New in the Charts Thread

Not a bad idea, audi Made me remember Paul's music vid for "Say, Say Say" with Michael Jackson--Paul and Linda were traveling medicine men selling their wares in a Gypsy caravan or Old West wagon or something and Michael joined them--in this case he'd be hawking "New" with My Band and singing sans Michael.

Paul's NEW album debuts at # 3 on the World chart with 165.000 sales .
-
#11 on UK midweek chart, not as bad as i feared. pearl jam already down to #15
-
Just had a look at the other Billboard charts I could see on the web: #2 on Top Rock Albums #3 on Canadian Albums #6 on German Albums And on the Japanese singles chart, the song "New" jumps from #18 to #4.

Maybe it has legs after all . If there is any justice, Pauls Jools Holland appearances will help - it was oustanding - stole the show Maybe not all fans have bought all the copies they are going to. I've got the deluxe , but I have the vinyl on order ...
-
New was Top 5 in Croatia!!! New is good enough to be nominated for Grammy album or the year Would Queenie Eye have a chance of charting in the UK now the video is OUT? I ask this because the UK have given his recent singles around the top 20 which is still good

Not too surprising, since he's fallen into the 40s in iTunes. Beaten by Scotty, though: that hurts.

Some Net wag suggested Macca buy up tons of the New cds himself in order to make a good showing and get to no. 1, said he's got enough money to get the album to the top of the charts himself. Claimed Brian Epstein bought up 20,000 copies of "Love Me Do" for the Fabs, back then, to give them a big hit That was just a rumour going around back then. If Brian did that, the Fabs deserved that boost but I doubt that he did. Paul wouldn't do that, either.

Still #4 on Amazon, though, and ahead of most of the albums projected to outsell him. HitsDailyDouble's projections are usually pretty good, but they aren't infallible. Still, I think it will take another U.S. TV appearance to really sustain the momentum, and I've seen no sign of any more U.S. appearances.

I looked back at HitsDailyDouble's initial projection for MAF and they were sure it would be #1 (of course, it ended up at #3), so they aren't infallible, but iTunes is very important in music sales these days.

Beatles4Ever&Ever:
Sad that "NEW" sold only 67,000 copies in its first week...in the entire country! That's less than the number of people who show up in one city for a concert. And he sells out stadiums in numerous cities all over the country! Why don't those people, or some of them, buy his new music???? (I did my part. I bought SIX copies of "NEW", 1 at iTunes to have all the songs immediately, 1 at Amazon, 2 at FYE (for the cube), 1 at Best Buy for the photos and 1 at Target for the DVD! :

audi:
I was just thinking about all the McCartney albums, etc. that I've bought this year alone: NEW, the Wings Over America reissue, the Ram remaster, the Rockshow DVD. Paul has moved a LOT of units in 2013, despite the modest sales of NEW. Still, considering that he virtually tied with Miley Cyrus last week, he's more in-the-game than some of us think.
I guess so. (And there are the BBC units next month.) Although it seems "wrong" to have his name and Miley Cyrus' in the same sentence! But, yes, he's still in the game. Today, I'll be out looking for the new issue of Rolling Stone with him on the cover. Sometimes just having something like that in your hands as you walk around a shop piques other peoples' curiosity and interest. Who knows why or what it takes for people to decide to buy what they do? Couldn't hurt!

And just imagine how many of us bought extra copies. I bought two myself. Seems like, between the extremes, it could average out to two per fan, which means that only about 33,500 people bought the album the first week. Certainly a lot fewer than 67,000 people, anyway. I guess we've already gone through the reasons, but it's still rather remarkable, isn't it?
That it is!!!!

Paul has his first #1 album in Norway since Flowers in the Dirt.

Well, it must be his karma (?). He's got it like everybody else. Still, why behave like "New"will suddenly stop selling altogether as if there's a definite cut-off point--it's so good that it must have "legs" to be sure.
-
There's still the Vinyl release coming. This album has staying power, but face it, this is the season of the women. New records from Mariah Carey, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Britney etc. are all due out in the next two months. New is at #4 right now on amazon.com That is still respectable if you ask me!
-
Why wasn't "New" released at a time when it did not face such competition? Of course the Fall releases are the most eagerly awaited, it appears--but couldn't they have put it out another auspicious time as well, when all those "legendary" chick singers weren't putting out theirs? (But they couldn't be nearly as legendary as Macca, not to us)

The "Queenie Eye" video must have had some effect on the iTunes chart. The album had dropped to the 40s, but then began to hold steady, and now has inched back up to #38.
