just curious has Paul "tested" any new songs on tour? probably not. I think with record sales being poor or diluted explains why so many artist tour. Yep looking forward to it
No, he hasn't, alas.
My guess is that he debuts a song from his upcoming cd in San Francisco this week.

Maybe because 85% of the audience wouldn't be the slightest bit interested in a new song. He's painted himself into a corner over the last 20 years to the point that most in the crowd are lapping up third rate Beatle songs, over top notch solo songs. For this reason alone I will never part with my cash to see him live these days.......not that he will venture anywhere near here.....1979 was the last visit !
Well, I'd say there are no "third rate" Beatles songs, haha! I'd love to see him do more solo tracks, but I'm not going to boycott his live shows: he's still a great performer.
IMO - I would consider "All Together Now" a 3rd rate Beatle song.
The main point that Macca Mad was trying to make (I think) was that he actually HAS painted himself into a corner. If Paul had continued to play more of his solo music in his concerts it wouldn't be sooo much of a BeatleFest. Yes, we all love those songs but I for one also love his solo stuff.

That's exactly what i meant, he's almost exhausted the Beatle songs at the expense of far superior solo songs...a random example, i'd rather hear No More Lonely Nights over Ob La Di Ob La Da anyday ' but thats just me & i know i'm in the minority, as most people in the crowd are lapping up the Beatle dregs.

I get your point, but I still think it's worth seeing him perform live. I think our only chance of seeing him revisit a lot of the other solo work is one of those "secret shows" or maybe something on the web. The opening song could appropriately be "I've Had Enough"!
-
With the exception of the current album he's trying to promote, has Paul played ANY of his post 1980 songs in concert since he started touring again in 1990?? I dont think he has any post 1980 songs in his current setlist, which is just plain awkward. Fans would love to hear My Brave Face, Take it Away, No More Lonely Nights, or Freedom.
-
Well, there is Here Today, and Flaming Pie was included in the set list for a while a few years ago and he's occasionally played Calico Skies. But unfortunately I think those are the only ones.
-
I think the following as the most recent recordings will give some indication as to the vocal quality on the new album The Beetroots collaboration The contribution to Eric Clapton's All Of Me I Want To Come Home for the film soundtrack My Soul with Nitin Sawhney Best Love with Steve Martin I Want To Walk You Home with Allen Toussaint The Very Thought Of You with Tony Bennett Heal The Pain with George Michael Safe to say it will be 'lived in' and indicative of a man aged over 70 - how could it not be ? And I have no problem with that i'm just glad he's still making music !

Most recent stuff? Kisses on the Bottom is not included? A few of those that you mentioned were not Paul's "babies" so he did not have total control with them as an album of his own has.
-
I take your point but I felt Kisses was such a different vocal style so the ones i mention are the most recent pop/rock vocals and whilst they were not his 'babies' as such they were his vocals. One more i forgot He Ain't Heavey He's My Brother from last Christmas.

I'd consider "C Moon" a third-rate solo Paul song, but that didn't stop him from playing it live numerous times. I have a theory that it was the audience's less-than-rapturous reception to that song that soured him on playing other non-hits from the solo years. But I think he was also surprised at how excited the audience was for "Too Many People".
I never like "C Moon" either.

I agree, I preferred the 89 and 93 tours when he played a bunch from new CD. I also don't like that he never again did any FITD songs after the 89 tour. Also, I have often said I would love to hear "Take It Away" live.

The only "third rate" Beatle song I would name would be What Goes On and Ringo sang that!
-
I think Long and Winding Road is a 3rd rate Beatles song. A dirge. As for post 1980, I wouildn't mind if he dragged out Figure Of Eight But yes, there are sooooooo many he could do.

I would have said the same thing till I saw him play Ob La Di Ob La Da in San Francisco 4 years ago. The whole crowd jumped to their feet and started clapping along. It was as if a cloud of happy dust had been spread over the stadium -- truly, utterly magical. But yeah, I'd still like to see more solo material, especially recent stuff.

Isn't this thread about the new album ? There is a thread for discussing songs you'd like to hear at the live shows.....
-
There are a few threads about the new album too. Without an album what is there to discuss?
-
24 pages would suggest plenty. No harm in it. Was just saying there are relevant places to discuss the live tour. And places for those who wish to discuss the upcoming new album. Are you suggesting we should have one big thread where anything goes ?
-

I think there should be only one about the new album before it is even released. And yes, 24 pages & that's why many people go off topic. Are you suggusting we not do that?
