Actually, it is. Every generation, kids discover new music that's different from their parents' generation's tastes, and adults roll their eyes and say, " I don't believe the crap these kids listen to nowadays!" So it was with Elvis, and the Beatles, and punk, and disco, and hip hop, and on and on and on and on...

Really? Kanye asking Paul "what p***y was like in the 60s" is like Elvis? Not it isn't. You're wrong. And Elvis changed music for everyone. So did the Beatles. This is not even close to doing that.

You're right that every generation has its own music. So it all comes down to taste, and what you like, etc. I like Paul and his music. That's my era. But I don't like hip hop in general, and really don't like Kanye West. It's just not a style of music that gets me, and I haven't heard much in the lyrics that makes me want to listen. So that's all I'm going on. Having Paul on a Kanye West song is not going to make me like him any better.

Please tell me that didn't actually occur. If it's true, I hope Macca's response was: "Well, lad, the same. ... Vaginas were fully evolved by the '60s."

RMartinez:
I wonder if folks here would truly like these songs if they didn't know Paul was involved?
That is a valid point. I am certain that I would not have liked them, listened to them, or cared in the least about them. I can't stand this kind of current commercial music.

I do appreciate what you're saying, Bruce, and I do wonder sometimes whether I'm just being narrow-minded, or hopelessly out of touch. On the other hand, I think some of these comparisons are unfair and ahistorical. We may not know for many years, but I strongly doubt whether Kanye's and Rhianna's legacy will be comparable to Elvis, or the Beatles, or Chuck Berry, or...(insert name here). I side with RMartinez on this one.

In these cases "this kind of current commercial. Music" are acoustic ballads.

Thanks Keith Rap music...I hate it. It's tossed off by tossers. You don't need any talent to play that crap. Any ten year old kid can come up with those lyrics. No class, man, No class at all, none of them. But they'll do us all a favour in the end, 'cause those dumb bastards keep killing each other. And you know what I say? Carry on, boys, carry on." - Keith Richards

I find this attitude unbelievably sad.
Agreed. I'm embarrassed all right, but for the posters making these ridiculous comments.

^^ Really a sad question. But anyway, I was hoping for more Fireman music. Or something like Bloody Beetroots. Alas, I will pass on this project.

The song is still up there on the iTunes chart, at #4 right now. Please note, all the people who say they hate rap, that neither of these new songs is rap. Also, to the people saying Rihanna and Kanye will never last, each one has had seven popular and mostly critically successful albums (including Kanye's album with Jay-Z) over about a decade. Ten years may not seem like a long time to those of us who are older, but Led Zeppelin was only around for about ten years, and the Beatles were around for less than eight as a recording unit. How many years, and how much critical acclaim does it take, for a musical artist to be deemed worthy? Yes, Kanye can be a nasty guy, but at least he hasn't bitten the heads off of live animals like Ozzy did. ; ) Ozzy also looked foolish on reality TV, but that doesn't change his reputation for some respected and influential work on his own and with Black Sabbath. Yes, I know, I have as much chance of convincing some of you that Rihanna and Kanye are worthy as I have of convincing my 83-year-old mother to like "Helter Skelter" or Led Zeppelin!

You say neither of these songs are rap...so what? People can NOT LIKE them for any reason. Why are you defending them so vigorously? Ozzy was a diff genre too & many don't care for Black Sabboth. So what?

If people just don't like the songs, that's fine, but certain people are saying "I hate rap" as the reason. Just pointing out that it's a nonsensical reason, and they clearly haven't even listened to the songs. People are free to not like Paul's Fireman stuff, or the Bloody Beetroots, or "Kisses On The Bottom" or whatever, but to say that Paul is destroying his reputation by doing these things is also nonsense. My question would be, Why are some people ATTACKING this stuff so vigorously? Clearly, a lot of people like these songs, so let us like them, and go listen to "Band On The Run" and forget that Paul ever did anything outside of a certain narrow stylistic range. I'm done making these arguments, though. But I will continue to mention chart updates and that kind of thing.

Rihanna's singing doesn't compare to so many other female singers, which should be obvious, to many ears. She's not that great a singer. I don't listen to Kanye's music. Paul's involvement does make me a little more inclined to listen.

well there ya go..."go listen to Band on the Run". : I just don't get this kind of thinking. Nor do I get the ONE person that said his career is over. That kind of crap belongs in the "comments" section of these articles. (I, personally, am sick to death of Band on the Run.) Those 2 specific people may be the cause of a lot of Paul's fans disliking their music.
