Paul McCartney 2014 Rumors

WCBSFM NY just played "Band On The Run" and the DJ mentioned the Out There tour and said quote "let's hope that area date on 10/22 comes to fruition" Could NEWark be in the cards now?
MSG is wide open during that time frame as well http://www.beacontheatre.com/calendar?page=0&evmonth=102014&venue=gardens&evtype=

The timing certainly works well in McCartney's schedule as he has nothing from Nashville on the 16th until Jacksonville on the 25th. if the 22nd date in the NYC area comes to fruition you have to think there will be at least 1 if not 2 other shows in that part of the country before Jacksonville. Wouldn't make alot of sense to play a one-off that far north from the rest of the tour. That would be expensive logistically. Also, I was thinking there might be a Sep 30th date somewhere between San Diego and Lubbock, but with the announcement he is doing the benefit concert in the concert hall in San Antonio on Oct 1st - that would seem out of the question. That would mean three straight nights of performances and that simply isn't going to happen. RamblinRed

I still find it very unlikely, regardless of availability. Paul has made it almost tradition to play a different NYC venue every OTHER year since 2005, which would line him up for 2015.....or maybe I'm reading into things

At this point the Wells Fargo Center in Philly is free from Oct. 19th (the day after Eric Church) through the 24th (the day before the Flyers come home to play). I'll cling to that thread for the moment!

I think the smaller market plans has backfired. The Pittsburgh show didn't sell out until the day of. I know the Fargo and Missoula shows have had similar problems. This is the first time since I've been seeing Paul that I haven't heard of instant sell-outs as the majority.
That, and his touring pattern of playing the USA every year will reach a critical mass. If he plans on touring until he is 80, why not take a year off in the USA? Tour Europe and Australia in 2015 then USA again in 2016.
What you say is correct there is only a certain amount of bodies who want to see a Macca show and he must be nearing it now surely there comes a time you have to take a break from a market that is over saturated with Paul. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and i would assume the bean counters are taking things into account regarding ticket sales,Paul's shows should be instant sell outs as befitting someone of his stature,at some point the market itself will say enough is enough but im sure Paul's people are savvy enough to take the hint.

I am not sure I completely agree. I think certain markets - NYC being one of them - can never be oversaturated by Paul. DC, LA and maybe a handful of other places where the market is transient and big enough that you could get away with it. Look at Billy Joel setting up residence at MSG or even Garth Brooks in Vegas. I could see Paul doing that one day and being quite successful.

NYC is a unique situation. Billy Joel could not do in Denver or Phoenix what he is doing in NYC. And Las Vegas is a unique situation. Elton John could not have a multi date residency in Kansas City or Salt Lake City. I think the point being made is more about cities between LA and NYC. But I see your point. McCartney loves NY, he has a home there, one day he may just say, "I'll play MSG once a month, and people can come see me there."
-
I agree - only certain markets are conducive to this concept and it's heavily dependent on the artist -- and yes Vegas should be considered totally unique. But it wouldn't surprise me if one day we did see Paul doing something like you mentioned and playing NYC once a month and having ppl come to him.

Billy Joel is venturing out of town now and again between MSG shows. But back to Paul please! I don't think the tri-state (NY, NJ, CT) area and Philly area is saturated at all where he is concerned. This year too, both Ringo and Paul have struck the USA while the iron was hot for the 50th anniversary of the Beatles arrival to the USA. Ringo's tickets went on sale just days after the Grammy show, and Paul's just about 5 weeks later. I hope he does come back to the NE US. I've been jones'in since Pittsburgh.

The megalopolis from Boston to Washington DC could never get over saturated, as tens of millions of people live there. New Mexico is empty by comparison, we have 2 million people in the whole state! That is one reason he won't play here, I guess. Places like Tucson are 1.5 hours from Phoenix, San Antonio an hour from Austin, etc. It is difficult for rural places. Ringo sold about 4,000 tickets here, but his average ticket price is $60.

Anyone think there's any chance of more shows being announced? I completely gave up hope that he'd come to Denver, but then San Diego happened and I'm slightly optimistic. Not sure if I can get to any of the other venues this year, so here's hoping!!!!!

Remember that to some degree Paul's touring schedules are arranged around shared custody of Bea. Those gaps may be times he's going to be with his daughter and not on the road. No way to tell, of course.

A 9-day gap between Lubbock and New Orleans, and another 9-day gap between Nashville and Jacksonville. Coincidence or on purpose?

Yea...neither of the two previous legs have that much "down time" between dates: JULY July 5 - Albany, NY - Times Union Center July 7 - Pittsburg, PA - Consul Energy Arena July 9- Chicago, IL- United Center July 12 - Fargo, ND - Fargo Dome July 14 - Lincoln, NE - Pinnacle Bank Arena July 16 - Kansas City, MO - Sprint Center AUGUST August 2 - Minneapolis, MN - Target Field August 5 - Missoula, MT - Grizzly Stadium August 7 - Salt Lake City, UT - Energy Solutions Arena August 10 - Los Angeles, CA - Dodgers Stadium August 12 - Phoenix, AZ - US Airways Center August 14 - San Francisco, CA - Candlestick Park I think it's very possible several more dates will be added during the October leg.
-
It would be great if it were in my area (MD-DC-VA). I've already driven to Pittsburgh then to Chicago then home again. Worth it, but exhausting.

July 16 - August 2 sure looks like downtime to me. As Bruce pointed out (and Bob Gannon before that many times), he does have custody of Bea to work out in the midst of this. Not very rock and roll, but that's life. Whether he is drastically altering the arrangement for this tour, I don't know, since he may have had more time with her while recuperating after the illness in Japan, but if he doesn't fill those gaps in October, Bea would certainly be the reason!

Hopefully he'll rehearse some NEW stuff to play in August. Hopefully it'll be "Early Days."

I remember seeing those gaps as soon as the rescheduled dates were announced. it is a big deal to reschedule dates and not that easy to accomplih. You have to see when facilities have available dates and how you can arrange it to not be a logistical nightmare. I sort of assumed the down times were likely weeks with Bea, but if not they defintely could fill in a few more shows during them that make logistical sense. It is interesting that the dates that have been added have all been on either side of the announced dates, not during the gaps -does make you wonder if that means those are off weeks with Bea.
