Kudos to Paul and Capitol for the "Carpool Karaoke" appearance with James Corden!!
As far as promoting Paul's new album "Egypt Station" it has been a major success. No other appearance could have generated as much "buzz' that this show has done. Carpool Karaoke is "hot" right now and James Corden is the perfect host for Paul. He made Paul feel relaxed and the 23 minutes Youtube segment was a joy to watch. Even non-Paul fans are saying great things about the poignancy and down to earth aspect of the show. So many websites and media outlets are picking it up. Most are saying that it is the "best" Carpool Karaoke yet. Last count is somewhere at the 16 million mark for viewership.
I only saw one article that was negative (Now Magazine article written by Susan Cole). Ms. Cole piece totally emphasized how bad Paul's 2018 voice and describes the 2 new songs as awful. I disagree but she does have a point for people "unfamiliar" with Paul's current voice. Ms. Cole however should realize that Paul is 76! As a big time fan, I have gotten relatively used to Paul's older vocals. I actually think Paul's current voice is beneficial on a song like "I Don't Know" where Paul's lyrics are showing his serious, vunerable and mature side. "I Don't Know" is really growing on me.
I think why "Carpool Karoake" was the perfect intro for Paul's new album is that it showcases Paul's "humanity" for being one of the most recognized human's on the planet. The feature (almost documentary) went far beyond how well Paul sings today. One of the best articles/reviews that I saw was from "America...The Jesuit Review" by Rev. James Martin. For those who have not read it, Nancy put it in the "the Filming of Carpool Karaoke- Broadcast thread. In the article, Rev. Martin focuses on Paul's humanity and humility and what a great example he is for everyone. As he emphasizes, Paul makes his fans (and beyond) feel better about themselves and the world in which they live. When they were singing "Let It Be" in the car and James mentioned that he wished his grandfather could see this (his grandfather loved the song), Paul just said 2 words that was so perfect. In a very relaxed state Paul simply said "HE IS". There were so many parts like this in just 24 minutes.
As I said, this episode was perfect for Paul at this time. He's getting so much positive press based on this show. Yes, Paul's voice is not Paul's fabulous Beatle voice as all of us know, but it did show how Paul is still being creative musically. One of the best parts (of many) for me was when James and Paul were singing Paul's new Single (Come On To Me) in the car. They were just having "fun" with the song and James really got Paul into it. The show in my opinion did not come off as a "promotion piece" for Paul's new Album, but it did highlight in a very subtle way that Paul is still "creating" new music at 76. It should be interesting to see if this new single hits relatively home to the "younger audience". James Corden is a young guy with tremendous "audience media reach" and you could tell that he loved this song. It has a "today" rocking sound whereas "I Don't Know" is classic soulful balladeer Paul. Hopefully this double A single is a good combination and will catch on.

As I mentioned above, "Carpool Karaoke" was the perfect and best media vehicle for Paul to launch his new album. I have been surprised just how many people in my specifi area (central Florida) have been talking about it...hardcore fans like me but casual fans as well. While the information on Egypt Station was brief, it was effectively subtle showing Paul's human and humble side and it got Paul back in the news in a huge way.
My main concern however is that the complete album won't be released until early September. In today's world especially, people have very short memories.
It got me thinking how important a released "2nd" Single (possibly in another month) might be. Hopefully, Paul and Capitol might have another song from Egypt Station that they already have in mind for an August release. I hope it is just as good (or even stronger commercially) than "I Don't Know" or "Come On To Me". He needs another vehicle to carry him over and get people (especially casual fans) more excited in this "in between" period.
What do you think?

Loved watching this apperance, it was so much fun. Don't know if you are a FB person but quite a few people were posting the youtube clip of this appeance on their FB page. As for Susan Cole, I don't think his voice on that apperance was awful even though I am used to his voice now. The songs he was singing he still can do fairly well, obviously not as well as even 10-15 years ago. As for the two new songs, I think they are ok but definitely not awful. I definitely am into "Come On To Me" more than "I Don't Know" which does nothing for me at this time. Like I said in another post, maybe it will grow on me once I listen to it a few more times. Yes, plenty of young people saw the show and probably enjoyed it but I doubt it will make them buy his new music. IMO, young people will probably just think it was cool to see a Beatle legend having fun with their favorite late night host.

Without a doubt, he needs a strong commercial like song (it needs to rock !!) to be released a few weeks before the album realease in September. I totally agree people are not going to remember this appearance in September.

Agree with you totally Yankeefan. Paul at his age is never going to be a Top 40 Singles' artist. As I said, the "Carpool Karaoke" was a great vehicle to get everyone talking about Paul again because James Corden (so funny) is the "hot" talk show host right now. It will get his fan base to buy the album which was the main purpose. No other show could have done this so well for Paul.
I have to say that "I Don't Know" has really grown with me with a few more listens. I've heard it a couple of times on Sirius and a few times on the YouTube lyric video. I love the intro, the overall melody/mood and especially the middle/chorus portion...But it's alright, sleep tight portion. So far the 2 songs remind me of Paul's Chaos and Memory Almost Full period. "I Don't know" reminds me of a cross between "Anyway" and "This Never Happened Before" that ends Chaos. "Come On to Me" has that wacky/Paul Memory Almost Full period. It's only 2 songs but I hope the whole album has a combined feel of those 2 albums.
I also like the "production" on both songs and that is a good, hopeful sign. While "Come On to Me" is a little too repetitive for me (made for the younger audience I imagine) I do like the interesting instrument changes in the latter half. It also is growing on me. Hopefully, the new producer has an good effect on Paul similar to Nigel Godrich. As you always pointed out, Mr. Godrich was so honest with Paul that kept Chaos from having the 2-3 duds that has marred many of Paul's Solo albums. Can't wait to hear the whole album.

I agree, can't wait to hear the whole album. LIke I have said a bunch of times, I get much more excited about new album than news of him touring again. Praying that the producer does a good job and keeps duds off the album. I am a little concerned hearing it will be 14 tracks and instrumentals opening and closing the album. I just hope these songs don't just kind of meander and sound like throw away songs.

Now that Sgt Pepper has been released, the focus for MPL should be switching to the new album. But taking a look ahead, there does not seem to be a whole lot of time to promote the album. We know it's eventually coming soon, I mean it will be sent to those who purchased tickets for the later shows on the tour. But when you look ahead, when will there be time? June.....although they are off, if would be quite difficult to do at this point without any advance notice. We are already almost in June July.......bulk of the month touring August....no touring and the band is not on call and off for the month September......back to touring most of the month in NYC area mostly October...we have at least 6 confirmed shows and 2 or 3 rumored ones This leaves November/December.....however at least some of that looks to be touring as well. Don't ask me where, I can't tell you but awefully good chance of some more shows. So this begs the question...How and when will this album be promoted? What does everyone think?
I'm still trying to figure out why he released two singles about 2 1//2 months before the album. Carpool Karaoke?

I started to pre-order it, but $24 (with shipping) just seems ridiculous. I think I'll just try to get it in the store, if I don't change my mind and wait for the inevitable super deluxe that may have those same tracks, haha.
