What a wonderful show last night. His voice was in fine form and he and the band were in it the whole time. Lots of guests including Diana Krall on piano during PL&U. The most touching moment is when he sang "Quite About It" for Levon Helm who is now in the final stages of cancer. Also got to meet him and the band (except Pete Thomas) after the show! All of them were very nice and Elvis stood around for pictures and autographs.

I wouldn't worry too much. A couple in front of me only knew a few songs but still had a great time. But if you really want to know some of these songs, I suggest you pick up the Rhino 2 CD Very Best of Elvis Costello. It covers a lot of the songs he plays. Have Fun!!

I decided to explore him after realising I really love his collaborations with Paul. Just listened to a CD of his greatest hits to start with. Only needed to listen to a few to decide whether I'd like to go and see him play in a few weeks time at the Royal Albert Hall (awesome venue!) I just got a good ticket! The official website have lots of stalls available close to the stage. I think I'll enjoy it, even if I don't know his songs so well.

Alright moving right along. I kinda forgot I was doing this album review thing, but I just received the Rhino edition of This Year's Model and it reminded me of this so...here we go. This Year's Model Recorded in late 1977 and released in 1978 with his brand new backing band The Attractions consisting of Steve Nieve on keyboards, Pete Thomas on drums and Bruce Thomas on bass guitar. This Year's Model is a pulsing new wave that basically defines E.C.'s sound. Whenever you ask anyone about Elvis they immediately think of Pump it Up and Radio Radio, thumping new wave songs. **No Action:**Once again we hear Elvis' voice open up the album just before the music coming. But instead of a single chord, a bashing sound comes through the speakers giving edge to Costello's lyrics. 9/10 **This Year's Girl:**Hear you really get hear the power of Nieve's contribution to the band. A steady circus like organ throughout the song against Costello's rage against fashion. Very fine song 8/10 **The Beat:**Wonderful bass line by Bruce Thomas here, shame about it all, though I guess I should save that for later albums. 9/10 **Pump It Up:**Once again Bruce Thomas shines, so essential that I had to learn to play it on guitar 'cause the song just wasn't the same without it. The catchiest song by far on the album. On Christmas I was able to get my whole family, who only knows Presley, to hum the chorus. Career highlight for sure. 10/10 **Little Triggers:**The ballad on the album, the songs fine on it's own but in the context of the album doesn't work really. Lyrically it fits in fine with the whole theme, makes me think of a few girls I know, but musically, doesn't fit. 7/10 **You Belong to Me:**Very short song, but says a lot in the timeframe. Nothing to spectacular though, works better in a live setting. 6/10 **Hand in Hand:**Don't know why, but this song doesn't do a whole lot for me. 5/10 **(I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea:**This is were I was signed in has a Costellohalic. Opening drums, bass comes in and a little bit of lead guitar...perfection, not really a way to describe it. Just have to listen to it. **Lip Service:**Like the lyrics ('lip service is all you'll ever get from me'), but musically doesn't do a whole lot for me. Though I heard an acoustic cover of this that I really like. 6/10 **Living in Paradise:**Very well written song all around, very good guitar line and great word play in the lyrics. Some of my favorite lyrics. 'I call you Betty Felon 'cause you are a pretty villain And I think that I should tell them that you'd make a pretty killing 'Cause meanwhile up in heaven they are waiting at the gate Saying, "We always knew you'd make it, didn't think you'd come this late" And now it's much too dangerous to stop what you've begun When everyone in paradise carries a gun' 10/10 **Lipstick Vogue:**Balls to the wall track, relying on Pete Thomas' vicious drum line and Costello's bitter lyrics ('sometimes I almost feel/just like a human being) 10/10 **Night Rally:**The real closing track for the record, nice build up in the verse to the chorus. 9/10 **Radio, Radio:**I want to say this is my favorite song on the album, mainly after seeing the SNL performance. I think the performance tells all for the song, cause I really don't have a lot more to write about. 10/10 [Key Bonus Tracks **Big Tears:**The only real outtake from the album featuring Mick Jones on guitar. Very good track, probaly should have made it somewhere on the album. **Crawling to the U.S.A:**Not really an outtake, wasn't recorded till after Armed Forces but the sound and the lyrics fit very well here. Overall: 9/10 Very good album, not great, but defiantly essential Elvis.
Great album! Although I would give Lip Service a 9 out of 10, but different strokes.............

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this concert Wednesday night ... it was EPIC I knew a few of the songs to hear, just didn't know who sang them, & he sang 'Oliver's Army', 'She' & 'Alison' (we were late getting there so he may have sang 'The Angels Wanna Wear My Red Shoes' but we'd have missed it!!) so I was a happy fool He did a FAB version of 'Chelsea' (& made a little remark about 'how about us beating them 4 - 1, which made my DAY!! hahaha) :L & 'Everyday I Write The Book' was class too ... as was 'A Good Year For The Roses' Also sang 'Please Please Me' but it was a lot slower than The Beatles version ... and 'Marie's The Name (His Latest Flame)' - I thought it was mental (in a good way) that Elvis Costello was singing an Elvis Presley song Am officially an Elvis Costello fan, so could other fans give me the names of some albums I should get please?! Cheers mates xxx

Knew you'd enjoy it The wheels a trip huh? Hoping he brings it back my way soon, so I can get closer seats. Don't know if you enjoyed it are not but he played a favorite of mine 'Suit of Lights' that he didn't play when I saw him. As far as albums go, it might be best to start at the beginning of his career and work your way through. His first three albums are considered classics, "My Aim Is True", "This Year's Model", and "Armed Forces" though they're not my favorite they have a lot of his hits on them and are easy to get into. It's still hard though to recommend a record of his as all of his sound different and some take some degree of appreciation of the man to enjoy. But what ever album you choose, if you can, try and get the Rhino 2-discs as they have some great demo songs and b-sides.

Awesome! What time did he start? How long was the show? I'm going to see him soon... Also as a newbie. The wheel spin thing sounds great fun. I wish Paul adopted that kind of method. Every setlist would be completely different.

He usually plays around 2 and half hours. At the show I went to he played just under 2 and a half hours and 30 songs. But unlike Paul, Elvis doesn't feel the need to perform a certain number of songs every night. If he's feeling good and the audience is into it, don't be surprised if he goes over three hours and closer to 40 songs.

The wheel was epic - I was staring at it flashing for about 5 minutes before he got somebody up on stage ... then they spinned/ spun (?!) it & then they went dancing in the cage. OMG - it was one of the best concerts I was ever at ... & the interaction with the crowd was brilliant. He's so witty ... fabulous Scouser

I'll be honest hun, I didn't know many of the songs ... but now I do I don't know 'suits of lights' - will youtube it & let you know. I loved nearly all the songs... even the three about 'Josephine'
