Paul McCartney 2014 Rumors

Bob Gannon:
We'll have a better idea once he plays Lubbock. Don't know if he'll change anything more for Japan
Hi Bob...I think Japan will actually be the trigger for any changes in the setlist. Since he's already played the "NEW" songs at several Japan concerts in November, if he was going to shake it up or include additional "NEW" songs, it would most likely be there.
-
...and speaking of concerts in Japan (and S. Korea), is there any more talk of additional shows this time around in Asia? With only 3 scheduled so far in Japan and one in Korea, it seems that there are quite a few gaps in the dates listed: Saturday, May 17th -- National Stadium, Tokyo Sunday, May 18th -- National Stadium, Tokyo Saturday, May 24th -- Yanmar Stadium Nagai -- Osaka Wednesday, May 28th - Jamsil Sports Complex Main Stadium--Seoul, S. Korea

I can't believe that Paul would skip Seattle after the amazing time that he (and thousands of his adoring fans) shared in Seattle at Safeco Field last year. It really was a very special concert.
well, at least Paul has a summer tour this year in the USA. It's been said by many people already but it's worth repeating. Not every place has had a visit by Paul either at all or for years. It's nice that he went to Seattle last year so hold on to that.
You Guys in the Usa are very lucky indeed to get to see Paul year In year out I cant afford flights to the USA from Uk. Think of us UK fans. He doesnt even visit his home country anymore . even through Elton and Rod stewart allways do a home Uk Tour for there home fans and have done for years. I would want to see Paul more than them, ! and poor Austraia havent seen Paul for years. !
Err,i miss Paul as much as anyone there is no one quite like him,but honestly i think he saturated the UK market with his "mini" tour ethos of the last few years,he may well have done just a date or two each year but it looked like he was never away, that and i really think the stick Paul got for those pretty poor performances at the jubilee and the Olympics hurt Paul on a personal level and we're paying the "price" if indeed there is a price to be paid by his absence over the last year or so. America because of its sheer size can take him every year he can (not that he does) go to different places each and every year and really never double up at venues from the years just passed,we cant do that in the UK so we have to hunker down and wait it out and he'll be back, though i suspect it'll be next year now for the UK and i suspect the Aussies will never see him again (based on nothing more than a gut feeling).

Doesn't look like it Phil, from what I heard from my friend....There was supposed to be a 2nd Osaka show which didn't materialize due to lagging sales of the first show. As far as the Budokan show, I heard the sponsor (I think Toyota) bailed out and this sunk that show. Haven't heard of anything replacing them As far as Buddy Holly song...I agree as is posted somewhere earlier that a Holly song will be played. I would say "It's so Easy" will be the choice as he has done this many times in soundcheck making it a very comfortable choice. And we all know, he usually stays within the box on setlist changes. Also Phil, you may be right, Japan might be the catalyst but I don't know how much it would transfer to the US...we haven't heard the "New" songs live unless he's going to change some of the others. Doubt he'd give up on the new songs yet
-
also, as far as replacing those shows in May, I would think that it's too close to plan and sell tickets to get that done at this point
-
I'm going to be soo diasppointed if he doesn't play "Early Days." He HAS to play that song!

Thankyou for informative reply, and intresting points. my extra desire to see Paul. stems from the fact after 38 years as a fan I havent actually seen Paul live apart from you tube, videos dvds. I missed the uk tours you mentioned through my financial contsraints, and various series of bad luck. and the one time I manaaged to buy a ticket in Mancheter Dec 2011.on Pauls last Uk tour a close family member sadly passed away,so I couldnt attend.I hope you get to Enjoy Paul soon in a venue near you, Nice talking with you, Have a great day !

I agree, Bob...there's no way he'll drop the "NEW" songs so soon. I just think the choices from that album may be altered for the second round of shows in Japan, as well as the U.S. dates that follow. Guess we'll just have to wait and see... Tom

Great points! I think he'll leave the songs he already has though and hopefully add one or two more, making it the most NEW songs he has played from his current album. I'm praying he'll add "Early Days," and he will probably add "Alligator" or "On My Way To Work." I just don't think he'll drop NEW, Everybody Out There, Queenie Eye, or Save Us. NEW and Queenie are the singles and Everybody Out There is pretty much the tour anthem, and Save Us just rocks the beginning. So hopefully Early Days will be added. I don't care which other gets adde since I love the whole album. Take your pick! I'll "Appreciate" any song from NEW and any one of them would be great!

Being that Paul just produced a new video for "Early Days" , you may be right. Personally, I would take anything from "NEW"...they're all great!

Yeah me too!!! I love them all!!! Yeah I just wonder when he is going to release the video?. I think he will either release it soon (like within the next 2 weeks) or right before he comes to the U.S. He might release it right before he goes to Japan and then add it in the setlist then and keep it for the remainder of the tour but we'll see!!

Was just looking over the full U.S. tour, and thought it was very interesting as to the last time he played in each city: June 14 - Lubbock, TX - United Spirit Arena ...First Time June 16 - Dallas, TX - American Airlines Center ...2009 June 19 - New Orleans, LA - Smoothie King Center ...2002 June 21 - Atlanta, GA - Philips Arena ...2009 June 22 - Jacksonville, FL - Veterans Memorial Stadium...2005 June 25 - Nashville, TN - Bridgestone Arena ..2010 June 26, - Louisville, KY - Yum! Center...First Time July 5 - Albany, NY - Times Union Center ...First Time July 7 - Pittsburg, PA - Consul Energy Arena ...2010 July 9- Chicago, IL- United Center ...2011 July 12 - Fargo, ND - Fargo Dome...First Time July 14 - Lincoln, NB - Pinnacle Bank Arena...First Time July 16 - Kansas City, MO - Sprint Center...2010 August 2 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Field ...2005 August 5 - Missoula, MT - Grizzly Stadium...First Time August 7 - Salt Lake City, UT - Energy Solutions Arena ...2010 August 10 - Los Angeles, CA - Dodgers Stadium ...2010 August 12 - Phoenix, AZ - US Airways Center...2010 August 14 - San Francisco, CA - Candlestick Park ...2013
I don't count that time he was in Atlanta in 2009--it was outdoors in a park, in August, 100 degrees in the shade, general admission, and it rained! I thankfully had sense enough to realize I'd be miserable if I went. The time prior to that was at Philips Arena in 2005 (so almost 10 years since most people could have seen him)
Nancy, I think it is fair to include the Piedmont Park show. You are correct that it wasn't a 'seated' show - general admission on the lawn. But they did sell almost 40,000 tickets to that show. That is still one of my 3 fav Macca concerts of all time. It just felt so epic. Outside with a huge crowd, sweaty hot day, thunderstorm in the middle of the show (which you could see building for some time) I started that concert just in front of the soundboard. By the time the rain had stopped I was within 50 ft of the stage as many chose to leave. Also, once it rained everybody had to stand for the remainder of the show (about the last 90 minutes), because the ground was a big pile of mud. it was also one of the few shows he ever did where there was a true opening act - in this case The Script, who were solid. Finally, Paul performed out wedding song that night, so my wife and I got to dance under a tarp in the rain to our song. RamblinRed

The '09 Atlanta show turned out to be a negative experience for me. Security watched me like I was a f-cking terrorist the entire show. All was redeemed the following year in Nashville -- to this day, the best of all the times I've seen him in concert.

About that rain, I remember the TV forecast either the night before or morning of, saying there was only a 10% chance of rain. Despite that, I took along the very small folding poncho and a hat, was very glad I did!

My friends sent me a poster & a cool Piedmont Park T shirt. Was that a green recycle logo on it? I haven't pulled it out this year yet.

I think it's definitely possible, especially in the U.S. But he has done "Appreciate" in soundcheck on this tour; that would be cool.

I have the green logo t-shirt. it is a green center ring for a 45 record to spin on a turntable. One of my all time fav concert T-shirts. Cool design and one of a kind. I had brought a large painters tarp to set on the ground to put our blankets on top of. When it started to rain we put the painters tarp over our heads. Pretty soon we had 30 people under that tarp. The Piedmont Park concert, the 1990 show at Carter Finley Stadium in Raleigh (another scorching hot day - first ever appearance by any Beatle in the Carolinas so the crowd was electric), and my first concert at the Omni in 1990 (4th row seats through the Fun Club) are my top 3. Wrigley field in 2011 is probably #4. RamblinRed

Paul rehearsed "Appreciate" (for an invited audience) on April 22, and I watched his band (without him) trying it out the following day. I believe it will be included in upcoming soundchecks, along with the ones soundchecked last year in Japan. I also hope "Early Days" will be added to the concert setlist.
