Video Game Music: "Destiny"

Nancy R:
Earlier tonight I saw a commercial for the game and the music was playing in the background.
I've been watching those Simpson marathons on FX when at my mom's and they show a commercial quite a bit. I didn't put two and two together as I am very opposed to video games

Yes, it was all over the place that Paul recorded a song that would be released as a single. To me, that means song (with words). This was either some poor reporting or an overzealous PR move meant to drum up some interest. Either way, disappointing. Been looking forward to hearing this "single" for the past three weeks.
Paul has done instrumentals before going back to the 80s with McCartney II

Lyrics: "HOPE" Some hope for the future; Some wait for the call To say that the days ahead will be the best of all We will build bridges up to the sky Heavenly light surrounding you and I From out of the darkness our future will come If we leave the past behind we?ll fly beyond the Sun We?ll be together, sharing the load Watching in wonder as our lives unfold Hope for the future It?s coming soon enough How fast can we achieve? Hope for the future It will belong to us, if we believe. Hope that rises in the dark Where nothing?s ever seen Lighting undiscovered places no one?s ever been Some hope for the future; Some wait for the call To say that our destiny will be the best of all And we will build bridges up to the sky Heavenly light surrounding you and I Hope that rises in the dark Where nothing?s ever seen Lighting undiscovered places no one?s ever been Hope for the future Hope for the future Hope for the future Think that's right anyway. Not quite sure about the "how fast can we achieve" line. Also I take it that "Hope" is the title based on the credits at 2:31
Not the game I see in the commercials which show heavily suited in armored humans going to Venus and then Mars shooting the natives and making bad action movie puns about the kills.

Paul should definitely do it live. Great song!

Someone at another forum pointed out this link: http://webpages.charter.net/ram71/2011.htm Could Hope be the same as Hope for the Future? parlance

I thought the Destiny song was called Hope.
-
On that YouTube link, it says Hope for the Future, but I don't know. parlance

Here's the likely outline of the work https//pbs.twimg.com/media/BNyhyf0CIAAN5XC.jpg Well, according to this, it's called The Hope. lol But all the songs have "The" in front of them so who knows? I'm sure eventually Paul will tell us the title. ETA Whoever is "fixing" these threads to remove the photos is not doing it properly to just leave a link.

Thanks for the credits. I wonder when this recorded? I love the song, but I am finding myself disliking the last three lines: "Hope for the future, hope for the future, hope for the future." I think it would be much better if they weren't repeated. Something like this (keep in mind I came up with this in 10 seconds): "If you can't face it Here is the answer Hope for the future!"
-
I love it. Great track. So big. Bombastic, and commercial, in the best possible way. Reminiscent of Paul's 80's ballads. A wonderful surprise...yet again.

Thanks for the lyrics! One little correction, I think it's: Hope shines brightest in the dark

One of Paul's weaker sets of lyrics. Is he borrowing material from Hallmark? Seriously, unless my opinion changes radically with a few more listens, I wish he hadn't done this.

I don't really understand why people are expecting a "song" in this thing. It's theme music for a video game. The talk of a "single" seems illogical, unless we're talking about a single like his "Honorary Consul" theme from decades ago. I wouldn't hold my breath... At best, we'll get a "soundtrack" type release. Here's the likely outline of the work:
Most interesting, glad there's Hope after Prison! The title reminds me a bit of Hoist, the Planets? Looks like Paul might have had his hand in this? It?s the Sun, Earth, Mars and Jupiter? I believe?

I hear it that way too! I think this sounds epic... I loved it the first time I heard it and each time is better than the last!! Sorry Bruce I disagree with your assessment of the lyrics... what do we have in life and how can we go on, if we don't have Hope? Love the bridges to the sky and flying up to the light and I love it at the end when it goes to the twinkling stars, so so beautiful. Paul is indeed a genius how he is able to make such beautiful music...

Same with me...I like it more each time I listen to it. It's grown on me from the first listen.
-
Took me 3-4 listens before I really got into it. Great track
-
Major disappointment. This song is up there with "Freedom" as a big stinker. CHEEZY lyrics
-
I think the song is fine. Not a classic, but it serves its purpose well. Apologies if this has been posted, but here are Paul's two collaborators discussing the score. They're pretty engaging, but they don't talk about Paul till about the last minute or so.

Mr. McCartney has written much worse lyrics and I think they fit for what he was trying to get across. I actually like the song and like I said in another post I am curious if it will get some radio airplay due to it being done for video game.
-
I like the song, not my favorite of course, but I like it. I'm honestly baffled as to why people are so up in arms about this song. It's a song for a video game which was probably to have a certain feel/sound to it, to go with the game. I doubt this will be for commercial release other than for this game but of course I could be wrong about that.
