Regrettably, as much as I love Tug of War, Venus and Mars, Ram, Back to the Egg (not in that order, and all for varying reasons), the critics - and by extension time - will only judge one of Paul's post-Beatles album as a "classic". That will be Band on the Run. John will get Imagine in there. Maybe, the horribly titled debut. Which I do love. George perhaps "All Things Must Pass". And Wings Over America should go down as the classic of classic live albums.

No, the critics adore Tug Of War. The Sunday Times called it his 'Sergeant Pepper'. Where BOTR is concerned, many critics are like sheep (much like the public), so they will go on about BOTR because they think it is the right thing to do, basically repeating what others have said so they don't appear 'abnormal'.

"No, the critics adore Tug Of War. The Sunday Times called it his 'Sergeant Pepper'. " Exactly. RS magazine which many people here think hates Mr. McCartney gave it a rave review and said it was his best album since The Beatles.

I concur. A classic to me. I love it. In my top two or three Paul albums. I am merely putting myself on the other side of the fence... and it seems like the Beatles are judged pretty harshly when it comes to consigning any of their post-Beatles output as a "classic:" I am happy to rate it as such, and I know it garnered wonderful reviews, but I am suggesting that time will only defer predictably to "Band on the Run".... doesn't mean I agree with it. Tug of War is an absolute gem. Love everything about it. And yes, the title song is so underrated it is not funny. I think it is one of his best songs, period.

"Run Devil Run" and, especially, "New" are at least four-star albums. I would give "New" five stars. And "Driving Rain" is down there with "...Broad Street" as far as I'm concerned....very very average.
