SECOND SINGLE FROM "NEW" - "QUEENIE EYE"
-
Thanks for your eloquent intelligent thoughts, guys. You make a lot of sense. Did the Beatles invent "art rock," that fancy embellished style overlaid with classical sounds? Is that what folks are thinking about when they charge that Beatles songs are "old-fashioned?" Also their rockabilly efforts? Why can't these styles be considered timeless classics and always laudable and admirable?

Finally got to listen to Queenie Eye. Am I the only one that thinks the fans are really over hyping this song? I like the chord structure and the lyrics are okay...but I think it's a little abstract for my liking. I can't understand what he's saying either. I really don't like the production on this one. 2/4 for the NEW songs for me...New & Everybody Out There are YAY...Save Us & Queenie Eye are NAY...

Well, I totally disagree with you on Save Us & Queenie Eye. To each his own.

The video of him singing it is on the other thread about his 15 min. performance in Times Square.

Prudence asked why's it an "insult" for a Paul song to be called "Beatlesque" when that's a big compliment for anyone else--why are Beatles songs sometimes called "Old-fashioned," I've wondered that lately, too. Why aren't they just considered very good, often brilliant songs that are wonderful in a timeless way?
What I really hate is when after they've played a Beatles' song, "they say something like 'that was an old Beatles song'. Can't it just be a Beatles song or a song by The Beatles???? They're timeless and besides we all know when it was recorded and that the group no longer exists. Suppose some station played, say, Beethoven and then said...Oh that was an old Beethoven song!!! It's kind of the same thing...when you think about it.

That's right
-
Let's hope it does well because "New" is now starting to slip on both the AC and Triple A airplay charts.

I felt the same way when I first heard it, but believe me even the songs that don't appeal on first listen will grow - and quickly!!!

It hasn't instantly grabbed me either, though my opinion may well change when I finally have the CD and hear it on a proper sound system. But at present it's my least favorite of the 4 songs I've heard (i.e. the ones that have been performed live). I don't dislike it, but I don't instantly love it like I did the other 3.

I agree with that. Its not a bad song, just not what I expected. At first, it kind of fell flat on me and I thought it was a little repetitive and stagnant in melody. But after a few listens, it does immerse itself quite well. Even during that first listen, I could already tell it was a much better choice for radio than "New." To be honest, I don't think its particularly Beatles-esque at all (the "Walrus" comparisons were reaching); to the contrary, I think its sounds very contemporary with clear McCartney trademarks. Now I really like it, but still not as much as the other three, which go over more smoothly. It the kind of song that could definitely hook young people and is very-radio friendly. After a few listens, you would want to find out who's singing because Paul is still distinct in music to this day and stands out even when he styles his approach after modern trends. Can't wait for the video.

Really good really. Fun and interesting lyrics.

Dear Wix and Spock. For you information, you are wrong and everyone else is right. Just thought I would clear this up. Warm Regards PS. Spock- I don't understand your eyebrows! and Wixrocks what it with those sideburns!Me thinks there is a theme!

I think it's good. I agree with WR, it's a little overhyped. NEW itself was very hyped. Sure, it's catchy, but his voice doesn't sound great and the lyrics are eh.

Listened to Queenie Eye once, the middle section is a tad slow but think its a song that could grow on me!

Outstanding song!--

I've been semi-obsessively watching the airplay charts and checking the playlists of individual stations that post them online. I see no sign that Queenie Eye has had much of an impact other than to kill New's upward progress on the Triple A and AC charts. It's early, but this tune did not get the quick pickup that New did.

It should. It makes me want to hear it again. Good song. New claim to fame.
