He didn't work hard enough on POP but even so there's some good stuff, I think.

I think so too. The title track, Keep Under Cover, The Other Me, Through Our Love, So Bad..in fact it's quite good. Think I'll go listen now!

Yep, still some fine offerings on that album. And, as I've said before, I still rate the songs with Michael Jackson.... And I know I am in the minority, but I like Tug of Peace. His voice in form. Would've deleted a couple of tracks (Hey, Hey definitely), beefed it up with another four, and it could have been quite a very, very good album. Not as good as its predecessor, but a better follow-up. I love Through our Love and Keep Under Cover.

I'd not heard 'Memory Almost Full' for ages so put it on yesterday but I still struggle to like most tracks.

I remember enjoying many of the numbers on Press To Play. It is often cited as a terrible album. I think Paul was struggling with the powerful changes in music that took place in the 80s and was trying to find his place. He was too old to be hip, but too young to be an oldies act.

Some 80's music sound effects and too many synthesizers and such hurt that album PTP--ugh And yet I sure listened enough to it during one phase--listened to it a lot--so it can't be all that bad Much is enjoyable

Perhaps. I just listened to Stranglehold and Footprints and found nothing overtly dated about the recordings, and the songs are quite good, I think.

That 80's sound and sound effect is something I seriouslydislike, makes Press to Play barely bareable to me. In fact, I don't think I've heard it more than once, and it gave me a headache that time lol. To a degree this is a problem also in Flowers in the Dirt. Some songs there I love (especially Put It There), but several others have that awful 80's feel to them.

To me Through Our Love is a classic example of Paul taking a good song and running it off the rails with overproduction. It's a nice little song, but gets so grandiose and overblown after about 1:38 that it almost literally makes me gag. This is one that just screams out for a stripped-down, unpretentious version. The released version is such a stereotypical sticky-sweet Paul love song that it edges into self-parody.

I can look past Press To Play's production; the songs are there. And besides, out of the ten songs released on the original album, only three feature the oft-cited '80s production that some complain about.

I don't get dissing Back To The Egg either. Then again, fans tend to not like swan-song era projects. Despite not being my favorite Wings album*, it's probably got the strongest songs of all the Wings albums. *[size=7]=London Town is my fave.

I think "Back to the Egg" is a great band album, there are some very nice playing on it. I remember I read an interview with Laurence Juber where he said that this album and the Egg tour was like finding their voice as a band, for this lineup, that next album might have been even better, but 1980... other things happened.

Not sure if I remember myself... I think 1980 maybe was the year a band called Japan or something released a record called "Marihuana". Featuring Paul McCartney? Only a guess.... I could be wrong though. ops:

Well, Bruce, I did feel compelled to listen to Through Our Love again and did check out the 1:38 mark... I still like it..... it's a relatively short song, doesn't get too far off stream. Mind you, I am sure that a lot of stripped down versions of songs at that time would be a lot better listening to now, without all the over-production of those times..... but, who in the early 80's was going to strip it down when it was all about layers of production and producers being "clever". .... the one song that, for me, which I feel is a little pretentious is "C'mon People".... I don't mind it, actually at times I like it, but it sits in the "try too hard" category for me. That's my equivalent of your issue with Through Our Love, I guess.

Well, to me "Through Our Love" is an orchestrated thing, it's a George Martin production, "C'Mon People" I feel is a more calculated attempt at making a crowd pleasing singalong, like a Hey Jude part II or something, it's a bit more bloated I think. I kind of enjoy both songs but I'd choose "Through Our Love" as my favorite of the two.
