Hope Elvis keeps this idea going and really really wish Paul could come up with a version of it...
When Elvis cancelled his show for the second night in Cambridge, he announced that there were going to be more "Revolver" dates to be announced soon. Though I don't know where they would be
Oh Fabulous ... I was hoping for some more dates to be announced soon xxx

Getting withdrawals. I hope he does more UK dates soon. Any rumours?

I don't know if this means anything for the future, but this is the first time Elvis has toured the UK since 2005. But he seems to have enjoyed the shows there this year so hopefully that means more dates there. But maybe not until next year. Until the end of September he's playing a few small solo shows in Tokyo and a couple in the States. But the end of this leg of the Revolver tour is ending on Tuesday, so hopefully he will announce more dates then.

Maybe Paul really *should* take a lesson from his buddy Elvis. But knowing Paul, he'd have all the same 30 Beatles songs on his spinning wheel & you'd hear all the same songs as now. : Wonder if Paul has ever been at one of these shows. If not...someone get him a ticket...quick! Glad so many enjoyed themselves at the show!

"2054 - The Centenary Show" "Following his recent highly-acclaimed series of concerts in capital cities from Brussels to Istanbul, London, Vienna, Amsterdam, Oslo, Berlin, Stockholm, Prague and Reykjavik, Elvis Costello returns to the performing arts centers and theatres of California with a solo performance with the intriguing title, "2054 - The Centenary Show"... Asked about the title, Costello explained, "This show may contain any song I've written" "Some you will know already, some are the hits of tomorrow" "I'm playing this show now in the unlikely event that I'm not around to perform the songs on the appointed date" "Don't be late, we're going to have a big time" Redding, CA / The Cascade Theater / Monday, September 24th / On Sale Wednesday, June 20th Chico, CA / Laxson Auditorium / Tuesday, September 25th / On Sale Monday, July 2nd Arcata, CA / Van Duzer Theatre / Wednesday, September 26th / On Sale Monday, July 23rd San Luis Obispo, CA / Christopher Cohan Center / Saturday, September 29th / On Sale Tuesday, July 31st Santa Barbara, CA / The Granada Theatre / Sunday, September 30th / On Sale Saturday, August 18th Irvine, CA / Irvine Barclay Center / Tuesday, October 2nd / SOLD OUT!! Keep your eye on this space for more dates to be added in near future!

New Tour!!! No band or wheel. Just the man and a guitar, and maybe a piano. I don't know how many of the fans here are from California 'cause at the moment it looks like thats's the only place he'll be playing. Being only a couple hours away from some of these places hopefully I'll be able to catch a couple of shows. If I read into the comments by Elvis it sounds like this tour will feature a lot of different songs that he doesn't play very often or hasn't played in a while. And no covers. Looks like he wants to concentrate on his songwriting. Should be great if that pic is any indication.

At the Manchester show when he walked in to the crowd singing SHE I shook his hand

Love the Spike album (Veronica, Tramp The Dirt Down and in particular God's Comic are all utterly superb tracks) and also Brutal Youth. Some brilliant singles from earlier in his career but prefer these late 80's and early 90's albums. Also, must mention the excellent album he penned for Wendy James (Transvision Vamp), Now Ain't The Time For Your Tears which i still listen to regularly today.

Love Brutal Youth, but Spike doesn't do much for me I love Chewing Gum and God's Comic, but I prefer the live version of the latter. Have you heard the demos for the Wendy James album? Those are fantastic. I think my favorite Elvis song might be Do You Know What I'm Saying.

Thanks for letting me know about Elvis coming back to RAH next year. I seriously can't wait! Tickets go on sale in September. I'm too excited to wait so long.
-
No problem, I just saw it announced on his website this morning. Lucky you that the RAH shows are early on in the tour, because I'm betting he loses his voice towards the end. Hope not so he can swing back to LA! Also really hope he previews some new songs, it's been awhile since National Ransom.

Looking forward to hearing more of Elvis...

Time to continue my album review series!! Leaving for Utah tomorrow, so I'm pulling an all-nighter so I can get some sleep on the ride up tomorrow. I expect I might be able to do a couple of these reviews depending if I run out of comics and movies to watch. And next up is none other than jam-packed slab of vinyl Get Happy!! 1980, F-Beat Records, Wisseloord Studios Coming off the drug fueled antics of the 'Armed Funk' tour and the late nigh brawl with Stephen Stills, we find Declan trying to recreate his past success. Something the fans call 'Armed Forces II'. As evidenced by the alternate takes on the Rhino two-disc collection, these songs started out very much in the same style as 'This Year's Model' and 'Armed Forces'. Unsatisfied with results, a frustrated Mr. MacManus sets out to his local record dealer and buys all the Motown and Stax records he can find. What started as a rehash of old ideas turns into a grand idea of a soul induced album and that is what we have here. 1. Love For Tender: After three albums of Elvis' voice coming in a few bars before the music, a change is needed. And with that we have the punchy opening track for this grand album. Witty lyrics all the way through the whole 1:59 minutes. Soul is creeping in but still not there... 9/10 2. Opportunity:...and it's here. The first real stab at soul. Great work by Steve Nieve and once again some great lines from Elvis. 8/10 3. The Imposter: Something about this song I just really love. The energy carried through the whole song is fantastic. Props to every band member on this round. Something wonderful from all them this time around. 10/10 **4. Secondary Modern:**And we're back at the slow soul again, picked right up, and then sat down. Nothing wrong with that though, it works very well. Sounds very similar to 'Watch Your Step' from the next album, but I heard that one first so this is the knockoff to me. 8/10 5. King Horse: Don't know who to give the nod to on this one, Pete's fills, Thomas' bass, Nieve, or those damn witty lines by Elvis. Points all around, great track. 9/10 6. Possesion: I had a whole damn thing written for this song giving it so much praise. But then I lost it due to a screen freeze. 10/10 7. Men Called Uncle: Maybe it's the severe greatness of the other six tracks, but this song fails to strike a chord with me. 6/10 8. Clowntime Is Over: Don't care for this one much either. I might sound like a broken record, but again, there are some great lyrics. I prefer the No. 2 b-side. 7/10 9. New Amsterdam Dropping the Attractions for this number, Elvis is playing all the instruments, which is mainly an acoustic number. Reminds me a lot of 'Penny Lane' and 'You've Got To Hide Your Love Away'. 9/10 10. High Fidelity: Let by some grand piano playing by Steve Nieve, this is a slice of r'n'b perfection. 10/10 11. I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down: And after all that we're only starting side two. As soon as the needle drops you have the frenzied lead single of the Sam and Dave song. The live version is the definitive version of this song, first half, slow ballad, second half, gets you off your seat to start dancing. 9/10 **12. Black and White World:**As a youngin' I love this song. The lyrics describe a sexually troubled boy who dreams of sex with his favorite pin-up girls, only to discover the real thing is not as cool as sex by himself. "But you're never gonna feel a fraction Of the way it used to work in your imagination" Awesome stuff. 9/10 13. 5ive Gears In Reverse: Never really enjoyed this song till I saw him perform an electric rendition of it live. The bass work is to die for. 8/10 14. B-Movie: Bruce Thomas why do you have to piss off Elvis!! More great bass lines in the reggae styled song. 8/10 15. Motel Matches: As evidenced by the live versions of this song from '79, this song originally started out as a somewhat uptempo country song, in its current incarnation, it's turned into a piano ballad. Once again props all around. 9/10 16. Human Touch: It's taken a while but it has finally grown on me, still not a favorite, but I won't give it a low score. 7/10 17. Beaten To The Punch: Sounds to me like Elvis was having some girl troubles here. I'll have to look at the lyrics again, but it seems to me that Elvis is taking stabs at himself and his girlfriend. The lyrics and punkier sound immediately place this song on 'This Year's Model'. 10/10 18. Temptation: This song angers me more than any other Costello track. Elvis describes writing this song about a 'famous American rock musician who let fame go to his head' (Bruce Springsteen). But what angers me is that the this version is so inferior to the live version found on the 'Costello & Nieve' box set performed with just Nieve and Costello. 6/10 19. I Stand Accused: The band make this song their own. Performed to perfection, perfect song for leading up to the epic end. 10/10 20. Riot Act: Too perfect for words, the climax closes it perfectly. The only thing better is when he inserts a few lines of 'Instant Karma' into the live performances. 10/10 And it has ended, finally!! And the final score is, 9.5 A few less than perfect tracks keep this album from reaching the perfect score. But this is album is constantly in my top three Elvis albums.

I really don't want to write a whole 'nother post for the Outtakes but I'll list the best ones. Hoover Factory Ghost Train Just A Memory Girls Talk (Alternate Version) I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down (Alternate Version) Don't Look Back (Live) And I just have to type a few lines from this hilarious radio spot found as a hidden track. "There are three types of people who like this record, people over 21, people under 21, and people who turn 21 during the record!! "I don't want to say it's a big album, but instead of a record number it's got a zip code!" "Everybody in the world has a favorite song on the album, and all different!!" Hilarious stuff

Get Happy! is a brilliant album. I agree completely with the track by track review - it is nearly perfect (and 20 cuts worth with no filler). Even the tracks that missed the cut are fantastic.

Exactly, the quality this man was producing at the time is phenomenal. Seven albums in five years if you count the Taking Liberties collection is crazy. Some are less perfect than others, but you are right, there isn't any filler. Enjoyable all the way through.
