There is no record buying demographic for Taylor Swift - barely anyone in that demographic will want to 'own' music - it's all streaming. Technically you have a bigger McCartney record buying demographic
Completely incorrect. Taylor Swift catalogue wasn't even available on streaming outlets until 2 months ago. That's almost 3 years after the release of her latest hit album, which sold almost 7 million copies worldwide at that point. Also, "Swift's first-week sales were about evenly split between digital downloads and physical CDs, though 1989 sold slightly more physical copies (647,000) than digital downloads (640,000). 1989 logs the largest week for a physical album since Swift's last album, Red, launched with 743,000 physical copies in 2012. " (http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6304557/taylor-swift-collects-fourth-no-1-album-now-52-debuts-at-no-2 'New' did 217,000 copies in total in the US...
I don't mean latest record sales - as time goes on younger demographic of a certain age groups won't be 'buying' - it will shift to streaming numbers. The target audience for McCarntey will surpass, in general, physical purchases at a certain point - but who cares - at this point in his career I don't think he cares about the record selling numbers game. He makes albums from the standpoint of keeping in the game as a craftsman.
Oh, I believe he would love to win a Grammy. I recall the look of anticipation on his face just before the announcement for "Best Pop Vocal Performance Album"...not sure if that's the exact title of the award....but then Kelly Clarkson won. He should have won for "Chaos and Creation....". It was really a slap in his face ...IMO. Yes, she has a good voice....won American Idol, but still.......He appeared crestfallen.

IMO, any top ten McCartney list that does not include Venus and Mars is a waste of ink.
-
B J Conlee:
Venus and Mars should definitely (again my opinion) should be on Paul's top 10. I would easily have V&M on the list and remove any one of these 3 - McCartney, New or Driving Rain. I like all 3 but V&M is much more consistent. Not a bad track on V&M in my humble opinion.
I totally agree and found it strange that several Wings albums were missing from the overall listing. On closer inspection, my original list was for 'Paul McCartney', 'Paul & Linda McCartney' and 'Paul McCartney & Wings' albums. Any release that mentioned Paul McCartney basically. But the albums that were credited just to Wings were in another category. So including the ratings of the 5 Wings albums involved (Wild Life, Venus And Mars, Wings at the Speed of Sound, London Town & Back to the Egg), there is a slight but important change to the Top 10, which now looks like: 1. Ram (1971) 3.95 2. Band On The Run (1973) 3.91 3. Chaos and Creation in the Backyard (2005) 3.72 4. Flaming Pie (1997) 3.64 5. Venus and Mars (1975) 3.61 6. McCartney (1970) 3.52 7. Tug of War (1982) 3.47 8. New (2013) 3.41 9. Flowers in the Dirt (1989) 3.40 10. London Town (197 3.38 So, Venus and Mars & London Town are in the Top 10 and we lose Memory Almost Full & Driving Rain. .

No Kestrel, New is not a much better album than Memory Almost Full. And the math sort of proves it. 636 to 219!
While popularity absolutely does not equal artistic greatness, MAF runs circles around New in terms of quality. Not even close.
Your opinion, that's all.

All I can say is, your mileage may vary. I'd rate MAF above about half the albuns on this list.
-
I have to agree with favoritething, MAF is not in my top 10.
-
MAF just about sneaks into my top 10 even though I can't listen to it all the way through in one sitting due to the bad sound. I would love to see this remastered but someone commented earlier that the harshness is "baked in" and can't be fixed.

"1989" sold 1.287 million copies in its debut week in 2014, becoming the first album that wasn't a Swift album to reach a million in a week since Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" in 2011.
1989 (a Swift album) was the first album that wasn't a Swift album to reach X since Y?
See above, "1989 logs the largest week for a physical album since Swift's last album, Red, launched with 743,000 physical copies in 2012."
That makes a lot more sense.

Math doesn't prove what's good or bad.
My 8th grade algebra teacher would disagree.

That list is pretty accurate for me. I would take out London Town and insert RRS. I don't necessarily agree with the order, but if I were to pick his top 10 albums, this would probably be it with RRS. MAF would be 11, if this list went to 11. For some reason I've always had a sweet spot for Egg as well....

Clem - thanks for putting the thread train back on its tracks with this new info; got a little bored with Taylor Swift comparisons and ranking past releases.

Yeah, it gets really exciting when we will hear something. I can't wait to see/read anything about tonights show! In terms of promotion for the new album and what I think would be really cool; if Paul would make an appearance in the Carpoolkaraoke of James Corden and sing some songs. That might also introduce him to a new audience. And a guest appearance of Mick Jagger would of course be hilarious. Especially if they would sing a song of one another ð??. This will go viral for sure ð???. What do you guys think?

So Paul has been filmed experimenting with sand ,and is going to croak his way through a live concert, playing a load of old songs which he use to be able to perform so much better than he can now? Hmmm. Now, about Taylor Swift.

"and is going to croak his way through a live concert, playing a load of old songs which he use to be able to perform so much better than he can now?" And charging hundreds of dollars for a ticket - lol.

Perhaps we'll have somewhat of a preview of Paul's new album this fall, as Foo Fighters (headed by Paul's friend Dave Grohl) and Beck (another friend of Paul's) have new albums coming out that are both produced by Greg Kurstin, who of course is also producing* Paul's new one. *reducing the croak, if you will
