Paul's New Album-- "New"-- CONFIRMED
-
Thanks, B.J. and Favorite Thing Have only heard the cd once (haven't heard the ending "Road" yet) so far and yet it's struck like a lightning bolt, gave enormous bursts of pleasure, real ear candy "Queenie Eye" "Save Us" "Early Days" and "New" really stood out initially--especially "Queenie Eye" (love those strong vigorous background "Heys!" that really get the heated blood going) seems extraordinary rite off the bat--can hear it's a striking definite "yes!" for a single, can hear why he put that out for a single "Early Days" WOW...he doesn't sound "frail" there to me...absolutely stunned by his line about turning pain to laughter so he didn't get crazed, go crazy--brilliant, so sensitive. Who can't relate to that. More later! Yearning to hear it over and over the whole thing but have to work rite now He digs down deep for some lyrics here but still rocks, and on the more laid back numbers, these really get to you too in a somewhat calmer, quieter way--the hints of sadness in some words and lines aren't quite sad enough to make you feel real bad (for Paul and humanity in general) and anyway it can "hurt so good" the way he does them. Even the sad bits. it all manages to cheer you up anyways. Comes across like literary sophisticated subtle free verse even when they rhyme, his lyrics here . You can tell he's more mature and thoughtful and deeper, as well he should be at this stage. Just some first impressions.

I love this album. I feel like it sort of picks up where "Electronic Arguments" left off, which is cool, because I love that album too. I am glad Paul continues to experiment and be current; it's part of what makes him so incredible. Too many older rock stars are just stuck in the past, like dinosaurs in a tar pit. Not Paul! My favorites on the album are Alligator, Appreciate and Out There but there is not a track I don't like. At first I didn't like Early Days, because Paul sounded so frail and it made me sad. But it is genius, only Paul has a right to sing that song and it feels very personal.
Did you see the video that a fan put together for Early Days? SO COOL!
I agree "Early Days" is brilliant. He mades his point, slightly tongue in cheek, that the four of them are the only ones who know what happened during this time period in their collective lives. Very light hearted rendition of this theme, yet strikes home some very strong points. A lesser man would have had some bitterness leaking through about all the untrue things that have been written and said about them for so many years, but he has none. The older voice in this song is perfect. I love it all the way through. Kudos, well done Sir Paul. Love the fan video, too.
Written about "them" and mainly about him. All I kept thinking of is how people opr magazine reviews always pit the 2 of them against eachother. Oh he was the experimental one, or he was this & he was that. Sir Paul was there & he knows what happened & is too much of a gentleman to say much. He even forgave Yoko. hahahaha...just joking!!!
I am so glad he wrote Early Days; the message needed to be said. Only Paul can keep a dignified silence on the matter and then speak his mind in an appropriate way, like expressing himself in a song. And the message is clear, without him attacking anyone directly in a rude way. Like I said I am glad he wrote it, he was there, he lived it; not those authors, wives, co-workers...he was there from the beginning and it annoys me that when Paul speaks the truth people question him or call him a "revisionist". So, I get why he says the line "they can't take it from me even if they try" (that line always makes me get emotional) because by down-playing his role in John's life/in the Beatles people are trying to take away his memories, but they are his memories with his best friend, who is now dead. It's actually quite sad, imo.

He's also saying in Early Days they also can't take away his song credits from him--he knows which ones he played the biggest part in composing. And how CAN they know exactly what happened each and every moment of the Beatles story. Only those four Fabs know. I loved "Alligator " too right from the get go, it's rousing, exhilarating--rocking out yet also with the subtle nuanced lines sprinkled here and there which really get to you "I Can Bet" is hotter than July too Really rocks you and thrills

"Everybody Out There" is far from just a rock anthem sing along for big gigs. Its lyrics are amazing, extraordinary The sound of it is too I'm gonna listen to Paul's new album "New" again right now I finally get to, hosanna!

Absolutely loving NEW! Have played it on a road trip and at work on headphones almost every day. Hard to pick a favorite; there are just too many great songs. After all the years of making music, Paul can still come up with gems like these and it just has me in awe. Hey, Everybody out there! Are you loving NEW, too?

After living with the album (the standard version) for a while now, my thoughts have started to gel... Being of, ahem, a certain age, I still tend to think of albums as having sides. I completely, totally, love "side 1" of New -- Save Us through the title track. It's as good as any side of any post-Beatle McCartney album, period. "Side 2" on the other hand, leaves me rather cold. I love Everybody Out There and like (not love) I Can Bet. The rest just doesn't do that much for me. I don't actively dislike it, I just don't have much desire to listen to that part of the album.
-
I've said this before, but I love the entire album!!
-
i see a 'Steve McManus' as bassist for 'on my way to work' and 'everybody out there' wonder if any relation to Declan McManus (Elvis Costello)

Now that the dust has settled and the album has been broken in, here are my new (no pun intended) thoughts. SAVE US Really rocks. Nicely done, Macca. ALLIGATOR Love it. Except the bridge. His vocals are abysmal. ON MY WAY TO WORK Very melancholy but I like it. QUEENIE EYE Eh. EARLY DAYS Maybe autotune isn't a bad idea.... It's necessary. NEW His vocals are also very bad. Eh. APPRECIATE Drug trip.... Or a trip down weird lane. EVERYBODY OUT THERE Love it!! HOSANNA It starts off nice, but.... What the hell? Vocals? I CAN BET Is this a Get Back rip off? LOOKING AT HER I actually like it. Not bad Paul. ROAD Epic. TURNED OUT Very George. GET ME OUT OF HERE Classic Paul! Love it!!!! SCARED Basic songwriting. Sounds like some of today's. Overall the album is solid but not memorable. I'd give it a B-

Paul's vocals are very good on "New" On the entire album.

Now that's creative promotion! Why can't they do that at a WWE event here in the U.S., or a monster truck rally?

MSN 2013 Music Year in Review hailed McCartney as rivaled only by "the Boss" Bruce Springsteen in filling arenas and stadiums on tour, in selling out huge concerts, but failed to even mention his new album "New"

I'm so happy that Paul is playing songs from NEW at the concert and soundcheck!!! It's such a great album. I wish we could hear some of the songs from the sound checks. It's rather spotty getting to even hear what songs were played. Was really excited to hear On My Way to Work... also heard that maybe Alligator was played out a sound check... that would be so cool. One of my Paul McCartney friends and I were talking and we don't understand why the NEW album isn't sold at the shows? I know many of the concerts I've gone to have CD's for sale. Just thinkin' that people who love Paul's music could get a chance to listen to one of his best albums when they get home from the show !! A nice review of Paul's Albany show... wish I could have gotten off work http://beatlesexaminer.podbean.com
