Looking At Her
-
This has been one of my favourites on the album. It's just amazing the way the song actually captures the state of mind that the lyrics are talking about. The beautiful slow bits are like being amazed at the trance of this girl but then every so often, you just get so obsessed with her that it's like a physical pain where the big distorted breakdown comes in on 'I'm losing my mind...' Such a well crafted piece of art

Love how it goes from one style to another and back. I've heard all the songs already, but can't wait to get the CD to hear them "in order" one right after the other!
Totally agree nancy, the change up in sound really works for me to alter the mood in this song. I love that outrageous sound! And the other parts are gorgeous. I've had those tracks on my iPod now for maybe a week, running order does work well, puts everything in context a little bit and despite the 4 different producers on it, they do achieve a certain flow with it. 11/15 is the official delivery date for the LP! You got on ordered Nancy?
Speaking of change up in sound...I just read an article online about someone's idea of the 21 best deep album cuts by Paul. One of them was "The Pound Is Sinking." The writer of the article was so very impressed by the fact that the song has at least 4 melodies which Paul magically weaves together. His #1 on the list was "Little Lamb Butterfly." Don't disagree. He did mention one song...maybe two...that I was unaware of and loved....."Mama's Little Gir" (gorgeous ballad) and "I'll Give You a Ring'. I had never heard those songs before. Are they on albums? Well, I guess they are, since the article is about deep album cuts!! LOL There are others on his list that I'm not too sure of where they are, which albums...

"Mama's Little Girl" is a beautiful song. Classic McCartney all the way.

"Mama's Little Girl" hasn't been released on an official recording. It's on a "boot." It would have fitted in on "Ram" and sounds like he did it during that bucolic happy time. Sounds sweet and tender
-
It was officially released as a b side to put it there I have it on 12'' vinyl not sure off the top of my head if it was released on CD.
-
Wow, Darrel, you're lucky to have that Two out of this world Paul songs on one disc Perhaps it's a collector's item.

True. I bought the "cassingle." At the time, I didn't realize how old the song was until I noticed "1973" in the notes, although the single was 1990.
-
Think the other track on the single was same time next year
-
I'll Give You a Ring was the B-side of Take It Away 45. I have it!
-
Did Paul play Momma's Little Girl on Unplugged? Been a long time since I listened to that one.

Paul's catalog is so deep, rich and long that many many great songs of his go unnoticed by the vast majority of people. He has tons of songs that, if on someone else's album, would be huge hits and get lots of attention. Being so talented works for and against Paul at the same time. It sort of becomes, ho-hum another melody. It's just expected and assumed. And a great many sort of disappear. Which brings us back to "Mama's Little Girl".

Mama's Little Girl is a bonus track on the 1993 Reissue of Red Road Speedway (I believe this is true although it might have been a bonus track on the Wildlife 1993 Reissue). Obviously, when Paul gets around to doing a full Reissue on Red Rose Speedway and Wildlife (like he has done for McCartney 1 and 2, Band on the Run, Ram, and Wings Over America) we will probably get even more bonus tracks that were done in those time period. Couldn't agree me...Mama's Little Girl is a great little song that has a country feel.
-
At didn't like this song when it first started playing, but as soon as it into the "I'm losing my mind" part, I had to smile and it's grown on me a lot. Now one of my favorites on the album.

Very strange (in a good way) how they grow on you.

Thank you. Someone mentioned (Audie, I believe) that it was recorded in 1973), which makes one wonder how/why he didn't include it on Red Rose Speedway. Too many ballads? I guess that's another one I need to listen to again...haven't in years and years. I just remember that "Big Barn Bed" to start the album was...not a good idea IMO. I'll revisit it. Somehow, I'm liking things now that I didn't used to think I liked, (RAM for instance. I am even liking "Driving Rain" more than I originally did). Maybe I'm going soft or daft or whatever.)

This one sounds familiar from the get go, as if you've always known it...is that good or bad? Probably good.

My husband said "Oh, I've heard that one before" regarding a tune on NEW. "It's an old one." "Ah, no, I don't think so. It's a NEW one."

I know. Looking at Her is stuck in my head today. That little high voice is catchy. Where are my earplugs?
-
Woke up this morning with this tune in my head. one of the best tracks on album, simple melodic his voice is great also. should be the next single with a video of Paul on guitar solo without bringing cinma stars doing nothing in a video! It can introduce Paul to new and fresh fans that can be curious and buy the album again.

Same here for me this morning. I had to run an errand last night and it was the last NEW track I heard on my car CD. I also think "Looking At Her" has a great bridge. And the bridge has great lyrics...the part where he says "the effect that she's having on me, part of the crowd etc." And Like someone else said...Paul's vocal is spot on. This is another track that has grown on me which is what is great about NEW. Not a clunker on the whole album including the bonus tracks.
