Hmmm... not sure what chart you're looking at. I've checked several times today and it's been consistently at 39 or 40. But if that's a rough reflection of sales at other outlets (and acknowledging that Paul's digital sales are always going to lag behind artists appealing to a younger crowd), I think it's a safe bet for a reentry onto the Billboard chart next week, possibly above #100. The show was too late to help much with this week's chart, but next week Paul should be back. This appears to be more proof that when people hear the music, the album sells. But it will be just a brief blip without a tour or further TV gigs. I assume the Feb. 9 show will be strictly Beatles, but Hear Music should shell out a few bucks for an ad or two that night.

Maybe it's the Amazon Brazil chart? I can't confirm. Paul is still #42 on Amazon U.S. at the moment. #168 on iTunes; I forgot to check yesterday, but I'll bet it was higher. I think you're pretty much on target, Bruce. After February 9, though, I'm not sure how things are going to roll out, but we do know that Ringo will be touring; maybe Paul will let Ringo announce his own tour before Paul does? There's also that video game coming up that Paul wrote music for, so that will be its own announcement, plus the next Archive release(s) will probably be late spring. Then there's the question of a third single. "Queenie Eye" and "New" are both still being fairly vigorously promoted, but it seems he would want to have a new single to help promote the tour.

I saw that on a friend´s facebook who is a big fan and even wrote a biography of him. But I saw and it was on position 37. Like it was said, when people listen people buy. He has millions of fans, but he needs to promote the album, making tour and tv shows like Elen, Letterman etc. I think that the album has a long life if promoted

New is on position 39 on amazon. Great pos Grammy results. Can't wait to seeBillboard chart. But Paul has to take advantage of this and start touring It was great to see Paul Ringo Yoko Nancy Sean Barbara and Olivia
NEW is one of Best Buy's "Deals Of The Day" today ($9.99)
Either Alicia Keys is a very tall woman or both Olivia and Yoko are quite short. She towered over them....and kinda' stumbled on the Year "Double Fantasy" won for Best Album. :

Yes, very likely the album will be back in the charts. Certainly a third single could help sales...

Yes, and IMO it should be "I Can Bet". Irresistible hook!!!

I forgot that blunder. It was very awkward. I never really understood her being onstage with Olivia and Yoko in the first place, quite frankly. (I thought 'why is she part of this???') It was as if they thought someone needed to stand between the two ladies to act as a referee should one be needed...or because they might not be capable of reading the list of nominees and making the award....and then it was she who blew the whole damn thing!! :

It should have been Norah Jones (Ravi Shankar's daughter)!!

According to forum ukmix, who discuss Paul´s career and always get new certificates, Paul´s NEW became Gold on Poland. Without any promotion after all

Got to wonder if "New" would have been eligible for this year's Grammy's if it would have gotten nominations. It would have been interesting to see if sales would have helped if it would have received nominations in addition to McCartney playing "Queenie Eye" at the ceremony.

What measures the popularity of an artist is his shows and crowd. People spend lots of money on concerts but not buy records anymore. I think that Pàul has to come back touring. This is what sells records. People go to the show, listen and buy it. In next year NEW will be nominated. I will say it again: this album has a long life

Yes, I do think there's actually a pretty good chance of nominations next year, after this year's awards generated such good feelings toward him, and many things this year should continue that trend, especially if a "tour edition" of the album comes out. For now, it's still off the chart, but I'm sure it will make an appearance next week!

I can bet would be a no brainer for another single release. Honestly surprised that it wasn't the first single release off the album though. Although, that may be just me.

After the beginning of the 2nd half (Seattle ran the kickoff back for a TD) I got bored and checked the latest Billboard Top 200 Album list. I know I should get a life but what I love about this Board is that everyone here is similar to me. Wouldn't it be great if we could have a Paul Superbowl somewhere and we all could meet. Anyway, Paul's NEW is still not in the Top 200. Because this is the time of year that sales on new albums are low, there were many past Great, Great Albums on the List that normally wouldn't be there. Included in this group were about 10 Beatle Albums. Obviously, the FAB's 50th Anniversary has something to do with this. You also had many classic albums by other artists...Thriller, Tapestry, Moon, Eagles Greatest Hits, etc. While the above fact did make a little sense why NEW wasn't on the List, it does not justify it totally in my mind. I say that especially because how great NEW is. Not to be even in the Top 200 when it just came out in October is ridiculous. I'm not just giving my opinion about NEW, but I'm thinking about all the great reviews NEW had. I think the Marketing for NEW as a whole was terrible. Because I live in the US, I am speaking of this country only but it does have the biggest potential for sales so the poor US marketing is huge. It started out decently (before the album's release) with Paul's appearances on I Heart, Kimmel etc. but after the album came out and Paul went to England, it came to a mysterious total stop. I know Paul did Japan in November, but early December to Christmas were crucial times and nothing happened. I have stated before that I don't think the Charts (except for the 1st few weeks) is important to Paul. That being said, Paul's record company still did a very poor job in my opinion. This week we will see if Paul's Grammy coverage and all the press regarding the 50th Beatles' Anniverary helps NEW. Somehow, I don't think it will that much. Maybe we will crack the Top 200... at 175 or something like that. Just a shame for such a high quality work. The only way it will make a substantial releap onto the charts is if Paul announced a US tour this week or Feb 9 to coincide with the 50th Anniversay. Even if it announced, sales for NEW in my opinion will be gradual as each show is done. And that is if Paul does a substantial number of live songs from NEW (at least 4 but hopefully 6 or 8. We will see. I kow this is an upcoming tour I want to see. This is definitely a chance for us hardcore fans to hear a bunch of new songs for the first time. Sorry for the pun.
-
We'll know in a couple days how much the Grammys helped. Given the album's substantial jump on the Amazon chart, I think it's a safe bet that it will be back in the Billboard 200, at least briefly. But that will be it, unless there is further promotion. That said, you can't just blame the record company. I'm pretty sure they didn't tell Paul not to tour the U.S. or do more TV gigs after the album's release. He's a big boy. He knows he doesn't get much radio play anymore and that the only way people will know he has a new album is if he gets out and sells it. He does what he wants (hey, isn't that a line from the album's title song?)
-
Yes, the most recent Billboard 200 reflects sales for the week that ended on the Sunday of the Grammys. All those Beatles albums were there because that same week was the one that the U.S. Albums box came out, as well as most of its individual albums. (I put those chart positions in another thread in the YESTERDAY section.) And the Beatles' 1 collection was there because of all the general Beatles hoopla. Tomorrow the new chart will be out and I fully expect "New" to make an appearance, for at least one week if not two or three, depending on what else Paul does. I would expect a smattering of Beatles titles over the next couple of weeks also. Perhaps Sgt. Pepper and Abbey Road, even. (The latter title has a way of popping into the chart periodically anyway, like Thriller and The Dark Side Of The Moon.)
-
If I was Paul's management, I would have advised he wait to launch the OUT THERE tour. Release the NEW cd in Oct. and at the same time announce the OUT THERE WORLD TOUR, starting in Japan in Nov., then the Brazil dates in Dec. then the USA dates in Feb and March of 2014, all coinciding with the Grammys and 50th anniversary. Then perhaps Australia and New Zealand in May, and Europe UK dates in July and Aug. Then return USA dates in Oct with Mexico thrown in. There! A World Tour to support NEW with momentum and excitement.
