As I regularly do, I "googled" Paul McCartney this morning just to see the latest articles/videos that always seem to pop up. Anyway, there is an exclusive for an upcoming 60 Minutes segment about Paul. I believe it is the Australian 60 Minutes. The interviewer is Liz Hayes. Obviously the reason for the interview now is all about selling tickets for the December Australian shows. In this less than 1 minute sound bite to get the Australian people to tune in, there is an apparent bomb shell unless I have misinterpreted things here. The sound bite zeros in naturally on Paul's time with the Beatles and how massive they became. Then Paul mentions how the "phones light up like a galaxy" when he plays a Beatle song. The real news came next when Paul says "when I do the new song" it may be like a "black hole". Now Paul did not say "If I do a new song"...He said "when I do the new Song". I interpret that to mean that he will be doing a new song. Now that doesn't necessarily mean that "Miami" will get the "new Song" next month. But since the Australian shows aren't until December, he must be very confident that he will be doing the "new" song for that leg of the "One on One" tour. The other possibility is that at some point on the US leg, he will be unveiling it. Has anyone else heard anything??

___________________________________________ I just listened to the 60 Minutes Exclusive again and I'm pretty sure I have this right. Paul says and I quote "When I do the New Song"...this is when he references the "black hole". Let me apologize ahead of time if I have this interpretation all wrong.

Honestly, I think he is just referring to performing recently released solo songs in general (i.e. not classic Beatles or Wings), not a specific song he plans on playing. Since the next solo album will probably be released this year he most likely will play 3-4 songs from that, and he's saying they won't get the same reaction (people taking their phones out) as Hey Jude, Let It Be, Yesterday, Live and Let Die etc.

_____________________________________________________ Ane, You might be right and that is why I was apologizing ahead of time if I got this wrong. Don't want to get fans in an uproar especially if this is wrong. But he did say..."When I do the new song" which to me is different from saying "if I do a new song".

Yes, I think Ane is right. He even has been using this banter onstage. And I think that people don't know the words to any of his new material because they aren't played every tour & they aren't 50 years old. It's mostly Paul's own fault. PS. BJ...did you know that you can edit a post that you have already made? LOL... you could have just edited the 1st post.

___________________________________________________ Thanks oobu24. And yes, I have heard Paul using this same banter about the phones lighting up onstage. Did you see the "60 Minutes" clip that has just appeared? This certainly sounded more specific to me about his upcoming Australia shows but you and Ane could certainly be right.

Have not heard anything but I would assume by December the new album will have been released so it would not be a news flash if he did a few of them in Australia. It is still mind blowing to me that he gets so concerned with the reaction of a new song. Yes, it is not known and the crowd will probably give it polite applause but you are Paul McCartney so why worry about it. He does at least 25 well know songs that will get a very good to great response, amazing that is not enough for him - wow.

                    Maybe I'm amazed !!

I think you're over-interpreting. I think he means generally during his concerts when he plays new songs, people go to the bathroom or to get beer. We've all seen it, and probably all done it. And I'm sure at some point during this tour he will play a new song.

Or he could literally be referring to "New", the song as in..."when I play that "new" song..." I wouldn't read into this too much.

Different days I know, but the final encore for the Wings Over America tour was a new song. On the 1979 UK tour he played Coming Up which wasn't released till the following year (and went to number 1 in the US). Oh for the bravery of those days!

In Scotland, it is common to hear the phrase, "We're all Jock Tamson's Bairns", meaning "we're all the same under the skin" or "we are all God's children".

I think it's fairly smart to wait until release to play songs at shows - not counting promo shows like iHeart Radio Festival, Jimmy Whoeveritisthistime etc. If you're at a gig and he plays a new song, you might turn to your mate on the way out and say 'Man, that new song was actually really great. I'm going to grab the album.' and then you can get it from the merch stand. If it's not out yet you might forget by then or go off the idea. Play to the impulse buying market.

In 1989, he opened the concerts with "Figure Of Eight" which was a new song at that time. Can you imagine him doing that now - lol.

Yeah, he wanted to say "a new song" or "the new songs" and said "the new song", a forgettable "slip of the tongue". This story is his latest interview shtick. Regardless September or at least December will see the new songs at the predictable spots.

I haven't seen a new studio album at a macca show since 2009 when he had Memory Almost Full & Electric Arguments on sale...AND even gave Brian Ray and Rusty Anderson space for their albums! Since then, I've only seen Good Evening New York City pop-up in various forms occasionally.
