Video Game Music: "Destiny"

Great song, but can't believe I can't buy it on a physical format. I don't have iTunes or Spotify This would have been the ideal closing track for "New". A better option than " scared" tbh. Great track nevertheless macca!

If to ignore just for a moment that it's all about video game and to look at 'Hope' as a single of Sir McCartney - then the futuristic theme of the video clip and cosmic landscapes with Paul's hologram look really cool and grandeur expressing the idea of the song itself. I love the first images of Paul singing the first lines of 'Hope' - his glance, gestures. And then interesting moment 0:56 when he sings 'surrounding you (hugging himself) and I (pointing in front of himself)' and two people (girl&boy) sitting and looking at him. Doesn't matter that he sings the same 2:34 clearly meaning all of you, people, and I (not so romantic ). So, even when this version doesn't have my fav lines 'We'll be together sharing the load, Watching in wonder as our lives unfold' - I still LOVE this song and its idea hope for the future! This work really surprised&inspired me and entertained my imagination. Good experimentations in art. P.S. I can't ask for the female Hunter he's created recently to be in this video, that'd be asking too much

I've had a chance to listen to all the mixes a number of times. First of all, I still really like the song. Sounds like classic McCartney to my ears. My favorite mix is the original one (titled "Main" on this release). My second favorite is the Mirwais Mix (track 5). If they had not messed with the chorus so much, this might be my favorite version. Lots of good sounds here. My third favorite would be the Thrash mix (track 2). Not bad. Very contemporary. I like it more with each listen. Fourth, the Jaded mix. Pretty Little Head meets contemporary dance. It's growing on me. Fifth, Beatsession mix. Dreadful. Bad 90's pop sound. And far too long. Almost turns me against the song. Four out of five is not bad. and honestly, I'm grateful to have the different mixes. Made for some interesting listening. Cool new single, IMHO.

OK...I get dibs on this hologram first! http://www.wired.com/2014/12/paul-mccartney-hope-for-the-future-video-exclusive/
Looks very impressive, but he's still doing those "Ever Present Past" moves.
Indeed. Note to video directors: Never show a full length shot Paul just standing there singing with no instrument in his hands. He always just looks like a fish out of water.

Yes, there was a little bit of awkwardness there, but it was minimal and the change in angles helped. In the end, the totality of the video was impressive enough to overshadow it - plus the song is great He clearly seemed to have collaborated with the Destiny people in making it, which confuses me since the game's Facebook page hasn't mentioned the song at all in the buildup of the single's release. They reach an entirely different audience than Paul's does, so one post would go a long way. Plus, there's no banner anywhere on iTunes for it last I checked. Certainly hope this changes throughout the week, but it would have been ideal to have both ready on release day... Oh well. As I said, the song is great!

A lot of people I've talked to about it seem to like it as well! A fellow Macca friend of mine who has been harsh on almost everything since "Flowers In The Dirt" even gave it high praise. ...and I like it, too!

Got it from iTunes yesterday evening. I think it is a great song, classicmacca. The trash version is my favorite, at the moment.
-
What a cringeworthy video. Seriously, who thought that was a good idea? Probably only Paul. It deserves all the ridicule it's getting. It's terrible.

I believe it's called "thrash" version.

Good news! iTunes now has a big banner feature for the EP at the top of the home page (which scrolls across along with several others), and the EP is featured in the top new releases, too. Makes sense that they waited till today, since Tuesday is usually the day everything gets refreshed there.

And I believe that his own photographer, MJKim, shot the pics for the hologram.

From whom....aside from yourself? It's not terrible. Paul looks a little stiff in the video without something in his hands, but there's absolutely nothing even slightly cringe-worthy about it. And it's about the song in any case, and there's absolutely nothing terrible about it.

Um, it's being ridiculed all over the Web. And rightly so. Forbes headline: Disasters in Branding: Paul McCartney's Destiny video: http://www.forbes.com/sites/insertcoin/2014/12/08/disasters-in-branding-sir-paul-mccartneys-destiny-music-video/ Kotaku (a popular gaming site: Paul McCartney's Destiny Music Video Is... Bad http://kotaku.com/paul-mccartneys-destiny-music-video-is-bad-1668355815 I could list more. But it's painful. And what's more embarrassing is the lengths Paul is going to to flog a mediocre song that is only going to tank on the charts. His judgment about these things is so wildly uneven. He produces a good album in New and then comes up with cheesy embarrassing garbage like this.

I THINK WE PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT WE WANT TO SITE TO SUPPORT WHATEVER POSITION WE ALREADY HAVE. ROLLING STONE CALLED IT "JAW DROPPING". AND IN A GOOD WAY. USA TODAY FEATURED THE SONG AND ALL REMIXES IN ITS "SONG OF THE WEEK" SECTION ON THE MUSIC PAGE. SO...IT'S NOT ALL BAD. I'M SELECTING SOURCES THAT SUPPORT MY FAVORABLE POSITION, YOU'RE DOING THE OPPOSITE. THAT'S ALL.

That video is jaw dropping all right. Jaw-droppingly bad. It's Ebony-& Ivory bad. It's Broad-Street bad. It's Paul-rapping-about-Meat-Free-Monday bad. It's Mary-Had-a-Little-Lamb bad. It would have been nice if Paul had risen to the occasion and produced something truly cool. He didn't. And clearly no one on his team has any taste or any stones to tell him "this is awful."
