Paul and Ringo at the Grammy's

Cetera was basically the voice of Chicago so it was sad that they still don't get along. Would have been a lot nicer having him front Chicago instead of Thicke. Actually, there were only four original members of Chicago playing last night..
Including Robert Lamm who was one of the other lead singers; Cetera didn't sing on every song, in fact, I think Lamm was the original lead on "25 or 6 to 4" and "Saturday In The Park," two of the songs that were part of the medley. I liked seeing Chicago. I can take or leave Robin Thicke. As for Paul & Ringo, just happy to see the two of them together doing anything. I am not really surprised they didn't do a Beatles song, and I was fine with "Queenie Eye" esp as the lyrics harken back to their childhood game; maybe that's why Paul chose it over one of the other "New" songs. And I loved the clip of them dancing during "Get Lucky." I sort of wish they had been up there playing with Daft Punk.

Beatles4Ever&Ever:
I so wanted to feel an emotional wallop when/if Ringo joined Paul on stage and sat in on drums. When he did, on "Queenie Eye", I really didn't have the feeling I SO wanted. Maybe if Paul had sung "Day Tripper" or some other Beatles song with Ringo that might have made a difference. Not sure. And I sort of thought Ringo's performance on "Photograph" was not really eventful either. It just seemed odd and out of place and not really special. At all. Then this morning, I read the review of the Grammy Show in the Washington Post. The writer dissed all the "oldie acts/reunions" and, with regards to Paul with Ringo together, stated that.... "the Grammys did the impossible; they made the Beatles annoying." (He, of course, is always a bit churlish and he hated all the reunion pair-ups of new acts with the old, particularly the Robin Thicke/Chicago mash-up, or whatever it was. I didn't much like that one myself.) Still, regardless of what any music critic said, I wanted Paul and Ringo performing together to be an intense emotional experience and, for me, it just wasn't!!
The Grammy's are doing a special show in a couple of weeks and there will be plenty of Beatle moments/songs. Would love to know why this critic found The Beatles annoying. The two surving members played one song each so it was not like they were the center of the show. McCartney even let Grohl do the acceptance speech for the "Best Rock Song" award and Grohl had to basically pull McCartney to the mike to say a few words.
Actually, the critic in question is quite churlish most of the time, and he loves Kanye West. I think 'cause Kanye didn't dominate the Grammy's (or even get nominated for Album of The Year for his "brilliance" as the critic so thought he should/would, I'm sure that figures in. He was going to write a negative article regardless of what happened on the show. I knew and expected just that. I did, however, send him a little email at the Post this early a.m. about it all. He'll answer it. I'll get back to that later!!! (I guess that camera angle on Paul and Ringo was so good during "Queenie Eye", I didn't even realize Abe was on stage!!! )

That was great to see the lads playing together. Paul looked and sounded great. Nancy and Barbara looked beautiful and so proud of their hubbies!! It was great to see Yoko and Sean rocking out to Paul's music. What a nice reunion. I'm going to the taping of the "Night That Changed America" tomorrow. I'm getting very excited to see them! Sure hope those boys don't stay up too late partying tonight!! Here's a youtube clip of the performance:
You lucky dog! Take pics!

Yes, satisfying night! I did have tears in my eyes a bit after "Queenie Eye." Abe was definitely doing the "heavy lifting," but great to see Ringo drumming behind Paul too. We missed the end of the show since it ran long and we watched it somewhat delayed on DVR. By the time we realized it was going to run long, it was already over! (The Grammys had been good in recent years with staying on schedule.) So we missed Yoko and Olivia presenting Album Of The Year; was that memorable at all? I can't find a clip of it online, though I know who won it. Hey, yankeefan, I noticed there was no Peter Cetera. That was lame. Made it seem like a Chicago cover band, but at least they kept their Cetera imitator down to a minimum. Robin Thicke did not particularly add class to the proceedings. The NY Times article on the Grammys says that Daft Punk were the biggest winners, with four awards. Hello? Paul won four awards (five if you include "Sound City"), plus a portion of a Lifetime Achievement Award! Let me just say: I'm feeling a little more positive about next year's awards. If "Live Kisses" can get two awards in 2014, maybe "New" can win in 2015!
On my DVR, for live shows, it asks me if I want to add a half hour extension and I always say yes! I was watching live though and was prepared to record it even longer!

part of Queenie Eye...love Nancy's reaction!
Loved Nancy's reaction too. I still wonder why UTube blocked the performance they had up last night and early this morning. They had the whole thing. A couple of questions: *who are the older ladies they showed on screen. Were they Olivia and Ringo's wife or was it someone else I was nice they showed Jay C giving Paul/Ringo a standing ovation. That was cool.

For those who haven't seen the full Utube video of Queenie Eye, I just found it. Just go to Brian Ray's post page on Rock Show and hit the most recent page. You will find it.

A couple of questions: *who are the older ladies they showed on screen. Were they Olivia and Ringo's wife or was it someone else
Technically, that was only one question, so you're allowed one more Bernie John! I believe you were referring to Ringo's wife Barbara (long blond hair) and her sister with the short dark hair (who is married to Joe Walsh) (Olivia has long dark hair & she presented Album Of the Year with Yoko) Hey, nobody has so far mentioned Alicia Keys HUGE gaffe when she started to call John Lennon John Legend!! Lord! I about died! Yoko was probably ready to murder her, but she took it all in stride.

Nancy R, You are right...I thought that immediately when Alicia Keys made the flub. Anyway, I thought (as you would say) Paul vocally kicked "freeking ass" last night on Queenie Eye. It was teriffic! Now when is he going to announce his US tour cities and dates. I want to see Atlanta, Tampa and Philadelphia on that list. Can you imagine hearing Queenie Eye, Alligator, Save Us, New, I Can Bet, Everybody Out There, Early Days etc. at one show.

I really enjoyed Ringo doing Photograph. Glad he got his own moment up on stage with a fun song (and his photographs... nice plug!). .
And Paul played in front of a stage wide NEW album cover...that's a plug too, isn't it?

Nancy, Barbara and Olivia all looked beautiful. And, bucking the trends, not a hint of botox or cosmetic (dis) enhancement amongst them.... Madonna, on the other hand, looked like Colonel Sanders after he'd accidentally fallen on the injection they give to fatten up the chickens... And I did like seeing Yoko dancing along to Paul. And, I love that Sean was there. I said it before, but man, he's looking more and more like his old man. Would've been good if Julian was there too. But, a great night! (or afternoon, when it was beamed live into Australia)
You're kidding, right?

When the Legend/Lennon mixup happened, my smile flipped upside down and I turned off the Grammy's for the night and had my fill. Besides, I knew it wasn't gonna get better after "Queenie Eye" ended. lol.

ok... maybe I didn't get a good enough look at BB.... Then again, I'd just seen a segment on ET and witnessed what Courtney Cox had done to her face, so my point of reference may have been slightly skewed... BB still looked better than Madonna, though. And whilst I am at it, what did Alicia Keys do to her hair?

Madonna looked terrible. She had grills on her teeth? : : I thought Sean looked stupid. I also thought Alicia's dress was terrible.
