly recommend if the Mahoney Brothera visited your local area. By the way, the Band members are actually 3 Brothers and a son of one of the brothers. The 3 brothers played Paul, John and Ringo. They had a separate member playing George and the one son was sort of a "Wix" type member playing varous instruments.
The only down side is that because they were playing at a Casino the overall show was probably shortened where they didn' have an encore since the Casinos want their audience most and all to be gambling at their tables and slots. This is another reason why their normal shows would actually be better if you got another 3-4 songs. They played for a little over an hour.
Some of my favorite songs by memory were:
*Photograph - one of Ringo songs and it sounded great
*It Don't Come Easy - ditto
*Watching the Wheels - the Mahoney Brother who played John had a great "John" voice and this was great
*Imagine - ditto; as much as this song has been played on the radio, this was also a great performance by the singer
*Venus and Mars/Rock Show/Jet - this medley started the show so you knew you were going to get "Solo" songs and not just the typical Beatle hits
*Maybe I'm Amazed
*What is Life - Never heard this great George song live and they actually ended the show with this one
Other Beatle songs I liked because they weren't the obvious big hits were:
*While My Guitar Gently Weeps - great guitar work
* Hey Bulldog
* Here Comes the Sun
* Abbey Road Medley starting with "She Came into the Bathroom Window".
*Day in the Life
As I said, it was a great spontaneous night where I didn't know what to expect. The Band were actual musicians with very good voices. I would highly recemmend them to any Beatle fan. Relative to Paul, they also played "Let m In". While I would have preferred many other Paul Solo songs, I was somewhat surprised that the song did receive a very good response from the audience. Their arrangement was quite good.
