When GREAT singers keep their chops!
-
Pavarotti was in concert on PBS today, an old concert obviously as he has passed away. He still sounded fantastic as ever in his late 60's at the time of that concert. Eric Clapton sang "Holy Mother" with Pavarotti (I think that's its title). It tore me up, it was about their mothers passing away and how badly they miss them and want to be with them again. You could see the great emotion on their faces, and hear it as they sang. Clapton sounded good too. The song seemed painful to hear initially, but then provided a catharsis, as true art does.

I bet Tina Turner sounds the same, hell-raising, hair-raising (in a good way) vocals, as ever She still looks beautiful, too. She seems ageless.
-
Rosanne Cash still sings well
-
Apparently Olivia Newton-John, while never a truly "great" singer, can still sing. She's been given a Las Vegas residency to have an ongoing show.
-
Lionel Ritchie was on "Ellen" today and sang "All Night Long" and huffed and puffed all over the stage while singing it, sort of dancing. I feared he might have a heart attack. Yet he looked real good. Looked handsome. He didn't sound as good, though. He had a string of wonderful hits, as Ellen pointed out. Art Garfunkel has been rejoicing, said his voice has "come back" after a few years of vocal chord problems. Apparently he must sound ethereal and angelic as ever, now, for him to claim this.

Amen to that. I saw her comeback show somewhere not too long ago, and -- yep -- she's still got some awesome tonsils.

I am old now and I think I can enjoy a good voice or some one who really knows how to sing,, as much as anything at a concert,, I am too much into guitar & drums extra,, but it took me awhile to appreciate a great voice

AUDIE= here is another person that I recently seen & heard MAVIS STAPLES she is about years old I think ? she did not sound too old or the voice is not wore out ?
-
Here's the thing... I luvs me some ol' Mavis. But her voice has been shot for a couple of decades now. She can still growl and do her classic "sho' 'nuff"isms, but she really can't sing anymore.
-
Crosby, Stills and Nash mostly sounded just awful on a recent PBS concert special. Perhaps they sounded better if you were there in person. I found the state of affairs rather shocking and unexpected and had to stop watching.

OMG! Mickey Dolenz is nearly 70 years old and can still sing his @$$ off! Amazing show, folks: Mickey Dolenz Live May 2, 2014 Arcada Theatre:
-
Bette Midler has probably kept her pork chops...has a new album out covering girl group hits of the 1960s--and you just know it's probably gonna sound real good

Loverboy's Mike Reno's voice is as awesome as it ever was: Loverboy - When it's Over [live @ K-Days, Edmonton 7-21-2014]:

Marianne Faithfull. Not sure if kept her chops is the right thing to say, her voice is radically different now from when she was young back in the 60s. it's still beautiful in it own way and very expressive. I consider Marianne Faithfull one of my favorite vocalists. Her latest album "Give My Love to London" was one of the highlights of 2014 for me. Also, listen to "Esay Come Easy Go" (200, featuring duets with Antony, Keith Richards, Nick Cave... It's released as a single album but I recommend the exclusive two disc version.

Unfortunately, I'd kinda written her off after her, um, interesting(?) performance with Metallica on SNL back in the '90s. I might have to do some catching up, based on your suggestions.
