New in the Charts Thread

If I was Paul's management, I would have advised he wait to launch the OUT THERE tour. Release the NEW cd in Oct. and at the same time announce the OUT THERE WORLD TOUR, starting in Japan in Nov., then the Brazil dates in Dec. then the USA dates in Feb and March of 2014, all coinciding with the Grammys and 50th anniversary. Then perhaps Australia and New Zealand in May, and Europe UK dates in July and Aug. Then return USA dates in Oct with Mexico thrown in. There! A World Tour to support NEW with momentum and excitement.

I'd like to see more radio-promotion: A new round of phone interviews with select stations -- to discuss the album, not how superifically awesome it was being a Beatle for the gazillionth time (with all-due respect).
-
re entered on Israel charts on number 12 http://www.musicaneto.com/best_sellings.asp?counter=1 like I said, this album has a long life, but the Grammy could not handle this for long time, Paul has to think on serious promotions of this album, especially a NEW tour
-
He should tour and do another national TV show (Ellen, Letterman, whatever) and sing something OTHER than New or Queenie Eye.

Yes, the most recent Billboard 200 reflects sales for the week that ended on the Sunday of the Grammys. All those Beatles albums were there because that same week was the one that the U.S. Albums box came out, as well as most of its individual albums. (I put those chart positions in another thread in the YESTERDAY section.) And the Beatles' 1 collection was there because of all the general Beatles hoopla. Tomorrow the new chart will be out and I fully expect "New" to make an appearance, for at least one week if not two or three, depending on what else Paul does. I would expect a smattering of Beatles titles over the next couple of weeks also. Perhaps Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road, even. (The latter title has a way of popping into the chart periodically anyway, like Thriller and The Dark Side Of The Moon.)
Sorry, I was thinking yesterday was Wednesday! Tomorrow (Thursday) the full new charts come out.

It seems that what happened was part of the OUT THERE tour was already announced before they decided to delay the album to re-do vocals, resulting in a major missed opportunity. Not sure, but I don't think he's ever toured the USA in February and March?too risky with winter weather, like we're having now! It's usually spring/summer for stadiums, and autumn for indoor arenas.

I agree. I was just thinking of the best way to promote NEW. If he tours in the spring/summer of 2014, NEW will get zero boost in sales.

Yes, I agree that touring, touring, touring will do it, plus a few TV appearances. I think the album would get more than a zero boost, but you're right, not as much as if the momentum kept going all this time.

Disappointing....Re-entry at 189 doesn't exactly bode well for a re-NEWed chartlife. Frustrating when you see that it's just the 14th week for New, and only 3 of them spent in the Top 40. cry

_____________________________________________ Yes this is very disappointing considering his appearance on the Grammys and all the publicity (tons of it) surrounding the 50th Anniversary of Ed Sullivan. I was hoping that he would reenter close to 100 or even better. Even though Paul has been in the US over the last 3 weeks, he can't really promote NEW in the middle of the Beatles 50th anniversary promotion. All the current TV stuff (especially on CBS) is focusing totally on the Anniversary and all the Beatles' music. He can only promote NEW with an upcoming tour and that is probably 60 days away at the earliest. NEW will be off the Charts during that timespan. The "timing" for the Marketing of NEW would make a great case study for a College Business Marketing Course. It could be titled...What Not to Do? Bruce is right in one of his earlier replies. You can't blame it all on the Rocord Company. Paul is at the center of all his projects and he obviously can do whatever he wants to do relative to appearances etc. Obviously, his biggest priority wasn't promoting NEW in the US. That said, he has to ttake the biggest share of the blame if you're looking at things strictly from a business point of view. I'm not knocking Paul here as no one else is in his shoes and he has the right to decide what he will and will not do relative to promoting a new album. I think Paul is at the point where he's not that concern about Album charts as long as it get out of the gate strong. He knows that eventually people who haven't bought NEW now will at some point coupled with future generations. That is how strong his legacy will be in my opinion. It's such a shame in my opinion because NEW is such a good CD and the sales should have done so much better. I believe they really missed a great opportunity in 2013 before all the Beatles hoopla regarding the 50th Anniversary. It is easy to play Monday Quarterback but it just seems that if he concentrated on getting the album done earlier (i.e. beginning of 2013) instead of touring so much in 2012, the "timing" would have been perfect. His "Out There" Tour would have been backed by a new album (even a specific song.. Everybody Out There) plus NEW would have been eligible for last month's Grammys. It would have been nominated for sure (maybe multiple nominatons) and who knows...maybe would have won. The sales of NEW would have been so much stronger because people going to the shows in 2013 would have been hearing the songs. Winning a NEW Album grammy would also have sparked even more sales as they did for last months winners. Well we'll just have to wait for the new tour announcements. At least as fans we might be able to hear a bunch of New songs later this year in Concert (pardon the pun).

Can't really add any more to what BJ said. Sums it up nicely!

Well this is interesting. "New" had dropped back off the Amazon.com U.S. top 100 albums, but inched back on Monday in the wake of the CBS Beatles special -- even though, of course, there was no direct promotion of the album. It got as high as #88 this morning and is presently at #96. That may not be enough to ensure a spot in the Billboard 200, but maybe. Oh, and needless to say, Beatles albums are all over the Amazon chart today.
-
To honest, I think most of Paul's new releases are going to sell roughly the same amount of units if measured on a yearly basis. Only the urgency of fans wanting to buy it 'right now' (or lack of immediate urgency) determines the chart performance With that said, I wonder if Paul only looks at it on a basis of how many units it sells over a given amount time vs how high it temporarily flashes up in the charts...after all, it's all the same in his wallet:-)
-
First of all, if you see major artists like Celine, Cher, Linkin Park, Metallica, Elton, Avril Lavigne etc, Paul´s NEW is on the same level of selling, without a big promotion of it. Paul came to TV shows very early, is not playing new songs, is not making tour, etc, but if you look in retrospect, he never promoted well a solo album. Played let it be on live aid, played beatles on live 8, did not make tour in eighties with big hits like No More Lonely Nights etc The album NEW can still sell a lot more if he goes out on tour, but even so, this may be a problem, because the album won´t be in any stores anymore. Too bad but it´s his fault.

No NEW in the new Billboard 200, but plenty of Beatles albums, and they should be even bigger next week. Based on Bruce's observation above, NEW could sneak in for a week in next week's chart, which will reflect the full impact of the CBS tribute special.

It does seem to have had a blip on the Amazon chart, but it only lasted about 24 hours -- maybe not enough to get back onto the Billboard 200. We'll see.

Grammy and Beatles 50th are gone, so Paul can come back to focus on NEW, TV shows, new single and, especially, a NEW tour.

He can try to give us everything we've ever wanted. We're not hard to please.

New is on 12 on Israel chart and 18 on Iceland chart. (source: ukmix) I really can't understand the reason that is making Paul leave behind such a great album
